And all because of the subsidies for growing corn and then having far more than you can do anything with, so they turn it into syrup and put it in pretty much anything and everything, and still they have too much left over, but it's cheap due to the high amount of subsidies, so they grow fat people because well for profit health care, one hand washes the other.
Congratulation , YOU have just become one of the few Americans that can digest "Balkan Humor". That's an incredible achievement !!! with Love from the region 😇
It is very interesting when in the last Monday, I saw an article about Japan is currently the only nation in the world that becomes rich and developed without its citizens being suffered from obesity. 😅😅😅
It's interestimg to me because as a Swiss person who's lived her whole life in Switzerland we have the highest Chocolate consumption per capita plus we love our cheese and bread. One would think we are all obese but we actually have the lowest obesity rate in Europe. Even though our diet might not seem the healthiest to other countries, there are lots regulations for our food and what's not allowed in it. For example, if our bread contained sugar like in the US, it can't be labeled as bread. And the other thing is of course our lifestyle. A good chunk of the population doesn't own cars and it's not abnormal to go hiking on weekends.
It's not just from movement, people. People never want to hear it, but research has shown time and time again that the main decisive factor in maintaining low body weight is continuous healthy nutrition. Forget diets. And by that I don't mean calorie intake. It's mostly about natural and unprocessed (or at least less processed) foods. Switzerland, like many other regions in the world, has high-quality products and untreated fresh produce, something that has become terrifyingly rare in the States. I had to stop my intense workout routine due to a health condition two years ago and I'm still skinny af. Yes, genetics may play a role, but it's "only" a regulating factor and at the end of the day, you can make your own healthy decisions. Outside of America, healthy eating can be very cheap and unprocessed fresh foods are widely available.
I am Hungarian living in Texas for 2 years now. I walk (!) daily (15k steps) plus do intense physical excersizing (spinning, weights, running) 6 times a week, and people around me consider my diet healthy because i cook most of meals. However, during these 2 years, i gained around 4kgs. It is a struggle here.
Let me simplify for all,I'm a transylvania as well,I'm don't have fat on my body, but I'm not skinny either according to the doctors at least, but there is a conception among the eldest generation that if you are not fat the neighbors or your relatives will think that you are poor and you don't have money to eat,it is like if you don't have a Ferrari or swimming pool you are poor, so it's cheaper to be be fat or to have a swimming pool to show other people that you are rich 😂
Merican bread isn't allowed here in the EU. They use banned additives. There are Merican style bread called toast bread. It often has a USA flag like symbol on the packaging. It is just a sliced loaf of white bread, though, not full of corn syrup.
@@MicukoFelton There is, at least in Czechia I buy it regulary bcs sandwiches ofc. But if you look at the ingerdients, there is like 1/3 of crap they put in most bread in USA, its mostly wheat, some fat and bit more sugar than usual, like 2-3 grams per 100g. US food industry is indeed disgusting.
The point about sugar tax is not that they want to create more tax revenue but to force the producers to make products with less sugar content so they don't have to pay that high tax. One can debate whether a legal limit on sugar content might be better, but that's how the system works these days.
People often complain about any tax as being "the government" is taking your money. This is on the face of it true, but it's not as if "the government" is going to use that tax take to go on a lovely overseas holiday. Tax money is spent on carrying out government policies which, unless they are irresponsible are usually for the good of the tax payer. If there was no taxation there would be virtually no schools, no police or justice system, no healthcare system ( in developed countries) etc. Just a thought.
Tax on sugar helps to reduce obesity thus reducing the strain on the publicly supported health system. Much like high taxes on nicotine products to discourage smoking to reduce cases of lung cancer (and related cancers) thus reducing the strain on health care.
@@chriscohlmeyer4735 I slightly disagree with you, but I'm writing that from a German perspective, so things might be different in your country. The "strain on health care" is a phrase I can't hear anymore. The real, and most important, strain on health care, in my country, was the privatization of hospitals, and the reduction of hospitals to maximize the private "investors'" profit. It was a governmental decision that put the real "strain on healthcare". In my opinion, some things should never have been privatized but funded by tax money, for the common good. Next, high taxes on nicotine products won't keep me, as a longtime smoker, from smoking. Just leaves me less money in my purse to buy other things, and now supermarkets complain that people buy less and less, well, I'll tell you why: Because people prefer spending money on things they enjoy. Finally, I hate the word "discourage", and despite scientific proof that smoking CAN cause lung cancer, there are many other reasons, too, like workplaces where you inhale a lot of dust every day, or are exposed to poisonous exhaust fumes. And among the people I knew, there were many smokers, but they all died from other sorts of cancer like stomach or liver cancer. So, how come? In my opinion, smoking is a minor risk compared to the food additives we all eat every day, and THAT would be worth a thorough investigation.
I'd rather ask: "WHY oh WHY do Americans feel the need to systematically corrupt the TRUE TASTE of food?" Why such a crave for hyper-sugary or hyper-hot??? What do they find wrong with the real taste of food ingredients?
@@micade2518 The corn lobby in USA ensures corn farmers get paid a lot. There's nothing to do with so much corn, so it is turned into corn syrup, which is used as filler in food to make people addicted.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but in the UK and Europe (and most of the developed world) the government funds the health service so it's in their own interest to improve the health of their population. In the US there is no incentive to improve health since there's money to be made either way (make money selling unhealthy food then make money from the health problems it causes).
@@Lisa-xn9xc In the UK we have "National Insurance" deducted from wages as part of our taxes automatically "pay as you earn" (PAYE). That is supposedly ring fenced for the NHS but I doubt if it actually works that way. In any event it's basically all taxes that the government gets it's sticky fingers on and is reluctant to give back when it could be better spent on pay rises for members of parliament.
Mate, I live in the US and spent a month in Greece and the UK. Despite eating and drinking MORE while on vacation there, I lost nearly 30lbs. Yes, we did a bit more walking than I do in the states but honestly I think the foods available really made a difference since I didnt feel as sluggish after meals so was able to do more walking and exploring without feeling exhausted.
It's not about how many people are obese in the US, it's more about the extremes. The fattest 5% of Americans are on a level most Europeans have never seen in their lives.
Well Nauru is small island nation and not getting any fish is only part of the problem. Soil at the island is contaminated becouse of few American mining companies spoiled it. So they cant farm any of them food there either. All the goods are imported mostly from US and is mostly ultra processed crap whit tons of carbs without nutrition. There is couple good documentries about Nauru that everyone should check out.
Apart from the quality & size of foods, there is also one MAJOR factor : Timing. In most EU countries, we have 3 daily milestones : Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Basically : 07.00 am Breakfast 12.00 am Lunch 08.00 pm Dinner "Most" of europeans DON'T SNACK in between these milestones. They also don't rush their meals just to be fed and they take the meal as an opportunity to enjoy & relax. Btw, generally, poeple do like cooking and it makes a total different approach regarding relationship to what a proper meal is.
The dramatic thing is that the USA are exporting their "food culture" all over the world ... that see their obesity rate increasing alarmingly ... Thanks a million, guys!

