Pianist, author, composer, and lovable scamp Jeremy Siskind shows how musicians can create colorful harmonies by incorporating notes from minor keys into major tonalities. He demonstrates using the harmonic major scale and the Mixolydian b6 mode (5th mode of the melodic minor) to improvise over these colorful progressions.

Thanks Jeremy - some lovely sounds there.
It's nice, right, Cliffy? Happy experimenting!
The Mixo-flat-6 scale is often called the Major-Minor scale, or even Melodic Major, which is a nice name to use next to the Harmonic Major
Nice - thanks for that, Anossov! I hadn't heard "Major-Minor scale" before.
Beautiful sound. Thanks!
yes, it is quite special. Thanks much for the comment, Lorin!
Jeremy, would you be able to take us through your first pages of solo piano with the stride - how wonderful that would be to see the author play each page every few weeks - Love what your doing here
Thanks for the suggestion! I Definitely will take it under consideration!
Dope! Bro! correct me if i'm wrong but you are playing a real piano yes? How were you able to show the notes/keys visually with an acoustic piano... and IF that is a VST... What the heck is it it sounds amazing... but I think it's a real piano lol
I am playing a real piano. I'm using the "One Piano Hi-Lite" across the keys which detects movements. That's hooked up to "Chordie" on my computer. Check it out - it's cool!
Cool !
You're rocking Peter and Adam's 'Open Studio' sweat shirt.
Actually, it's an open studio t-shirt plus the cardigan...but who's keeping track.... 😆
something borrowed, something blue!
Thanks for watching tot he end, Lucius!
I think of the Mixo b6 scale by it's Indian name Charu Keshi. There are entire full length recordings of only Charu Keshi)
Great - thanks for the insight. I'll know for next time!
something borrowed, something blue! I bet there's an interesting Venn diagram involving the maj6-dim scale but it's above my paygrade
Lol, thanks for checking out the video, Dave!
Similar to the “5th mode of the Harmonic Minor”?
For example, see Ken Hewitt’s example with “Softly as in a Morning Sunrise”
Hm, somewhat similar in that they both have an augmented second in them, but not quite the same set of intervals.
Cette couleur existe depuis longtemps chez le peuple Baoule en Côte d’Ivoire dans la musique apkôgbô 🇨🇮
Yes, great point! I’m no historian or musicologist but I’m sure someone who is could really add to my understanding
What took you so long?
Modal interchange is DOPE.😅
Nice! I totally agree, Johnny!

Thanks for checking out the video, Zach!
