Ok, I just watched this whole video, and I must say I've never before been so rivited by watching someone wash their dishes. Really incredibly well done job of explaining your process and the reasoning behind each step. Are you a teacher as well? Your soap is not only beautifully crafted, but your videos are very well thought out as well. The thought process and techniques you use to achieve the results you desire is always thoroughly explained. What a great channel you have!
Hey Paula, thank you so much for such a lovely comment, it's made me feel all gooey :-) I am a teacher, but not to children, I train Accountants for their accountancy exams in my day job. I just love the whole process of learning and sharing with others. I want everyone to be able to produce soap that they're proud of, you know the ones you keep popping in to have a look at whilst they cure. Take care and stay safe and well Paula.
I Dream In Soap 💡 😏That explains why you are soooo good at the maths/calculation side of soap making! I watch your videos and wonder how the heck you do all that working out!!! I do not have a ‘Maths brain’!! 😳😆
After the first couple of times I washed up and it took a ton of Dawn to cut through the oils, I bought some microfiber cloths, an ‘orange’ degreaser and spray bottle from the Dollar Store. After wiping down my bowls and spatulas I spray them with the degreaser, and then with just a little Dawn on the sponge I give them a quick wash and rinse or toss them in the dishwasher. I usually have to tall containers of water for my stick blender; one with hot soapy water the other with plain water. A quick wash and rinse and it hangs on a hook. I also have a spray bottle of white vinegar that I use on my lye container. And I have a third spray bottle for my alcohol...whether it’s to spray the top of my soap or to clean. The cloths go into a bucket in the garage and I use them to clean whatever as they are ‘pre-loaded’ with soap.
That sounds perfect, it's so much nicer not having to deal with horrible oily water and jugs and things that are still greasy after you've cleaned them. You sound like you've got it sorted :-)
I have been making soap for about a year, but have learned more from watching you and a few other soap creators here. You have inspired me to challenge myself to do different things. Thank you.
Thank you so much Iliana_Kadra, I'm so pleased you found the video helpful, it makes it worthwhile making videos when people benefit from them. Stay safe and well :-)
Hey Sarah, thank you, I just find I don't really need very much, which is great. In the UK we don't tend to have many water restrictions a it rains so much, but it's still not nice to waste. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment for me :-)
Thank you Lisa. Good way to clean. Tried it and was surprised how easy it was. Probably the 'only' of your videos I can actually follow. 😅 You make great soaps. ❤
Thank you so much ! I found that video very helpful ! I often feel so hopeless at seing all those things piled in my kitchen after the soap is safe under its little cotton blanket ! Now, remembering you at that moment will be a great help !
AW that's lovely to hear, thank you so much Catherine , and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment for me 😊 I hope you have a lovely Christmas.
Thanks for this video, I was not taught how to properly clean up after soaping, and I just washed my things in the regular way. Your example and reasons for the steps have helped so much! I look forward to your next video. :)
Thank you so much, I'm so pleased you found it helpful and hopefully you'll find the washing up a little more pleasant in future. Take care of yourself, stay safe and well
Yes, a lot of people like to do that and I think it's a perfectly good method, anything that stops all that oil going down the drain. I just like to get everything all cleared up and put away as soon as I've finished. Take care of yourself, stay safe and well
What a great idea to use a towel to wipe down the dishes! I was using paper towels, and never got EVERYTHING off (and hated the waste), so I just started waiting the whole day. Thanks for the tips!
I had never thought of the oil going down the drain before so I am sooooo glad I ran across your video. I will completely change my way of cleaning up! Thank you so very much for the helpful tips.
Thank you so much for sharing your method!! I was using paper towels to clean out all of my containers and I felt like I was just being so wasteful. Using a microfiber cloth is a great idea, and I already have some at home!
I really enjoy everything you teach on your videos. I am 2 weeks new to this and have delved into many of your videos already. I've made batches of each of olive oil soap, beef tallow and then coconut oil soap, just very basic with essential oil scent and they are now curing. I'm excited( you couldn't tell😁) Again thank you for your wisdom. Bless you😊
What a wonderful tip Lisa! I used to let my pots and utensils wait until the next day when the batter had saponified but then I did not like having dirty dishes around the kitchen. So, I stopped that and used to clean everything with paper towels before washing them in the sink but then I did not like the waste either so your solution is the best of both worlds. I am so grateful! I think of you every time I make soap!
Oooh excellent news, the microfibre cloths do make a massive difference and it's so nice to get it cleaned up straight away. Thank you for your lovely comment :-)
You have just saved my pipes from a total disaster! Had no clue that oil doesn’t go down the drain, after two years of making soap. Better late then never. I pre washed my jugs and then placed them in the dishwasher. Now, I’ll dry them like you do and still place them in dishwasher. Thanks
This video was fascinating and very helpful to me. I purchased some products; supoons, minis, etc. for myself and for Xmas gifts. I never realized there were dishpans out there with drains and am going to order one of those also. Thank you for all your hard work on the various videos, and for directing us to useful products.