It's funny how I've heard a couple of these arguments un-ironically. The "your not fat because your food sucks" from a friend visiting the UK, which was mostly because there was too much mayo. And that our "sodas" have been ruined as they've been reformulated because of the Sugar Tax. I was surprised to see the Sugar Tax has apartly had an effect, preventing more than 5000 cases of obesity, reducing sugar intake by 5g per 100ml and reports of children having less rotted teeth.
Jamie Oliver was behind the sugar tax in the UK and it has worked! He was upset with the high levels over obesity from people eating brown foods and drinking sugary drinks and flavoured milk in schools, so he did something about it. Search for his Food Revolution videos.
It's the car-orientated society that is the main reason! Americans will not walk 10 minutes to the local store, they will drive. Then you have all the drive-through restaurants. A country that doesn't walk gets obese. This is why Europe is not as obese, we walk tons! I wouldn't be surprised if the lowest obesity was in NYC, as they walk more too!
There also aren't any local stores to walk to. Their zoning regulations make it illegal to have small supermarkets in the suburbs. I honestly believe that throwing out the zoning regulations would fix a ton of issue in a few years time. I'm sure a lot of people would rather walk 5 minutes to a local supermarket then drive 15 to their nearest megastore.
Hello; Turkish citizen here. In Turkey almost every city and region are extremely walkable, and people DO walk, a ton. Yet we are the most obese population in European continent. Walking helps for sure, but the main culprit in US and in countries like mine is processed food, unregulated food additives, overconsumption of sugar, and many of these things are also related with the income and prosperity/buying power. Culture and characteristics of cuisine also play a role too. Although we do walk a ton, we are not a sporty nation. There is not much enthusiasm to pursue sportive activities. It's not in our culture. On top of that our home cooked food also contains a lot of carbs in forms of flour, various types of grains such as rice, bulgur, etc. For poor people who has to grind day to day just to get by from paycheck to paycheck, coming home tired and beat the easiest nutrition is to whip up cheap pasta, or potatoes and eat that with bread as well to get full. All kinds of meat, and even many of the produce also became extremely expensive for most households, so we are stuffing our faces with carbs on top of bread. Food with lack of proper nutrients, proteins, right type of healthy fat content, and lots of sugar and shit soda products will get you fat fast. We essentially became a nation sharing very similar diets with Americans, resulting in sharing similar rankings in "obesity race" (in the sense a race you wouldn't want to win but here we are...)
I had an American friend visiting here in Greece 2 weeks ago. 2 things he pointed out a lot was the comparison between Greece and USA when it comes to obesity, and the other is how much better our food has been and how many tastes were combined in a singe dish. So, about American food being tastier....I would say it depends on which country are you going to compete with. No offence to UK but they have never been known amongst Europeans as the chefs of the continent. (Hetalia fans know what I am talking about)
But the French can keep the slugs and toads they eat. Nobody else in Europe eats that stuff. They invented the Michelin star rating and declared themselves the winners. Suspicious? All they do is oversaturate everything in garlic. And as for the Italians all they've got is pizza and pasta. I mean, pasta, it's just hardened flour. And pizza is bread with some veggies on top. Veggies on toast. Talk about lazy.

