      I have the Book of Enoch, and I'm looking into Jasher, but all I can find is that there are multiple versions, they're all purported to be forgeries, and that a lost version was removed from the Latin Vulgate Bible. Could you help?

    I am so thankful for trying ward radio once and finding Jonah Barnes, I wanted to read the apocrypha but was scared to read them because I really didn’t know if they could be read or trusted, or that I would be told it wasn’t good to read them. I’m really excited to start reading them. Thank you Jonah Barnes and ward radio. I’m not sure I can afford scripture notes right now but at least I know now that it contains the apocrypha books.

    Here's my favorite 'other than scripture' so far:
    "Return, my son to your first Father, God, and to Wisdom, your Mother. Wisdom summons you in Her goodness saying, 'Come to me all of you, oh foolish ones, that you may receive a gift, the understanding which is good and excellent. I am giving you a high priestly garment which is woven from every wisdom. Clothe yourself with wisdom like a robe. Put knowledge upon you like a crown. Be seated upon a throne of perception. From now on, my son, return to your devine nature.' "
    Circa 150 CE
    From the teachings of Sylvanus (Silas), Nag Hammadi library.
    Later quoted by St. Anthony, mid 4th century, so it was semi orthodox at least until then.

    When Jonah talks about Christian writings from pre-christian documents being considered hoaxes by Scholars it reminds me of one of the methods Scholars used to date scriptures.
    If the prophecies were fulfilled, then they were written after the prophecy was fulfilled.
    Which is an odd rule to hold when Jeremiah tells us people were prophesying both directions, we just keep the ones that turned out being true Prophets.

    @scripturenotes : Jonah Barnes is not unlike the Shakespearean theatre actor who gives off the "Look at me... look at me..." vibe. He somehow needs to constantly remind us, more and more about how utterly wonderful and talented he is. Over and over pointing his finger back at himself and his vast knowledge and talent - the one thing we are the least interested in. Perhaps Jonah could use a couple of days in the belly of a whale to white out his bombastic boorish nature.

    Cherry picking the apocrypha is no more valid than doing so with the scriptures. Sure you can find multiple parallels to Mormon ideas, so what? The Catholics do the same thing with it. This was informative, but you can't Mormonize the apocrypha anymore than the Bible.

      @TheBackyarProfessor Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe in the Bible, all of it. We don’t need to “Mormonize” it because it goes along with our doctrine perfectly! We don’t need creeds or the precepts of uninspired men to interpret it, we can read the words for ourselves and interpret it by the Holy Ghost. We don’t need to cherry pick verses and ignore the surrounding text to prove some creedal notion or belief. I think your statement would be true if it said “you can’t creedalize the apochrypha any more than you can creedalize the Bible.”

    Genesis 1 is ELOHIM (Lucifer and the fallen angels).
    They made man in their image.
    Man is an idol, a trap to hunt angels.
    Only one Gospel:
    The Gospel of Reconciliation.
    Jesus Christ came into THEIR kingdom
    to reconcile fallen angels unto Himself.
    We are the fallen angels (ELOHIM) kept in DNA chains of darkness.
    If you do not confess being a fallen angel in Lucifer's kingdom, then you are an unbeliever.
    Unbeliever = those that claim to be made in the image of ELOHIM(gods).
    REPENT FALLEN ANGELS.

    • @TheBackyardProfessor
      @TheBackyardProfessor 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Genesis 1 is not Elohim meaning Satan and his angels. The concept of Satan and a personal devil and enemy with his legions of angels was a much later development. the Elohim in Genesis 1 is the Council of the Gods. Michael Heiser has some stellar materials on this.

      What did Jesus say?
      Matthew 13:37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
      38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
      39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
      So, who sows the tares? Satan, the wicked one.
      Here's your admonition:
      John 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, WE SEE; therefore your sin remaineth.
      What sin remaineth? Your sin of leaving heaven for Satan's flesh party.

    I loved this! However... it's a false teaching to "stick to the brethren." That false tradition needs to end. If that were "a thing", Joseph and the scriptures wouldn't warn us to beware of false prophets and tell us in our own D&C what to do with a false or fallen prophet. Don't put you trust/ faith in the arm of flesh. All men are flesh.

      I would lovingly differ on your conclusion about ‘sticking to the brethren’. I understand we must be vigilant in gaining our own spiritual moorings. But, 50 years ago, a prophet I happened to meet, whispered in my teenager ears, “do you want to know the secret to a happy life? Never put a question mark where the prophet puts a period.” I don’t think this counsel was meant for me to be lazy in my spiritual progress, in fact, it was the exact advice I needed as a youth with unsteady, unlearned spirituality. My kids have teased me about that advice, plastered in the walls of our homes in their youth. No matter the cultural whims and winds that blow, that commitment to trust in their words which represent His words, have kept me safe, resilient, and indeed, happy through the valleys and mountains of life. Those are still words of wisdom as I move into my sunset years. I stand by them as I look back on life as they’ve served me so well.
