    Thanks for clearly explaining the ETF purchasing steps through Vanguard. After debating on buying funds or ETFs for my Roth IRA, I have decided to start with ETFs for now and this video came handy.

    Thanks for the great video. I prefer target retirement funds over 3 fund portfolios for their simplicity and diversification.

    Rob really enjoy your TH-cam channel. Wouldn't an investment portfolio of just Berkshire Hathaway make sense it is diversified and has outperformed the S&P. Thanks for your informative videos.

    M1 is great for investing and using their pies is easy...I love it! Their backend office operations are lacking and need improvement.

    Rob, your information is very helpful. Your set up of a 3 fund portfolio is what many people advocate for their portfolios. Nolan Gouveia, Professor G, has a different approach to a 3 fund portfolio. What are your thoughts about his recommendations for a 3 fund portfolio?

    Hi Bob, another fantastic content! I've been following you for a over a year now and have learned so much on how to invest. I opened a ROTH IRA on M1 last year and would love to hear your opinion on my picks. I am 45 years old and the only think I am second guessing is my allocation %. Would greatly appreciate if you can go over my portfolio: Thank you!!!

    I’m surprised so many still like M1. They are the crappiest rule ridden fee riddled banks I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with, could not even transfer my stuff out I sucked it up and closed my accounts went elsewhere and never looked back

    • @rob_berger

      You can invest with M1 for free, so not sure what fees you are talking about. M1+ does have an annual fee, but it's not at all necessary. In fact, most investors would have no need for M1+.

      @@rob_berger They have inactivity fee which is rather expensive. They only have one trade window a day so if you’re in a hurry to buy or sell a stock, you’re SOL. If you need customer support and send them an email where they promise to get right back to you they never do. If you make a mistake and accidentally send money the wrong way on the car delusive app, and call them right away they won’t stop it and they will hammer you with a fee. It all just adds up and there are so many apps out there that blow them away. I switched over to SoFi which has none of that and never looked back

    I am retired and currently using Vanguard Advisors. Vanguard is making changes in their advisor accounts and will not let me fine tune my international exposure. I have four different bond founds in my Traditional IRA account. Is it possible to use MI Finance to make changes in my holdings (to the 3 fund portfolio) and rebalance my account? I might have the option of using Vanguard Digital Advisors, for a fee, if they will let me control my International exposure. Bottom line I am trying to find an easy way to rebalance my holdings and control my International exposure.

    Would you think it would be reasonable to eliminate the bond or fixed income portion of a portfolio like this if someone is lucky enough to have significant pension income? Yes I realize the portfolio inherently becomes more risky but wouldn't the stable pension income replace Bond exposure in a larger picture? Bills and living expenses are more than being paid by the pension and no need to withdraw any income even during a market downturn
    Thoughts appreciated thank you

    @rob Berger Great Video Rob. A few weeks ago I asked for people like you and me with grey hair and nearing retirement about the best platform for investing. You said Fidelity TDA or Schwab because of the features for in retirement people. We only have four accounts but I’m worried about what my wife and/or older kids would do if I dropped and went to the big stock market in the sky… in terms of rebalancing, which account to pull from tax wise etc. Does Betterment have enough positives in that regard to pay the .25? I dropped my advisor because he was 1% so I don’t want to go backwards but also want the comfort knowing things would be fairly automated. Thoughts?

    • @rob_berger
      @rob_berger  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been spending a lot of time thinking about the very same thing. I do think Betterment is a reasonable option. I've even considered using it myself, although I've decided to hold off for now. But of all of the robo-advisors, it's the one I would use for the purpose you've described.

    when you rebalance the portfolio, do you lose money when selling stocks and then buying bonds? I don't know how this works. I want to setup the 3 fund portfolio for my roth IRA but not sure how often to rebalance and then how to do that without losing money by selling shares.

    I'll never understand why anyone would choose Vanguard over Schwab. Given all the issues VG has had, especially right around Christmas last year, and a decades old website that they refuse to update, I just don't get it. You'd think that a company with 7.5 Trillion AUM could afford to have 24/7 CS and a modern website like Schwab, but that's not the case. SMH

    • @paulacothren3591
      @paulacothren3591 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree. I am a Vanguard Flagship customer that self-manages family trusts. I agree with you. I also manage family Roth accounts at Schwab and Fidelity. Yes, Vanguard is far behind in the interface and basic user analytics departments, comparatively with Schwab and Fidelity. I had an excellent Vanguard advisor that transitioned our multiple trusts over to Vanguard. But his job was finite and he handed me over to another advisor. I had to let her go after 2 months. I now self-manage but it is impossible to analyze anything without going offsite.

    • @drott150
      @drott150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Mostly agree, but really, unless you're a frequent or day trader, the clunky website isn't that bad. Most people who use Vanguard are long time buy and holders. And for those people (like me) buying and selling is pretty easy. Definitely wouldn't say it's hard or inconvenient. Also, by having a Vanguard account you get access to all of their funds directly without loads, which Schwab and others charge if you buy many Vanguard funds through their non-Vanguard sites. And while it's true Schwab and maybe Fidelity too have opened up ETFs that are as cheap or even cheaper (sometime's free) than the equivalent Vanguard funds...but they're only nominally cheaper and also may have disadvantages for price spread when you buy or sell (nothing's really free). Plus, there's only a few of them that beat or match Vanguard. Almost all other comparable funds are more expensive than Vanguard overall. The zero low fee ETFs they offer are just to lure Vanguard customers away. Once you're in, depending on what funds you select, most will end up paying higher fees overall. Otherwise Vanguard tax documents import perfectly into turbotax so I'm happy about that aspect of functionality as well.