When sugar tax was introduced in the UK it was the excuse for so many companies to put artificial sweetener into products instead, at a fraction of the cost of sugar and they put the prices up, what they do is state on the label sugar free when it is entirely made with artificial sweetener but don't mention they have cut out a percentage of the sugar in the normal product and replaced it with sweetener. What the US Government allowed to happen in the Marshall Islands was disgraceful.
An Irish franchisee of the US SUBWAY company had claimed it should not pay VAT on the rolls it uses in heated sandwiches. But the court ruled that because of the level of sugar in the rolls they cannot be taxed as bread, which is classed as a "staple product" with zero VAT. Subway sandwiches the sugar content is around 10% of the flour in the dough for both white and wholegrain rolls. Following the ruling, the rolls are subject to tax at 13.5%.
UK and Turkey have so many US fast food chains. Im turkish and grew up next to Mcdonalds and starbucks and also the cheapest in the world! ( Starbucks ) Im guessing Mc Donalds is one of the cheapest too. Its a less educated country with big population US companies can easily exploit and they do.
One of the reasons for obesity in certain areas is infrastructure. If you need a car to get anywhere you are basically getting no natural exercise and the US and these island nations are fully car dependent hell holes (as said in the words of Not just Bikes who has a video on infrastructure on these pacific islands)
According to that theory Montana would have to be the most obese state in the U.S. My theory is it is the constant hustling that is required in the U.S. and which gets even worse when you are poor. It results in stress and unhealthy sleep rhythms which raises the cortisol level and leads to obesity no matter if you eat much or just normal. Get a better social security going that lowers the existential anxiety that everyone in the U.S. who earns less than 200$ per year has to endure, and obesity will vanish, too.
When I was young in the 1960s there was a Dutch childrens song that (translated) went something like: you can recognise a Dutch American for afar, because his belly looks like a balloon. 😀 There are lots of Dutch emigrants to the USA that went there just after WW2 and came back to visit family in the 60s... I guess that's when the song started. Even then the difference between them and the people who stayed was apparent.
The link between being poor and lower education is also something to think about. And higher addiction rates in poor people. So there is trauma involved most of the time and to be able to choose health over short-term suppresion of emotions is a hard one, aspecially when you deal with trauma. So it's not always just a mindset. I know from experience. After 30 years of being on diets and it not working because my cravings being too great because of emtions. Now my nervous system has calmed down. I've got a great therapist, and now I CHOOSE to exercise and eat healthy. But especially poor people don't have oppertunities or get the help they need to change. And it becomes a generational thing. So eating/being healthy is not as easy as "just eat a cucumber instead of potato chips"
Hey Ryan..... So you're suggesting that bored people eat more than busy people. The idea is not wrong, but again, it depends on the ingredients. The foods that are as extremely highly processed as yours are less filling. So beyond bored or not... I'm sure you've often heard Americans wonder why portions are so small in Europe? It's because we get full much faster from less food because it contains more wholesome ingredients. The body's metabolism reacts differently depending on the ingredients. The feeling of fullness occurs more quickly and the body has its own “body chemistry”, which means that it can also produce its own sugar if you give it something sugar-free. I want to say yes - bored people often eat out of boredom. But even then it depends on WHAT they eat. And this is mainly highly processed food with lots of fat and sugar, but with far too little fiber, protein and the “good” fats. Yes, there are good and bad fats. You can google that if you like. And now guess, which are the pricy ones and which the expensive ones.... The US mostly produces stuff with the bad ones because they are cheap to get, so the sales profit will be way higher. There is a reason why lots of ingredients are banned in the EU!
Less than 10 minutes of walking a week is insane. This fact alone will guarantee these people to die 20 years early at least. I cant believe how stupid people have to be to drive a car to a place you can walk in 15 minutes.
@@LeChuck1717 The problem is often, in the US, that although a place might be only a km or so away, it is often physically impossible to walk to it safely, as it woukd involve crossing a 6 or 8 lane highway with no controlled crossing point or even pedestrian refuges, then walking alongside said super-highway actually ON IT, as it probably has no pedestrian walkway, and possibly then needing to clamber up roadside embankments to get to your destination...
@Sine-gl9ly It would help if Murkins could actually scrape a few brain cells together and vote for people who will remedy the situation. But no, they keep on voting against their own interests, to the astonishment of the more intelligently run countries.
There‘s a causuality between income of the households and education.. and I just read a publication of the german institute for political education about the existing correlation between levels of education and obesity.. so, no wonder that the poorer states in the south are the fattest as well..
It makes perfect 12:20 msg added to Chinese and Japanese food may have the same effect, but Chinese and Japanese food is much healthier than food in the USA, a lot of Chinese and Japanese food is steamed not drenched in fat.
I'm always amazed, when watching programmes about US obese people losing weight, how they fry EVERYTHING. Don't you have grills/broilers in your cookers?
This is not completely true. Japanese and Chinese people love their deep fried food, stir fries, and woks, all of which involve liberal amounts of fat at high temperature. The difference is that they use either peanut oil or beef tallow. US federal authorities recommend using soy bean oil instead, or other vegetable oils. Take this as you will.

