Some very helpful advice here. I have found the strategy he describes of engaging the student in conversation about the subject matter, then mentioning the behavior issue in passing at the end, can really be effective. Has saved me a lot of grief I had in my less skilled days.
I think 10 years ago (when this video was recorded was different than today’s school environment. I work in a school that students constantly swearing at you, challenging you and you can’t even talk about school rules to them since they laugh it out.
