       @aeiouxs Thank you. Glad you enjoyed them.. I loved working there, it was more like a community than a company.. I remember once; I was standing outside having a cigarette, when an American guy came over and asked for a light. I handed him a spare lighter, and said he could keep it. We had a chat, then went back inside. Turned out he was President of Lotus USA.. It was like that, didn't matter who were or what you did, for the most part everyone had time for everyone.. We were all in the same boat

    Its Lotii as discussed in the Aussie Elise forums. I was watching that Pomie series 'At home withthe Braithwates' The Matriarch bought the Lesbian daughter a yellow series one, I was instantly in love (with the Elise not the daughter) So i did some research then I discovered the Series 2! I found one in the seaside town of Rye in Southeast Victoria. It was $25K without a roadworthy certificate because it needed a new alternator. I bought it fixed it and loved it for 6 years then sold it, bought a very nice SLK350 Mercedes but there was just no comparison. I sold that and bought my second green series 2 Elise. The Lotus philosophy "add lightness".

    One other difference that you won't notice if you haven't driven both is the airflow. In the S1 the air goes nicely over your head, protecting the driver. In the S3 there's an annoying and uncomfortable draft down the back of your head and neck. Not nearly so nice in cool weather. Downright nasty when it's cold.
    But driving a Lotus is never about the creature comforts.

    Nice video but expected a bit more insight from a racing driver to be honest. Not really much about the feel and response of the steering which is the highlight of the Elise in my opinion. Nothing about the huge difference in low down torque and power of the supercharged engine vs. the rover engine which makes for quite a different driving experience, nothing about the servo assisted ABS brakes vs the non assisted brakes of the earlier car.
    Though maybe I'm missing the point and this is more about the similarities than the differences...

      ABS brakes shouldn't be fitted to an Elise.
      That's an American thing, same as how they shouldn't be fitted with A/C.
      It goes against the whole Colin Chapman thing.

    • @alexsedman1
      @alexsedman1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But they are fitted, which means the braking is different, but it's not mentioned. My point is that in a video comparing an old and new car, the differences aren't talked about really.
      I'm not sure I agree about the A/C. Some markets the Elise are sold in are hot all year around. The car can get very hot in the cabin and if there was no A/C option people wouldn't buy the car. The S1 was sold in places like Malaysia with A/C because it would be unusable without.
      Lotus struggle to sell cars as it is so limiting the market by not offering concessions to comfort would be a stupid thing to do and would mean the Elise wouldn't have survived to the present day. I'd wager most Elises these days are specced with A/C. I get that it adds weight but it needs to be an option.
      I use my Elise daily and on some of the hotter days of summer I've wished for A/C, even with the roof off.

      @wils35 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexsedman1 I know the ABS is fitted as standard but any true drivers car shouldn't need abs, it's for casual drivers.
      I understand your point with the AC, maybe I'm being a bit selfish (Cold Britain) not thinking of hot weather places, but for me every ounce counts. I would rather sweat my nuts off TBH, plus if you have the roof off you should be getting sufficient draft from speed.

      We could have made the video 3 hours long and that would have allowed to go into that extreme level of detail but we wanted to communicate the overall feel and experience that comes form both Elise and do that in less than 8 minutes. We weren't trying to point out all of the similarities or differences between each car, we just wanted to celebrate a brilliant and iconic car.

    FUN FACT: the Elise MK1 was designed in Italy by BUGATTI in the Campogalliano Factory, so if U have an Elise U have a Mid engine, RWD, 2 seater Bugatti... Kinda of...
    FUN FACT N2: the Ligier Nova had the same interior buttons of the Elise MK1

    • @jadc
      @jadc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It was designed in Norfolk by Lotus. Bugatti owned Lotus but had nothing to do with the design or development of the car. Those interior buttons were shared with that Ligier, yes, but they’re from a Peugeot 106!

      S1 Prices are climbing steadily A car with the Rover Engine will be worth more than any engine swapped car. Best bet is to get the original engine fitted with a nice manifold and exhaust system bigger throttle body and ported head. VVC Engined Elise is the best of the S1 for road use.

      A.K Morris bruh I meant the car! Lol. For real though, shame lotus can’t innovate like other car makers. I had a 2016 model and the build quality is a joke. And no, the handling does not make up for it, it is really that bad. Crap engine, leaky doors and terrible paint. I sold mine and got a Porsche. 1000 times better. Just as good handling, a little pricey but quality on another planet. Sorry lotus. Your days are over. This German dude is going native. Peace.
