When Jonah talks about Christian writings from pre-christian documents being considered hoaxes by Scholars it reminds me of one of the methods Scholars used to date scriptures. If the prophecies were fulfilled, then they were written after the prophecy was fulfilled. Which is an odd rule to hold when Jeremiah tells us people were prophesying both directions, we just keep the ones that turned out being true Prophets.

@scripturenotes : Jonah Barnes is not unlike the Shakespearean theatre actor who gives off the "Look at me... look at me..." vibe. He somehow needs to constantly remind us, more and more about how utterly wonderful and talented he is. Over and over pointing his finger back at himself and his vast knowledge and talent - the one thing we are the least interested in. Perhaps Jonah could use a couple of days in the belly of a whale to white out his bombastic boorish nature.
Cherry picking the apocrypha is no more valid than doing so with the scriptures. Sure you can find multiple parallels to Mormon ideas, so what? The Catholics do the same thing with it. This was informative, but you can't Mormonize the apocrypha anymore than the Bible.
@TheBackyarProfessor Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe in the Bible, all of it. We don’t need to “Mormonize” it because it goes along with our doctrine perfectly! We don’t need creeds or the precepts of uninspired men to interpret it, we can read the words for ourselves and interpret it by the Holy Ghost. We don’t need to cherry pick verses and ignore the surrounding text to prove some creedal notion or belief. I think your statement would be true if it said “you can’t creedalize the apochrypha any more than you can creedalize the Bible.”

Don't put you trust/ faith in the arm of flesh. All men are flesh.
I would lovingly differ on your conclusion about ‘sticking to the brethren’. I understand we must be vigilant in gaining our own spiritual moorings. But, 50 years ago, a prophet I happened to meet, whispered in my teenager ears, “do you want to know the secret to a happy life? Never put a question mark where the prophet puts a period.” I don’t think this counsel was meant for me to be lazy in my spiritual progress, in fact, it was the exact advice I needed as a youth with unsteady, unlearned spirituality. My kids have teased me about that advice, plastered in the walls of our homes in their youth. No matter the cultural whims and winds that blow, that commitment to trust in their words which represent His words, have kept me safe, resilient, and indeed, happy through the valleys and mountains of life. Those are still words of wisdom as I move into my sunset years. I stand by them as I look back on life as they’ve served me so well.
