I am happy to see the two brothers taking on the family business, and bringing the vibe to a new generation. Many children of these chinese businesses don’t want to continue the family business because it’s hard work for decent pay. It’s very important to keep San Francisco Chinatown alive for the younger generations.

Eric Chung from Hing Lung (Go Duck Yourself) is a great person, make sure to say hello when you see him at the shop. He will take good care of you.

Thank you Ms Lee for this look inside some surviving and successful Chinatown businesses. I hope the area doesn't change too much. The atmosphere of the early 80s was very lively and I felt safe. It was a frequent hangout on weekends while visiting friends who lived and worked in the financial district less than an hour away from my university. I knew the major streets that helped me orient my directions and coordinate my activities in SF. I didn't remember the names of my favorite shops and restaurants , but relied on them remaining on the same corner or two doors down from another. That's how I got around and enjoyed the flavors, sights and sounds of Chinatown SF. It's been over 10 years since I was last there. I'm afraid it has changed too much for the worse, and I won't be able to find my favorite shops and restaurants any more. Your segment gave me hope that I'll still find some good places to discover.

Remember that majority of these business feel pride in serving the community in Chinatown affordable and quality food. They are not just there to milk every cent out of tourists.

in usa or anywhere else chinese are very hard workers and most parents would leave something for their children so they would not have a hard life down the road , you will seldom see any homeless chinese ,especially in china .

I get very irked when I see another historical shop sign taken down on Grant street. It's illegal to take them down. I made a point of photographing some of these signs years ago. You may remember the Radio and TV sign with the black record upper right, and the peeling paint behind the neon, and the musical notes on both sides. Located down from Broadway, on Grant, about two blocks or less, on the west side. A classic, now gone.

What does that have to do with this video? I didn't see any signs being taken down.

You mean at 1051 Grant Ave.? I think it's just covered up with a new sign that can be removed if the business were to be shuttered.

Guys the dim sum place on Jackson St that Amber is talking about is one of the best my wife and I sit down there for lunch and order some har gow, shu mai, but stop the presses you got to try their juk. For desert try the jian dui or the Bai Tang Gao. Never tried the "Go Duck Yourself" but gotta go.

Ah Hell No!!! Look up my Yelp review for House of Dim Sum...found a cockroach, intact with egg, baked into my BBQ pork bun.

I prefer the roach without egg, that's 25 cents cheaper.