I seem to have seen quite a few of your countrymen who have visited Europe and subsequently found that the food in Europe tastes much better than that in America. I doubt you can convince any European that the obesity epidemic in the US is due to the tasty food you have. You get fat from eating garbage. All your legislation is there to protect your industry and the result can be read in the health of the population. It is actually relatively simple.
idk why you guys are so hostile about everything, it's taxing to read through, tbh Anyways, there's always a "grass is always greener" effect, people interested in visiting other places will probably find things they like there, or else why are they choosing that place? There are plenty of videos if you weren't so lazy if you want to see people from either side finding lots to like on either side. Also some people try to be happier. gl with that
@@jantimmerby A lot of the comments in general have been having a feel like that, so maybe I'm reading it wrong because of that. But I got that vibe from generally denying America has any good food, saying "you get fat from eating garbage", and ending with saying it's simple (which can sound condescending/insulting) It's not all fast food and junk food though, if that wasn't clear. You do have to watch the ingredients labels more closely though, and not everyone knows what they're looking for or has the patience to. Honestly it's to the point I've thought about making an app to scan the barcode and have it just pop up warnings for relevant things, for convenience
@@Aeroxima There are far more additives in food in the US than in Europe. There are also more hormones in meat in the US than in Europe. That seems to be a fact. Of course you can get organic food etc. in the US, but how many people have access to it financially? The US laws put the producers' profits above the health of the population and this has consequences for people, such as obesity, blood clots etc. Look at the statistics on public health and average life expectancy in the US and other countries. The differences you will see are not random, but are rooted in something. What do you think the differences are due to? Sorry if you perceive my tone as negative, that is not my intention. But I think it seems pretty obvious that there is something fundamentally wrong with your legislation. And a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones 🙂
"the government just wants to make money" Kinda, but the way the government makes the most money is by having a healthy society that is working. The way to maintain this healthy society is to make sure healthy foods are cheaper than unhealthy foods Not only is it saving money by keeping people working, it's saving money by keeping people from needing medical services as much which saves the government a ton of money since we have social security The reason I said kinda at the start and not yes is because not really. The collective of the government wants the country to run. Individuals in the government have their personal goals, and the government having more funds makes reaching those goals more possible, but it's not like ministers are getting paid in dividends by the government So everyone in the government for sure wants it to make more money, but for a purpose. If the green party had full control for a while for example, they would tax the shit out of fossil fuels, to make money yes, but so that they can invest that money into projects they care about Will there be individuals that only care about their own personal lives in there? Yes of course they'll exist. Those people do not benefit from the government profiting, those people are either indifferent, or they benefit from bribes. Bribes like that come from big companies trying to pay less taxes or gain other advantages, no one is bribing on behalf of the government for it to get profits I do think in America making money in the government could be a larger deal, but that's because inflation, the deficit and other financial topics are among at least the top 3 issues for American voters, so you need to show good numbers, as well as the American government is maintaining the most expensive military in the world
«the government wants to make money» No, that’s wrong. What they want is to keep people out of hospitals. Free healthcare you know, no one wants to pay for things that could easily be avoided. This the single reason for everything that is better in the rest of the world, we can’t afford you taking stupid risks and ending up a vegetable.
Although i agree with some of the video I think the UK also has to work on their diet for similar reasons. Leaving the EU with its food regulations, over time MIGHT lead to standards slipping back.. Happy holidays to everyone by the way!! 🌲🎉
The biggest problem when it comes to weight is mostly that people eat way more calories in a day than they burn off. As a woman you need about 2000 cal per day. If you’re working you probably burn it off but if you don’t work you don’t need 2000 cal so whatever you haven’t burned during the day transform into fat. And of course you need to think about what you eat as well. You can pretty much eat what you want but with consideration.
Not Bri'ish or a fan of Bri'ish cuisine in general, but I binged that shit like a maniac when I was younger. It tastes even better when you add some sweet corn to the beans. Much better than most of the fast food I've had in my life.
@ Not gonna lie, I’m Irish so we have due to proximity a lot of the same sort of food. Some, yes, not for everyone but some I would sell my family for. So, a Christmas pudding, I have 3 already done for next year as they need to mature and deepen in flavour. Then you have a steak and Guinness pie, more Irish than UK as they use ale but it’s just not as deep in flavour. Suet pastry, sooooooooo bad for you but oooooooooh so good. I would sell my soul to the devil for it. Beef Wellington…I claim this as the Duke of Wellington was born in Dublin even if he denied his roots. So So So damn good. Trifle, in Ireland or the UK who doesn’t like a good trifle…to be fair my lovely mother wouldn’t use sherry…it didn’t have the “kick”. Our kick was good brandy. Sticky toffee pud, a winter staple in most Irish houses that I grew up around. Jams, Crab Apple Jelly, frachan jam. All of that. It’s not the same as you’re used to that’s all. But not bad and when done well is ribsticker gorgeous!

