      Writer here: I actually had a few ideas to either extend the article &/or make a Tale to accompany it. I had ideas involving Alfonse going against orders and trying to use 3729 himself, or having GoI’s attack and try to steal it for their own purposes, or explaining where they recovered the doorframe from in the first place, but unfortunately they never quite came together without feeling cluttered. In the end, I felt like keeping everything simple resulted in a tighter and more compelling story, so I elected to make it as short as possible while including all necessary information.

    it seems that when a person has a grand idea for their best day ever(getting impossible revenge, getting drunk at a concert at a stadium you bought out) they end up dying by their own hands, kinda as if to say "this day is so good no other day can top it so i might as well make it my final one." but when a person has a simple idea for a best day, like a good meal, they have nothing to worry about. its as if this SCP sees someone's "BEST DAY EVER" as being their last day as well, depending on how grand the "best day" was

If someone’s ideal day is them being a good, generous person, they can’t be all that bad, but given in one canon the foundation uses that bus that clones a kid for d class supply, I doubt anyone still buys the ‘d class are all evil people so it’s fine to feed them to god’ narrative

      Funny how that's never been an official thing, but people just think "they're murderers and rapists" and fill in "so they deserved it." because if they didn't they would have to contend with how terribly we treat the people our society tortures for no real benefit other than some feeling of "revenge" that doesn't help anyone. Cognitive dissonance. Yes I'm a bit bitter about this, I have a Cluster B personality disorder and talking to actual clinical narcissists & psychopaths has proven to me how nobody is born evil. Don't get me wrong these people are manipulative liars but I see the same mortal fear in their eyes that I feel. Honestly, I envy their ability to suppress their empathy to get rid of their pain. I can't, and ultimately I'm punished for being a good person.

    Hey, Dr. Cambrian here! I’m so glad you chose to read my article!
    I had a lot of projects in the works on the site, but difficulties with Wikidot kinda forced me to leave. Basically, every time I clicked a link it would completely log me out of my account, and Google wouldn’t stop yelling at me that the site “wasn’t secure”, so I eventually gave up out of frustration. Hopefully, if/when they complete the migration to a new host server, I’ll consider taking up SCP writing again; I still have some neat ideas on the backburner.
    Interestingly, I noticed you made some minor changes/tweaks to the original article, which honestly make it read a lot better. The document at the end was supposed to indicate that the request was denied from the start, rather than originally accepted, but I couldn’t figure out how to draw a circle around text using wikidot’s formatting, so I kinda gave up and just put a strikethrough on the “accepted” part.
    Interesting how my laziness prompted a completely different (and honestly a lot more compelling) view of the article, heh. I honestly prefer this interpretation: it wasn’t what I consciously intended, but Sometimes the best interpretation of a work isn’t the one the author intended (*cough* Fahrenheit451 *cough*)
    Fun fact: I was originally going to make a tale to accompany this Skip, involving Alfonse going against orders & trying to use 3729 himself, which resulted in him rapidly getting promoted so he would have the power to do all the experiments he wants without any bureaucratic meddling. This occurs, but because deep down what Alfonse wants is actually to be this great hero to humanity and the foundation, the location comes under attack from the Chaos Insurgency mere moments after he’s sworn in as Site Director. In the end, he dies protecting 3729 from being stolen.
    It was a fun concept, but I could never nail it down in a way that didn’t feel cluttered.
    Again, thanks so much for reading my article; it’s amazing to hear someone of your talent read my writing. I appreciate it more than I can put into words.
    (edited to fix typos and improve readability)

      @thepearled0120 3 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      That's really cool! I'll admit, I was very curious about the "originally accepted, eventually denied" part, and started theorising on it myself; one suspicion I had was that Alfonso had used 3729 on the day he made his request, resulting in the document being accepted and all evidence of him using 3729 being wiped, but eventually resulting in them checking the request again and denying it before it could be used.
      Of course, a hole is blown in that theory know that we know what it actually meant. Still a great article!

      So what would Happen If someone who's greatest day would be having extensive genetic reengineering done on themselves to become some sort of perfect Version of themselves, e.g. a trans individual fully becoming their gender, or even changing species completely, Like If a furry who really wanted to become their fursona stepped through? Afaik that Kind of technology isn't even available to the foundation, would this SCP Then Just straight-up create another SCP to do that, or would Something Else Happen?
      I'm asking since the SCP seems to kill those who've Had their greatest *single* day in their life, but Not ones that want Something more simple, so, to rephrase the question: how would this SCP react If faced with Something that would be a really fucking big Thing to do, but also would be a long-term thing?

    • @balrogdahomie
      @balrogdahomie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@enderkatze6129 so, the less fun answer is “I Don’t Know.”. I purposely wrote the skip to be vague on what it’s maximum abilities are, and how strong it’s reality altering effects actually are.
      Gun to my head, though, I think it probably would let the person encounter a different SCP that would help them achieve their goal, and then let them go on living.
      The skip has a secondary limitation on its abilities, where it tries to maintain as much believability as possible. It didn’t just spontaneously generate the money in test 2; it made a winning powerball ticket. Rather than simply teleporting the D-classes out, they had them released due to clerical errors.
      Because of this, I believe the skip looks for what the most believable solution it can manage for someone’s best day would be, and in that situation, provided the person didn’t want to leave the foundation, they’d probably be fine.
      It’s hard to put into precise words, but effectively, the doorframe itself has a form of quasi-sentience, and is actively making decisions on how it’s going to make these days work out. Part of why most D-class die after their best day, isn’t necessarily because what they wanted was super bombastic and visible, but because if they didn’t, they’d probably end up back at the foundation being questioned and/or treated with amnesiacs. From the Doorframe’s perspective, this would effectively make that day stop being the best day of their life, because then that day would become (in the mind of the subject) a source of immense suffering. In the doorframes view, it’s better for a D-class who hates the foundation to die the day after they get out, than for them to go through the suffering of being brought back to the foundation. It’s a sort of “insurance” that way.
      Sorry if this came off kind of rambly, I’m not the best at condensing my thoughts down, lol

I think the mind wiping and impressing memories is a great idea. Idk how many times would be worth the risk based on this authors description of that process but I’d gamble atleast once. The real risk is it falling into the wrong hands. May not be a bad idea to make it a death pit covered in Scranton anchors imo

      Risk levels have nothing to do with containment class-- the door doesn't seem to think, can't move, and doesn't seem to affect people's minds to draw them into it, and that's all it really takes to be classed Safe. This is why there's that movement going on to expand on the classification system-- "safe" just means "you can lock it in a box and as long as no one goes to open the box it's fine." Opening the box could cause an XK scenario and it would *still* be Safe.
