Excellent lecture. What is the equation to be used for line sizing for compressible fluids like air and gases.
what is the meaning of pressure drop Ap(100m),
i have seen in many pumps dishcharge pressure is more than 20 kg cm2 but you are saying
0.45 .Kindly explain.
Good question Santosh.
We have tried to highlight your doubt in our latest video on Pump sizing.
Please go through it. Hope this will help you.
If not feel free to get back to us.

Thank you.❤
Thank you 🙏
Thanks a lot for the information But I think in line losses : K Value method formula should be f(L/D+Sigma*K)v2/2g...Bracket is missing
Perfect video
Thank you 🙏
Excellent sir, but solve the example in brief and then give another examples as assignment.
Thank you for your valuable suggestion.
We will work on it at the earliest.

Hi sir, very nice video, could I ask you that where the table "Line Sizing Criteria - PD and Velocity" comes from? I searched a lot but I can't find out the international standards of this criteria. Please help me, thank you.
Good question Zen. It is not standard or expected to stick with the same values provided in this video they may slightly vary from company to company.
Theses values are derived from good engineering practices and considering concept of erosion velocity.
Hope this will help you.
For more details you can refer a book " Rules of thumb for chemical engineers" by 'Carl Branan'.
For by gravity line for how much flow rate consider is it total MFR or either one.
Thank you for your valuable words Nausad.
For gravity flow line sizing you have to consider total MFR but velocity you need to consider is 1 m/s.
Hope this will help you.
All the best.
Very good informative videos, easy for understanding also❤
Is there any books for study mor details on these topics
You can refer Perry's handbook.
before isometrics is final stage for department na, without providing line size in P&ID how they will give iso??or is there any other type of isometrics is there???please clarify it.Thank you
It's true and forth process. In feed stage line length and elevations are considered based on plot plan and based on that tentative line size is finalized based on that piping department draw actual pipe routing and again in detail engineering the line sizing is done based on feed stage isometrics and if the losses are more then give comment on p&id and isometrics accordingly piping department will update isometrics.
Hope this will help you.
Stay tuned with us.
Enjoy learning 👍
@@PayosAcademyThank you for your reply.
so in feed project we do based on plot plans. for this which department develope plot plan if process on what basis from PFD or some other thing??
In detail engg project if line have more fittings piping dept will in form to process?how they will know no of fittings are more than the no of fittings considered while line sizing?? please clarify.Thank you.
thank you for this line sizing video, however can i get one with English Language for better understanding. thank you
Thank you for your valuable suggestion Chuki.
We have received same suggestion from many subscribers.
We will surely work on it and create a separate series in English.
But it will take time.

Can we aspen hysys for line sizing?
Good question.
Yes we can use Aspen hysis for line sizing based on velocity and pressure drop calculation.
Enjoy learning. All the best 👍
Hi you didn't mention anything about Mach no, where as i think it is also an imp criteria
Good question Soundarya.
In this video our aim was give overview about line sizing and focus on liquid line sizing. Here the velocity is very low hense we have considered only momentum criteria i.e. rho.v2 and that is sufficient for liquid line sizing.
If we go for two phase sizing or gas line sizing where velocity is comparatively high in such cases Mach number plays crucial role while sizing. We will definitely cover this concept in our upcoming videos.
For knowledge purpose:
The Mach number is used to assess compressibility effects in fluid flow. When the Mach number is significantly greater than 0.3, the fluid flow is considered compressible, and factors such as changes in density and speed of sound need to be accounted for.
Hope we get you clearly and tried to answer it correctly.
If you find any query please feel free to get back to us. We will very happy to answer such technical questions in future too. Stay tuned with us.
Thank you.
All the best. Enjoy learning 👍
In line sizing
Do we need to consider and add pressure drop due to elevation and equipments and then look for pressure drop criteria. Or
Just consider the pressure drop due to frictional loss in pipe and look for criteria.
Good question Akash.
In line sizing if you are only concerned with diameter of pipe then we will not consider pressure drop due to elevation but if you want determine downstream pressure after line sizing then you must consider elevation loss.
Hope this will help you.
Thank you.
@@PayosAcademy can you make video on control Valve sizing.

Sir how calculate maximum flow of line .
Ex-2 inch line maximum flow
It will depend on where the line is located. If it is in pump discharge consider max velocity from our velocity criteria and calculate by using formula Q= V * A
Hope this will help you.

If satuated steam density 0.590 kg/ m3 and consider velocity 50 m/s how its above momentum criteria 15000 ??
Pls answer.
Plz sir answer
Good question Sam. It will definitely not above momentum criteria but still we do not consider such higher velocity for Saturated steam line sizing because higher velocity leads to more pressure drop and if pressure drop increases there will be chances of two phase flow.
But in case of superheated steam we can go for such higher velocity.
Hope we understood your question clearly and tried to answer you correctly.
If not please feel free to get back to us.
Thank you.
Thank you so much sir.