MSG still gets a lot of sh*t, but the fact is that it's a natural salt that is in many commonly used products, such as Mushrooms and Tomatoes, and I think (could be wrong) lots of seafood like Schrimps/Prawns, Crabs etc
Well, quantity is not the only problem. It is the combination of products, the time of the day, the number of hours between meals,.... it is quite a complex. Autophagy can only happen starting 6 hours after the last meal....
Not necessarily, some foods are easier to digest than others. So while you could lose weight while having a lower caloric intake, your body could be getting the extra energy he needs from your muscles instead, so you will be in worse shape than eating the same amount of food/calories but with healthier meals
If you are eating really healty food, you won't get fat no matter how much you eat. For example salad without sauce will fill your up without getting much calories, so you could eat salad as much as you want without getting fat.
The first time I was in the US (also Indiana, by the way), I noticed that there was a mall across the road from the hotel in which we stayed. So after returning from a day at the office, I thought I could have a look before we would go for dinner. I wandered over to the traffic lights, expecting a pedestrian crossing... nope. Ok, strange... somewhere else? Nope, there was simply no single way for a pedestrian to get to the mall, unless I would go jaywalking (which I considered, but I recalled that it is actually a thing in the US... not so much in the Netherlands). I would need to get into a car and drive there... which would take me longer than just go there by foot. It blew my mind and still got me confused to this day.
Ok, the quality of the food is important. But as Ryan said, the amount of food you put in, and the activity level. I eat to live, I don't live to eat. I never eat til I'm "full". I eat until I'm not hungry anymore, and there is no danger in feeling hungry sometimes. ;) Just watch that you get enough protein, fat and the rigth kind of carbs. And eat what you need, not what you want. :)
9:32 Another thing to consider (and maybe I am totally wrong about this, since I don't know that much about those areas given that I am not american) is that in poor areas in which people traditionally or historically worked in agriculture and other physically demanding jobs, people tend to eat more food and more caloric food for obvious reasons (you need more energy to sustain yourself in that line of work), but if technology improves over time and less people do those jobs (because there are less jobs), and the people who still do them use machines and do less physical labor than before, there might be a mismatch between their current situation and their eating culture (they don't need as much caloric food anymore). And if you are used to eating high quantities of caloric or fatty food and now you don't have a lot of money, then you'll buy cheaper food to mantain your eating habits. And cheaper food is unhealthy. That eating culture is pass down from parents to children. I think that might be a factor because at least in europe that is a thing. People from the countryside whose parents and grandparents worked in the fields and raised animals for consumption, tend to eat more food and more caloric or fatty foods, because that is their traditional way of eating. That is what their family used to eat to be able to mantain their energy working those types of jobs. In europe that doesn't create a big problem with obesity because you can get very high quality food of that sort for cheap (allthough it is getting a little harder now).
Beans on toast is a pretty healthy meal if you make your own baked beans (thus avoiding the insane amount of sugar Heinz and other corporations use) and bread. Both are ridiculously easy to make, much healthier, and much CHEAPER.
American food only tastes like it does because of chemicals added to it. With GM food and yellow this and red that, there is nothing genuine about American food. I've known Americans come to the UK, eat some great food in generous quantities, and they actually lost weight. British food has much less crap added. We like this because we like our food to taste the way it's supposed to. Bread should never taste like cake.
9:39 yesn't. There are rat studies where rats ate the *exact same* amount and calories of food, just different types of fat. Beef fat vs different seed oils. The result is, JUST depending on the type of food, exact same amount and calories, the largest rats gained 56% more weight than the leanest group (beef fat only).
People who are more bored than other people, just because they live in the sticks! There are plenty of people in UK live in the middle of nowhere but actually go walking and enjoy the nature. Never ending excuses for being greedy and fat.

