    Gosh, that high-head steer looked good, but what an attitude. Glad he made his way to the coral and is no longer around hyping up the rest of the herd.

    When you do part two can you go over how much you get for the cattle, it would be interesting to me how the auction works.

    As manure is mixed with mud and cannot be separated, what can you realistically do to add some type of soil, like clay(?) to try to mitigate the mud issue. Straw may help but then again, you would be adding it to both mud and manure mix?

    Some of us need an explanation of the common terms. Hefer. Steer . Butcher steer.
    Sell the hefer to whom?

      Heifer is a female cow that hasn’t been bred yet/ not mature. Steer is a male calf that has been Castrated. Butcher steer is a steer that he wants to keep to grow a good bit bigger to haul to a processor to be processed into packaged meat.

    Always enjoy, My Uncle would shoot the ones with bad attitudes , that’s the ones we butchered, He had a bull that tried to Ram my truck while I was out in the field shooting ground hogs. I told him when I came in, he said that bull was tame and wouldn’t do that. Next day the bull rammed his truck, he then shot the bull and called me and said bring your knife were butchering today

    Glad to see you got that wild steer into the corral, while definitely high headed and wild, ive seen worse haha. Our last bull went crazy on us couldnt get within 100 feet of him before he got nervous and 50 feet he was running. Absolutely ruined the herds docility he was with while he was here. Got a calm hereford bull after that, put with the same herd calmed those girls right down to the point you can walk right up to most of them, it makes a difference once you take the wild ones out thats for sure!

    City kid question: If a cow births a male calf and the farmer wants to add a bull to his breeding stock, would it create significant heard n-breeding if the bull calf was not castrated and allowed to mature to breeding age? Would it effect the market value later generation market stock? Respectfully, W.S.

    • @farmertylerranch4399
      @farmertylerranch4399  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Inbreeding would be an issue and as time goes on it would become more of an issue. Usually we want to increase genetic diversity as this results in heartier more vigorous animals. New bulls are a great way to bring in new genetics

    Someone may have asked this.
    Does it make a difference if you were to sell the steers as a group and then your heifers in a group? Maybe you are doing that at the auction. Just seems that if someone was looking for heifers to build a herd it would be a lot easier if they were not mixed up with steers.