I have not made soap yet but am binge watching videos to soak in as much information as I can before I do my first cold process soap. I greatly appreciate your videos as they are very informative and inspiring. I find most of the videos deal with the pour and the process. It would be ever so helpful to learn about the different oils.. the properties they bring to soap and do they behave well with others. You are a gifted soap maker and I would appreciate your insights. My first melt and pour will be my project for this weekend :-)
Thank you so much Cynthia B Jones, I'm so pleased you found the video helpful, it makes it worthwhile making videos when people benefit from them. Stay safe and well :-)
Well, I’ve watched several of your videos tonight with one more in my lineup. I want to thank you for linking all of your goodies, especially the Guppyfriend. Very helpful, and I know I’ll order from them. Also Supoon. Who can resist that name? It’s downright silly, but their products are really neat. I’m an admitted kitchen gadget lush, so I know I’ll be ordering from them, too. I like that you allowed your ‘fans’ into your home, as it were. Not everyone would let outsiders see the messy bits. The party - soaping - is over and the after-party cleanup is, well, afterward and the guests are gone. As always, VERY informative with great links, a couple I’ll be using in future. Thanks.
AW, that's so nice, Thank you Sharon. Ooh yes Dream Farm have some fab things. I got their 'set of the best' to actually use in my kitchen and it's brilliant :-)
You have a wealth of knowledge! I’m researching how to make soap etc. Because my momma & I both have very sensitive skin. I want to make something that will help that. I’ve been reading a book on the science that cp soap is. Ive been making a list of supplies etc. But not once did I think about the proper way to clean up. Thank you for sharing so much info with us. You are much appreciated! Hugs, Summer xo
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment. It's funny, it's something that should be quite simple, and it is if you do it right, but it can be horrible if you start putting oily pots in water, yuk! Good luck with your research, just beware CP soap making is very addictive - once you've made your first soap you will be hooked. Stay safe and well :-)
Ive been making soap for about a year but have wanted to quit lately because the clean up is such a chore. I found your video and hope these techniques help.
I tried this method of cleaning soap equipment yesterday and it worked great. There is an additional step of using the cloth to remove all remaining oils, but the actual washing step is done a lot faster and with less water. All pitchers and spatulas were squeaky clean when I finished.
Yippee, I'm so pleased you tried it. I agree there is that extra step, but I feel that not having to deal with that horrible oily water more than makes up for it. I'm so pleased you tried it and thanks for leaving a comment. Stay safe and well :-)
Thank you soooooo much for this! I'm very, very new to soap making as I was wondering how to wash without getting all that oil and wet soap in the drain! You're truly the BEST!!! xoxoxox God Bless you 10 fold!
Thank you for this. I've been struggling over I don't like putting these oils in my drain. I've only been soaping since November. I've got a lot to learn. Have an awesome week
I love your wash basin with the drain!!! I use a wash basin in my sink every day. I must find this one!!! Thanks for posting this video. Very helpful! In my area, at the Dollar store, they sell microfiber towels. I will be purchasing a couple very soon.
Thank you so much, here's a link to my washing up bowl, it's UK but you can at least see the make, the way the brush hooks on the side is fab too www.amazon.co.uk/Joseph-Drain-Washing-Brush-White/dp/B01N43Q2T8/ref=pd_lpo_201_img_2/260-4704536-0373225?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01N43Q2T8&pd_rd_r=d879e294-b891-4d79-8ad0-025f585e8582&pd_rd_w=EfUav&pd_rd_wg=IudnU&pf_rd_p=7b8e3b03-1439-4489-abd4-4a138cf4eca6&pf_rd_r=7D5XHEEQA8J5TV9M1JY2&psc=1&refRID=7D5XHEEQA8J5TV9M1JY2
Thank you for the video. I'm new to soaping, and i'm getting ready to do my very first batch of soap with in the next few days, and was really wondering how to do the clean up.
Thank you so much @marlenellewellyn9987, I'm so pleased you found the video helpful, it makes it worthwhile making videos when people benefit from them. :-)
I found your youtube channel last night and am amazed at your content. your videos are soooo helpful and your soaps are amazing. You offer so much advice and tips i didn't even know existed. Thank you for making these.
Great idea to use microfiber cloths. I do love microfiber dishcloths! I have always used shop towels and once wiped I leave overnight by my shop sink or load my shop dishwasher and run/wash the next day. I am going to use microfiber from now on. Thanks!!
I like the microfibre, I think it makes a big difference, the 1st time used them for soap dishes I was 'Aw this is a shame, they're too fluffy and nice' but they just suck everything up so much better than towels, then they wash up really well too.
This is such a fabulous video. I know, it's just washing but I found several tips in it! I have those towels so I'm gonna give this method a try today. I usually wait till the next day but it can be a pain. Ty for this educational video! Smart lady!