@@stannumowl Me neither (until I got it), Yeah, the treatment is exactly the same as type 1 but I also have to take Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Treatment (just more pills) as the pancreas also produces other digestive enzymes.
I highly doubt that the unhealthy food is the cheapest option. In the video was a bowl of frosted flakes for $1.90 - would oat flakes really be more expensive? Ryan said bananas are pretty cheap over there. 1-2 bananas, oat flakes, milk - that's a healthy breakfast and I guess it's cheaper than the frosted flakes. Even if you skip the bananas and just add some sugar yourself it's still healthier than frosted flakes.
12:04 The good ol' MSG debate. Italian food - tomatoes, anchovis, cheese, dried meats - is chock-full of MSG. The same for Portuguese and American cuisine and so on. MSG occurs _naturally_ in lots of foods. People embarrass themselves by claiming to suffer from an "MSG intolerance" while stuffing themselves with pizza, beef jerky and what not. Look into the history of the MSG hysteria and you'll see that it has its roots in the racial discrimination of Chinese immigrants, especially those owning successful businesses, in California. MSG isn't harmful, people. Get over it.
Salt is not the enemy. It's the sedentary life and cheap, nasty food. Without salt we are dead within a week or so. I don't like sweet, I was always eating a lot more savory meals as a kid, including breakfast - more feta and meat pies, more cheese, gyro, home cooked meals (Greek here).. I probably drink no more than 2-3 liters of soda a year but I enjoy my daily beer or two. I don't even try to stay fit. It all comes down to quality food, which the body can digest properly. Do our tomatoes taste amazing? Probably not.. Italians, don't pretend yours do. All supermarket veggies are kinda meh, but are many many times better than those I've eaten in the US - even those in the "green stores" are not even close to those my grandmother used to grow in her garden... the sweetness of such tomato needs a lot of salt to balance itself.
Bananas are one of the least healthy fruit- really high in sugars.. So kind of proving the point on least healthy stuff being more affordable. To be fair bananas are generally one of the cheapest fruit in Europe as well. Apples might beat them during local season

Americans weren’t massively obese before corn syrup was put into loads of food.
Check a graph of corn syrup, compared to obesity - they track.
And all because of the subsidies for growing corn and then having far more than you can do anything with, so they turn it into syrup and put it in pretty much anything and everything, and still they have too much left over, but it's cheap due to the high amount of subsidies, so they grow fat people because well for profit health care, one hand washes the other.
probably true, but still coralation does not equal causation. Always good to keep out an eye for the other processesd foods. ;)

Exactly. No weird theories needed. Stop eating sugar sprinkled with sugar. Start walking more.
Therefore they told the people fat is bad. So everything was low fat. And to make this low fat food tastier they ad a lot of corn syrup.

