The roof rafters in my loft have been insulated with rockwool. It’s a purpose built 1950’s maisonette, I live on the upper level with access to the loft. The insulation looks in good order, but after reading up on condensation I was wondering 🤔 should I take the rockwool out and replace it with PIR? I’ve put my hand behind the rockwool and as yet there doesn’t seem to be any condensation. The depth of the rafters is 70cm. I’d have to replace insulation on a budget as I don’t have a few thousand pounds lying around.

@@nikkipoucher1450 there’s an argument for ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.’ If you don’t have a problem and you’re happy with the level of insulate then the best thing you can do is leave it. On the other hand if it’s a cold roof void which is vented then I would suggest taking down the insulation between the joists and rolling out some loft insulation over the ceiling joists.

@ good morning, Thankyou for replying so swiftly. I think I’m going to replace it with PIR, I’m having a ‘tidy up and get rid of stuff’ mood, I’ll do it on a remove and replace budget over a period of months, and reuse the soft insulation to over lay on the ceiling rafters. Many thanks again for your advice 😁⭐️
