For years I called this the "bird that goes BEERB". I had no idea what it looked like or which bird it was, as I never managed to spot it! Thanks to you, I've confirmed that it was a nightjar... and also discovered that its song doesn't really sound all that much like BEERB :P But the mystery is solved! Thank you!
The Morning Dove in the background enhances the enjoyment of this video. I don't know where Pig General lives but I wish I still lived in a similar environment.
Thanks for uploading! This bird comes around when the cicadas are doing their buzzes. So that had me thinking it was a cicada doing the beerb noise between singing. lol
This evening I heard that call. I was trying to figure out what bird it could be. Suddenly about 3 feet from the ground a night hawk flew by. Thanks to this site for the help.
FINALLY! I've been searching for over a week for the bird that makes this sound! I always thought it was an insect or a frog, but then I realized it moved too quickly at night, so it had to be a bird! 😅
I live in a small apartment building on a very busy street in midtown Toronto. A few years ago I started to notice this piercing chirrup as this bird flew back and forth, sometimes followed by a sort of 'whoomp' ing sound. It was always at dusk through the evening, and it always started in April. He was late this year, I just heard him this week. Anyway, it took me a couple of years to figure out that it's a Common Nighthawk. Sometimes I can see him fly by.
@@Keersten07 oh wow, I didn't know that! Thanks. Our street is flat top apartment buildings for a couple of blocks, and there's a huge ravine system right beside us, so lots of birds, bugs, bats, rodents, skunks, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, and sometimes even a deer will show up.
I got in a small sound war with these birds a couple years back when they kept waking me up in the middle of the night. I never saw them, but the *BEERB* *BEERB* *BEERB* was always just outside the bedroom window. 😂😂😂
What is the bird that makes the three or four long "hoos" at the 0:07 mark? That is such a common bird here in northeast Georgia and I have been trying to find out what it is.
0:01-0:24 : wait a sec while I preen myself. 0:25 "WeEEeeAaak"
Sound of my childhood summers...... Love them!
These and cicadas.
Same here ❤❤

Nah it definitely sounds like “BEERB”
Everyone loves woodcocks for PEENTing and never offer any love for nighthawks who PEENT too.
My sister and I refer to it as them "beeping."
the peent of a nighthawk brings me so much joy :)
The Morning Dove in the background obscures the Nighthawk's call.

His song takes me back to my childhood.

It must think the bugs are sparrows

They nest in gravel, so if there are graveled rooftops you'll often have them in urban areas.

me too, i always wondered what type of bird it was
The whomp sound is air rushing over the wings when they are diving.
Same here! I lived on Raglan Ave by St Clair and Bathurst... The falconer from YYZ identified the bird for me.
What a sleepy cutie!
Yay! It was driving me nuts! Finally know what makes that sound around my house when it gets dark
same here lmao
You mean that loud, scooter-type horn beep is a lovely song? I'm not that desperate for a birdsong like that!

Taylor Sexton they are very pesty in our farm because they poop everywhere but they taste good
Cool video
I always wondered what made that sound
I thought these were Martins or Swallows that make this noise, the same bird that swoops near you at dusk while catching insects.
What’s the noise in the background! Hoo hoooo hoooooo
Mourning dove. We don’t get wood pigeons here :)