When I was 18, 19, I had a Swiss gf. She almost had anxiety from how flat it is here... walking uphill all the time probably helps too. :-P
It's from running up and down the mountains all day.😎
It's not just from movement, people.
I walk (!) daily (15k steps) plus do intense physical excersizing (spinning, weights, running) 6 times a week, and people around me consider my diet healthy because i cook most of meals. in Europe, American bread is sold in cake section.
Because in America 🍞 is effectively a cake with the sugar content in it.
Merican bread isn't allowed here in the EU. They use banned additives. There are Merican style bread called toast bread. It often has a USA flag like symbol on the packaging. It is just a sliced loaf of white bread, though, not full of corn syrup.
I've never see American bread here.

High fructose corn syrup is one of the main reasons for US obesity statistics plus the huge soda with sugar/artificial sweeteners.

In Germany the government doesn't directly fund it, we have a mandatory health insurance for almost everyone.

Apart from the quality & size of foods, there is also one MAJOR factor : Timing.
In most EU countries, we have 3 daily milestones : Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Basically :
07.00 am Breakfast
12.00 am Lunch
08.00 pm Dinner
"Most" of europeans DON'T SNACK in between these milestones.
They also don't rush their meals just to be fed and they take the meal as an opportunity to enjoy & relax.
Btw, generally, poeple do like cooking and it makes a total different approach regarding relationship to what a proper meal is.
Plus our food in Europe doesn't have additives and preservatives.
Everything we eat is natural.
Usually I eat closer to 5 times a day but in smaller portions. It is nice
But Brits also have tea time, elevensies, etc etc. lol. The things we do eat between meals are lighter things. Like fruit or soup.

Suspicious? UK and Turkey have so many US fast food chains. Im turkish and grew up next to Mcdonalds and starbucks and also the cheapest in the world! ( Starbucks ) Im guessing Mc Donalds is one of the cheapest too. Its a less educated country with big population US companies can easily exploit and they do.
They do the same in Mexico and Brasil. Only one word: Coca Cola
British love McDonalds. If it weren't for tourists they would close here in Prague. Same with KFC.
One of the reasons for obesity in certain areas is infrastructure. If you need a car to get anywhere you are basically getting no natural exercise and the US and these island nations are fully car dependent hell holes (as said in the words of Not just Bikes who has a video on infrastructure on these pacific islands)
Another “ no excuse” They have legs to go for walks don’t they!

"the government just wants to make money"
Kinda, but the way the government makes the most money is by having a healthy society that is working. The way to maintain this healthy society is to make sure healthy foods are cheaper than unhealthy foods
Not only is it saving money by keeping people working, it's saving money by keeping people from needing medical services as much which saves the government a ton of money since we have social security
The reason I said kinda at the start and not yes is because not really. The collective of the government wants the country to run. Individuals in the government have their personal goals, and the government having more funds makes reaching those goals more possible, but it's not like ministers are getting paid in dividends by the government
So everyone in the government for sure wants it to make more money, but for a purpose. If the green party had full control for a while for example, they would tax the shit out of fossil fuels, to make money yes, but so that they can invest that money into projects they care about
Will there be individuals that only care about their own personal lives in there? Yes of course they'll exist. Those people do not benefit from the government profiting, those people are either indifferent, or they benefit from bribes. Bribes like that come from big companies trying to pay less taxes or gain other advantages, no one is bribing on behalf of the government for it to get profits
I do think in America making money in the government could be a larger deal, but that's because inflation, the deficit and other financial topics are among at least the top 3 issues for American voters, so you need to show good numbers, as well as the American government is maintaining the most expensive military in the world
ANY unhealthy food should SIMPLY be BANNED, as it happens in Russia.
«the government wants to make money»

The biggest problem when it comes to weight is mostly that people eat way more calories in a day than they burn off.
As a woman you need about 2000 cal per day. If you’re working you probably burn it off but if you don’t work you don’t need 2000 cal so whatever you haven’t burned during the day transform into fat.
And of course you need to think about what you eat as well. You can pretty much eat what you want but with consideration.

