thank you so much! For my school project i had to write about fastelavn , but in norway we dont celebrate much of it (pretty much only the festelavnsboller), so it was interesting to hear all of these traditions that danish people still celebrate and the meanings behind them.
Nice Video! I have a Danish student who told me about this tradition and I will show your video to my students. There is a Jewish holiday called Purim which is also around this time, We also get dressed in costumes, eat hamentashen which is a special cookie, and give holiday gift baskets with tradition food to each other and donations to the poor. Kids also have costume parades. The background story to the holiday has to do with a Jewish Queen, who saved her people from the threat of annihilation, and there are often Purim plays that kids act out.
In Czech Rep we mostly do the Fat Thursday and pre-lent Mardi Gras! I've noticed that lot of my fave restaurants do free food and specials for Fat Thursday so now I am mega frustrated that I can't be in Prague just yet >.( I loved seeing all the types of buns! I could watch food footage with exotic-ish bakery all the time .D

in southern part of the Netherlands we called it vastenavond which sound bit like Fastelavn :-)
Oh cool. What do you do for this holiday? Is it very similar?
