@@TonmoyMaity Thanks for the reply. Let us say, structural steel beam splice is located 600 mm away from the support. Do we have to find out the shear and the bending moment value at that point to decide if the splice is shear and bending moment connection?
What if i have a beam-column junction, where the web and flanges of the beam are completely welded to the column. No bolts, no plate, no angle. Is it a moment connection? Thanks
Can the direct welded moment connect be achieved by eliminating the shear tabs, but instead, welding the beam directly to the column all the way around?
Dear sir I've been following you and found your videos very helpful. I've a question from long time that "Is pinned or fixed connection preferred for steel column base based on load?? and at what condition truss be connected by pin joint or weld joint???
First time hearing about it. Thank you Dear. I will try to answer you after proper knowledge . please wait till then and thank you in advance for your patience.🙏
5:35 you show a connection with both welds and bolts. This is a bad idea! Bolts fit holes with a certain tolerance (e.g., 1-2 mm), and their friction is often not enough to resist the shear forces in the ultimate limit state. This means that your welds, which are rigid from the start of the loading action, will fail before the bolts slip and start taking significant shear! In other words, bolted connections and welded connections work at different timings and should not be considered simultaneously within the same element. (their contributions to the resistance do not add up: first, the rigid welds take nearly all the loading and then they eventually fail, in a non-ductile way, and only after that do the bolted connections slip 1-2 mm and start taking the loading).
Sir how we can judge if we need to give shear or moment connection, means whether we want to trasfer moment or not. I get this doubt for steel structures.
My friend, you are such a talented instructor! So glad to learn from your class! Thank you! from USA.
Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much for explaining this my friend, you helped me study for my test. Love from Austin Texas
Great to hear!
Very good video. I'm a mechanical engineer and I use steel structures regularly and this video helped me understand these very important terms.
Thanks
Thank you. Just discovered this channel. Very informative videos.
Glad you like it
6.42, can these figures be shown in 3D for better understanding?

Very clear and nice explanation. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Very clear and nice explanation.....
Please make a video similar like this on Fixed Support and Pinned Support Connection of Column....
Thanks for posting crucial information in choosing connections.
Glad you like it
best vid i have seen well described fantastic
Glad you liked it!
This is the question asked me in an interview.. its a important video
Please aap video upload Krna continue rakhe hme aapse hi concept clear hota. Haim
Very clear & nice explanation sir. Thank you for this lecture.
You are most welcome

Awesome, thank you!
Very informative
Keep up the good work
Glad you like it 🙏
Thank you for explaining the difference between shear n moment connection especially at the column base plate
Glad it was helpful!
Superb strl expln best engineer
Keep going my friend
Always
man, you are legend. thank you very much
Thank you for your appreciation 🙏
Thank you so much sir. You elaborate this confusion in very simple words. Hopes you making video just in simple language.
Thank you for your appreciation ❤️
Really a. Amazing knowledge.
Thank you sir
Thanks 😊
Can you explain the advantages/ disadvantages of moment vs shear connections? And were the two types are used
Thank you and this is helpful !
Glad it was helpful!
Nice Explanation ❤❤❤
Glad you liked it!
many thanks for this video !
Glad it was helpful!
U give formula that's v nice
I subscribe sir, professional explanation
Glad you appreciate it.
What's the condition of the structure that one is to consider in order to decide that splice of structural steel beam a moment or shear connection?
Depends on the force transfer mechanism. If only we is connected, shear if both web and flange connected, moment connection.
@@TonmoyMaity Thanks for the reply. Let us say, structural steel beam splice is located 600 mm away from the support. Do we have to find out the shear and the bending moment value at that point to decide if the splice is shear and bending moment connection?
Amazing sir. Plz make video on different parts of steel structure.
Ok
You badass
This helped explain the difference of shear and moment
Glad you like it 🙏

Is it a moment connection?
Thanks
Yes , it is
You never weld the web..
Perfectly explained
🙏
THANKS! DANKE! GRACIAS!
Sir what is end reaction of beam
Can we do moment connection to circular column??
Can the direct welded moment connect be achieved by eliminating the shear tabs, but instead, welding the beam directly to the column all the way around?
Why not?
AMAZING SIR
Amazingly explained
Glad you liked it
Thank you sir 💚💙💜
Nice explanation, thank you
🙏
Thank Sir for this video.
Glad you like it
Excellent explanation
Glad it was helpful!
Nice explaination sir

Where would you use a moment instead of a shear connection? What are comment applications of each?
Dear sir I've been following you and found your videos very helpful. I've a question from long time that "Is pinned or fixed connection preferred for steel column base based on load?? and at what condition truss be connected by pin joint or weld joint???
I will make a video on this.
Very helpful
Glad you think so!
really good explanation
Glad you liked it
খুব ভাল

What is "Rahmen Structure" in frame work of steel structure?
First time hearing about it. Thank you Dear. I will try to answer you after proper knowledge . please wait till then and thank you in advance for your patience.🙏
👍nice
Thanks
How can we know that which connection we have to join with.??(shear or moment
It depends on how you are planning to build the structure.
How to calculate i beam selection depens on its length and load. Please do one video
Sure
why do we use KN/m^2 instead of Kg/m^2 or tonn/m^2 ,Can someone give me a resonable answer ?
It's irrelevant... ultimately it depends on convenience and clients
Thank you sir
THANKS SIR
Most welcome
