    People are definitely under appreciating just how much Brewer fits in the scheme. Williams is the better player when healthy but I really think based on what was available Brewer is a homerun signing.

    Another great show Coach! Brewer should fit well in McD’s offense!

    Appreciate you doing this video. I spoke earlier this week to you about Brewer and it seems your assessment is correct that he fits the scheme McDaniel runs. However, I only saw 1 pass blocking play other than your assessments of him in the "screen" game which should bode well for all the Bubble screens the Dolphins use. Still concerned though IMO about how well he holds up if asked to pass block if/when receivers are well covered and Tua must go to multiple progressions. Should be fun to watch.

      The problem with pass blocking clips in film review is that average and really good basically look the same - especially for interior linemen. I could go through Liam or Austin's worst years and find 200+ pass block snaps and make a case that there's nothing to worry about at all - but that's not reality.
      What I can tell you from watching Brewer is that he rarely has an embarrassing loss the way that we're used to seeing at times. He may lose ground more than you'd like at times, but I don't think it's drastically more often than other players and even if be does lows ground from a lack of size- he's still going to stay attached & give the QB a chance to move & make something happen.

    Coach you got me pumped about this guy. Does he have any weaknesses

    • @OLCoachSmith63
      @OLCoachSmith63  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Of course. If not, he would have been much more expensive lol. He's at a disadvantage vs a nose or 1 tech that has a long reach (think Sieler) - but he's learned how to make it work.
      Thankfully this scheme can help to avoid where he is 1v1 in those situations

    Like the video! Would’ve liked to see more solo reps in pass protection especially against blitzes, to address the concern in that area. Dolphins get the ball out quick most plays but sometimes Tua will need to hold onto the ball for longer. Like on third and long when we need a play. Do you think he’s more likely to get blown up on those plays?

      Pass blocking is difficult to demo in film review. I can take Liam & Austin's worst seasons and show you 200 snaps of solid pass pro. Doesn't mean there's not deficiencies.
      Good an average pass pro, especially for interior linemen looks pretty much the same.
      Brewer may not be a brick wall - but I challenge anyone to find 10 pass pro snaps from Brewer in 2023 that make you really concerned about his ability to succeed in this passing game.
      It just doesn't exist. He's not a perfect C. That's why he cost 7m/season. But he's just fine.

      @@OLCoachSmith63 makes alot of sense! Glad that you didn’t see too many bad plays in the pass game. He’ll need to do a solid job in pass pro against Chris Jones and Ed Oliver if the Dolphins if are going to get where they want to go.

    Feel better about him after watching this. Doesn’t have the power of CW but looks like he might be a little quicker. Also like the fact that the cost is around five million less a year that Conner would be getting if he didn’t suffer that nasty injury

    I was hoping to also see some one on one pass blocking to see if he can anhor against some of the better NT and DT in the league since that's his supposed weakness.
    If he can hold up, I like that he's 6-1 because it's a better sightline for Tua down field than what Conner Williams was for Tua playing center at 6-5.
    Hope we can convince Williams to play G for us this year. If he balls out there he could make 12 mil in 2025 because he'll have proved himself a great interior O Linemen who also is a top center in the league as well.

      Pass blocking was better than portrayed. There's plenty of 1v1 reps where he holds up just fine - and I could have included some, but people would have commented that I was leaving out the bad reps.
      There's some not great reps - but there's very few reps where he's just embarrassed like some of our lineman have been - and I think that will be hidden some in the scheme.

    i think connor coming back at right gaurd for 1year would help the team and help connor get his bag brewer signing also helps connor do that and brewer hopefully has way less bad snaps .... connor in the same situation he came here in and i think miami is still his best shot at a big bag and thats why i think connor comes back

      Miami signed Brewer because they couldn't wait & see on Williams. Williams was a 12m+/yr C without the injury.
      Was not the same caliber as a guard.
      IMO - He's going to want to go where he can sign 1 year as a C and prove he can still play at a high level to cash in for 2025.

      There's gonna be holding on every play. I think the fact that he was still moving forward would save him from the flag in most cases.
      Overall, I'd prefer my OL to hold on every play - and just learn how to hide it :). TStead is a master at that.

    Brewer may be a downgrade but it doesn't seem by much. Neither is a Longer or Stevenson.
    I'd be interested in hearing your views on the roles to be played by Driscoll, Cotton and Lamm.

    • @OLCoachSmith63
      @OLCoachSmith63  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Agree. I think Brewer is a very good addition for this offense with Williams unable to return right away.
      Driscoll: I see him as a backup utility player. I think Jones & Eichenberg are more likely to start at guard than Driscoll (could be wrong, of course).
      Cotton: I appreciate what he's done the past 2 years. But he's not close to athletic enough for this offense. He should not be on the 53 in 2024.
      Lamm: Swing T. Insurance for both Armstead & Jackson. He's solid, but not an ideal starter. If Armstead goes down for an extended period- I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the band aid off on Paul at LT.
