    Felder is one of the best damn guitar players around. Bernie Leadon is right up there with him. 2 of the best.

      Bernie thinks of himself as a banjo player who also plays guitar
      Much of his guitar play is set up to emulate a pedal steel betraying his bluegrass roots.
      I think he gave the Eagles their Early identity or sound and Felder and Walsh their later.
      Both unique and both good , even if different.

      @@hoponpop3330 Either Bernie or Felder used a unique guitar where one of the strings could be lowered in pitch via a lever; can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

    Love the interplay between Leadon and Felder on Already Gone!! Check out the classic Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert on the Eagles. In addition, Don made the double talk box guitar solos and arrangement with Walsh unique on Those Shoes.

    When Felder joined back in '74 I didn't know he was friends with Bernie. I just thought he was a new guy out to change the sound of my favorite band, and I wasn't happy about it. Then many years later I read Felder's book and see the whole story about him and Bernie, and I'm okay with the change after all. I wish there was some live material of that version of the band, with Felder AND Leadon, before Bernie left and Joe Walsh really changed the band. I love Bernie's acoustic and bluegrass influences on the band, keeping them from sounding like just another hard rock band.
    And of course Randy Meisner. When HE left it was all over...

    My hope is that Leadon, Felder and Meisner reunite. That said, I understand Meisner has health issues that may prevent him from performing so then I'd be happy to see Bernie and Felder together again. In time Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt could join them when Henley semi-retires. David Paich on keyboards. Save the best for last to do his vocals (no drums and no guitar unless he wants to.) Don Felder's guitar playing and scoring arrangements for Hotel California is really what makes that song indelible. Don Henley's dark lyrics makes the song controversial, nothing more. Everytime I listen to Hotel California I scroll down to the guitar solo at the end right away because that's really the main reason I like the song. If any other lyricist replaced all of Don Henley's work, that song wouldn't suffer very much, it might even acquire a new dimension. I'd accept the song for any lyrics, even if Weird Al Yankovich did it, truth be told!

    • @etamommy
      @etamommy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The lyrics are archetypal and are absolutely integral to its masterpiece status as a rock song. So, I do not say you overestimate Felder's contribution because his part is equally essential and perfect but you have underestimated Henley's contribution. So I disagree that the lyrics wouldn't much have mattered.

    did Don Felder really own a third of the Eagles as he claimed??? not an original member....

    • @SergeitheMet
      @SergeitheMet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He was the last one to get that lucky. Initially he owned one fifth of the company initial members set up to handle Eagles business affairs. They decided to share everything equally till as Leadon points out Eagles turned into Don and Glenn show and the pair decided that they are entitled to bigger shares. Money change people. He ended up owning one third after Meisner and Leadon hit the road and surrendered their shares. Walsh and Schmit didn't get partners' status after they had been brought on board. They are just hired hands. Felder was actually CFO in the company, believe it or not. :) Sued Henley and Frey in late 90s to find out how much money were coming in and what and where money was going out. Settled out of court. I am curious if they bought him out as a result or he's still a partner. Technically and legally Eagles now could be just Henley, Felder and Glenn's son Deacon if he inherited somehow his shares unless the company bought out Glenn's shares upon his death. Questions, questions... :)

    • @danielbean7643
      @danielbean7643 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, he originally owned a fifth. They formed Eagles corporation after he joined. When Bernie left they hired Joe, but didn’t make him a partner. They did the same thing when Timothy replaced Randy, making it a three partner corporation.

He doesn't like it being the Henley and Frey show, wants to eventually leave, so Felder can join to more or less take over in the toxic environment he can't stand, rather than because he thinks Felder will be a good fit?