But not bad and when done well is ribsticker gorgeous!
@@tomwalsh2244 Sounds delicious! I live in Austria, where we have lots of Irish bars, but not much Irish culture going on. I hope to visit Ireland one day. Idk why I imagine Irish food to be more tasty than the British cuisines despite them sharing some similarities, lol. Probably because I like the flavorful dishes I've eaten in my local Irish bars (which I suspect aren't entirely authentic), lol.
@@SatieSatie Come over! It’s only a short hop! Europe is our garden and our pals. And we all like to make new pals! I was in Vienna in September and now have plans to return. Aren’t we so lucky in this fabulous continent! I LOVE IT!
MSG still gets a lot of sh*t, but the fact is that it's a natural salt that is in many commonly used products, such as Mushrooms and Tomatoes, and I think (could be wrong) lots of seafood like Schrimps/Prawns, Crabs etc
A perfectly good meal
USA people: Hell not, need bacon, artificial cheese, cream, Butter, Sugar and a Lot of Salt 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
If you are eating really healty food, you won't get fat no matter how much you eat. For example salad without sauce will fill your up without getting much calories, so you could eat salad as much as you want without getting fat.
What do you mean, beans are amazing! 😍
Beans on toast is full of fibre.
I never buy salt, sugar or carbonated drinks.
Neither do I, I couldn't get over how much of it they drink in the USA when I lived there!
I cant even imagine how it must feel to not know how food taste like 😢
Ok, the quality of the food is important.
Merry xmas ( God Jul ) @Ryan Wuzer and the rest of the world
Sugar Tax money is used for healthcare
I love your videos Ryan
Happy Christmas
In Hungary we have high taxes on sugary and salty food for the protection of health, or encouraging to choose healthy food over not healthy.
What "many inventions" have they made in the US.?
Beans on toast is a pretty healthy meal if you make your own baked beans (thus avoiding the insane amount of sugar Heinz and other corporations use) and bread. Both are ridiculously easy to make, much healthier, and much CHEAPER.
Trump ? Energetic???? Where ? When ? Trump does have the energy of a snail
AND the brain of one to match!
Happy Holidays Ryan
Japanese and other Asians have been shown to have genes which affect insulin metabolism, causing secretion of lower levels of insulin, and Adipose issue insulin resistance. so this impacts the type of diet and muscle mass and obesity rates and also risk of diabetes
What's crazy is that you guys hve SO MUCH SPACE and could actually have insane cycling paths but won't do that (ok, having to mandatorily wear a helmet to go on a bicycle also makes it really unappealing probably).
Merry Christmas
Christmas is Dec 25th, not 24th
@@LMB222 And guess what jessuss was not born in desember either but in march or about that time!
Many around the world do actually have their christmas celebration on des24th!
The christmas celebration was put on a pagan celebration called JOL here in Scandinavia and was a celebration for ODIN!
Ryan, there's a dark, cruel side of you which you've been hiding and is now revealed. Doing a video on obesity, on Christmas Eve??!! I'm putting it in my " play later" file until 7th January, the day I renew my gym subscription (before cancelling the payment on 8th.😅).
The word healthy with regard to food is regulated in the US. They just recently changed the law to tighten up standard.
My HK Chinese wife has never used msg - I did ask her about it, she just said "bad" - end of. Actually had beans on toast just the other day - quick winter fuel. Nice whole meal bread and a half tin of beans (no added sugar, no artificial sweeteners) and nothing wrong with it at all 😁
You guys obesity is do to all the sugar you have added to your food and the huge portions….
Not that simple.
😂, "he's pretty energetic for an old man" -> Captagon ( or Pervitine in his case 😂)
Yeah Nickado Avocado. Played us all he was playing 3D chess while we were playing tik tac to. 😮
You’d better call it an Ultra Processed Food problem.
Hmmm. Wonder if I am immune to MSG, then? I have total pancreatic failure (as in, my pancreas functions at 0%). It cannot produce ANY insulin (or any other hormones/enzymes).
Type 1 diabetes? Sounds sad
@@stannumowl I have type 3c diabetes, which is similar. In type 1 only the insulin-producing beta cells don't work, whereas with type 3c the entire pancreas doesn't work
@@markalexander3659 ok, I didn't know that type 3 is a thing. But you treat it similarly to type 1, right?
MSG being bad is a myth.
Merry Sugar to yal'll!
doesnt MSG naturally occur in eggs?
5:52 man completely missing the point as usual
I'm going to have beans on toast now...
Stopping video every 3 seconds nice 😎
Comparing total population weight, rather than numbers, would put the US in first place. Yeah!
Yeah !
No. Amerifats are big, but not 4x the average Indian or Chinese.
11:26 Uncle Roger 😂😂😂
Bananas are one of the least healthy fruit- really high in sugars.. So kind of proving the point on least healthy stuff being more affordable.
To be fair bananas are generally one of the cheapest fruit in Europe as well. Apples might beat them during local season
Why I’m an English woman , but I enjoy running . Especially marathons and ultras as never can I wear big trousers
