No problem at all! All dorm buildings at UMass have a key card scanning system at the front door and use a physical key on your room itself. What I found really worked for me was one of those plastic coil hair ties. I put my UCard in a lanyard casing and attached my key and the card to the hair tie with a key ring. Kept it on my wrist all the time or hung on a command hook by the door!
Hi Paige! Does the mirror in your wardrobe closet come with the dorm room or did you put that up yourself? And do you Have to bring your own trash and recycling bins or do those come with your room? Thank you XO
One of these days someone is going to have to take us on a shower tour if it's not in thier room. Because IMO that would be part of the dorm tour as well.
Hi Paige- also- are the bed that height normally or are they are bed risers? We want to raise the bed but not super high so we don’t think that the life kids that the school offers wouldn’t work. We just want a little height so we can maybe fit the refrigerator underneath. Any suggestions? Thank you so much
Most beds are captained as mine was, which is the highest the beds can go without lofting them. I was able to put my dresser underneath which is either the same height or slightly taller than a standard mini fridge I think!

Last question for a long time I promise - we noticed in the fine print it said that the refrigerator should not be any larger than 3.0 ft.³. How strict are they with that if we were to show up with a refrigerator that was 3.1 or 3.2 ft.³? I would just hate to buy it, lug it all the way there, set it up and then an RA tell us it has to go. Lol.
No problem at all I’m happy to help! Honestly, the RAs don’t get paid enough to care. Unless you walk in with a full size refrigerator I doubt they’d say anything.
hi! im going to be a freshman in honors next year and was wondering how you hung up that frame (get shit done one) since you can’t use command stuff in honors. did you use pushpins? also what did you use to hang your lights ?
Hi First of all, congratulations!!! I did indeed hang up my frames with command hooks, you just have to be extremely careful when you're removing them (pull the tab straight down completely). They tell you not to but literally everyone uses them. I recommend the velcro ones for frames because you can just pop the frame off the wall when you're done and actually have access to the pull tab on the command strip. For the lights and vines I used the tiny little clear command hooks, again just be very careful removing them. Push pins I used this year for posters and I'm sure you could probably use them to hang string lights too. Good luck!!
Yes bathrooms are very clean here! And yeah I'm in a RAP but it's a spring semester one so it doesn't have the residential component. There also aren't that many RAPs for the honors college, they're mostly just like "honors business, honors bio, etc. There aren't any unique ones like for other residential areas.
Your dorm is so cute... this would probs be awkward but how in the world does the whole bathroom system work? I won't be able to survive in college if I can't do my skincare routine jfkadsfksjdv
Thank you so much! The bathroom situation isn't as bad as you'd think (depending on the bathroom). Mine has three sinks, toilets, and showers and you just kind of find a method that works for you (like I do a good amount of my skincare routine in my room)
If you live in a double you would usually have a roommate, but because of COVID most rooms were singles unless you requested to be with a specific person!

The mirror, trash, and recycling bins are all provided! I was nervous that the mirror wouldn't be long enough but it is just about full length :)