Fantastic, so pleased you found some useful tips, I know what you mean, it's just washing up, but it's often the bit of soap making that people hate. The microfibre towels are great for just sucking everything up. Stay safe and well :-)
My favorite tips are washing your stick blender right away and wiping everything down before washing. I think this will help me cut down on my cleaning time. I also soap over an old towel. That way if I make a mess, which I always do, I just fold up the towel and wash it the next day. Plus it gives me a place to put messing things down.
💕❤️💕✨ I have learned sooooo much from watching you. Thank You!!! You’re an amazing teacher. I also have to mention that I absolutely LOVE the color of your kitchen!!! It looks like such a happy place. ✨💕❤️💕
Thank you do much that's so lovely of you to say, oooh thank you for the compliment about the kitchen, I remember when we were getting it done anywhere we went and said 'lime green' they were ooh no we don't do that, so we had to find a place that wrapped doors and do it that way. I love it too it's very bright and jolly. Thank you so much for your lovely comment :-)
@@IDreamInSoap if you ever struggle for Content you should take us on a tour. I'd love to see the whole thing. and I'd love to see your setup for making soap. How do you stay organized...I just recently found your channel and I'm obsessed. I've learned so much from you thank you
Great video as usual Lisa. I have been using this method for at least 5 years and when I tell people they aren't impressed! By the way, I am a fan of the little plastic shipping pillows - I haven't had the problem you described of having the soap not flow freely. Beginners luck I imagine. I throw my used towels, in a little bin I keep in my laundry room, and wash them a day or two later. Thanks, Lisa!
Hey Linda, ooh it makes so much difference. I don't know why people aren't keen, maybe they imagine cloths covered in soap batter, which if you scrape well shouldn't happen. Like you I find it works perfectly for me. OOh the little bags, I have found them OKish if I have quite a bit of batter in a bottle, but sometimes I only use a small amount and I think the bag sort of folds over on itself, but I do think they can be really useful.
It was so satisfying watching you scrape the bottle out 😁. I love you advocating to use towels that can be washed and reused. Loads of people use paper towels which is so wasteful. I'm guilty of using paper towels to keep my workspace easy to clean. I need to take a note from this and get some dedicated soap towels for my workspace. I'm one of those who stacks all my dishes and washes them a day or two later. It means I make much less soap sometimes because of this, but I'm a full time teacher anyway. I really enjoyed your cleaning tips and tricks! 😍 -Whittany
Thank you so much Whittany. I very rarely use any paper towels, I have some small scrappy rags that I use for wiping off any stirrers etc that I've mixed mica up in etc but then the microfibre cloths are brilliant, they just suck everything up and make it so much easier. They're so much better than paper towels
I Dream In Soap I love microfiber cloths! They're amazing for cleaning so many surfaces. Scrappy rags are great too. I'm big on "waste not want not," and I love to find ways to reduce waste. I've got an old shirt of my husband's that needs to be cut up for cleaning rags.
Such a wonderfully happy gal you are 😊 I just started watching you because of Tiggy from future primitive, she mentioned you in her latest video. I must say I’m happy she did. Keep up the exceptional work.
Thank you so much Natalie, he,he I am generally a jolly thing (lucky for me). So pleased you came over to see me. That was so nice of Tiggy, I knew she's seen my video as she left a comment, but so lovely of her to give me such a nice shout out. Hope you enjoy it over here :-)
I Dream In Soap yes tiggy is wonderful, I watch all her videos. I love how blunt and funny she is. And then to the other extreme I love how sweet, happy and funny you are.
@@IDreamInSoap Think they will be now, Lisa. My soap batter today had cocoa butter for the first time. It traced very quickly on me and I was so scared it was going to seize, i rushed it into the mold. I was doing one half kaolyn clay the other, pink. So, I was frantic! But my batter stayed manageable. Got it poured off, then spooned but because of my haste I did leave more batter in the jugs. Now, I'm learning don't panic. Just get a bigger spatula. I will win this wonderful war, Lisa.😊😊😊 Again, thanks so much.
@@IDreamInSoap Lisa! I paid a batch today. Took all your advice. Only used one spatula. Kitchen was completely recognisable when I finished! Washed up in no time! Confidence is growing. 💝 By the way, my name is Iris....still pysching myself up to master batch.😂
I like to wipe all my stuff down with towels to get rid of all the oil/lye then do a second wipe down, spritzing them with 91% isopropyl alcohol and using new towels so everything is sterilized. I wait several days before putting the towels in the wash to make sure everything saponifies. (It doesn't do much good if you just change which pipe the oil/lye goes down.) Thanks for the info on the supoon. I'm off to order one.
Your videos have always been so helpful. I love watching them and learning from you. I love your personality and am glad you keep making these videos! 🙂 Thank you!
I don't make soap but this was actually a very helpful video I would always thought how easy it must be to clean all you have to do is throw everything in water not knowing that you have to wait 24 hours.
Thank you so much and thank you for leaving me another comment, it's so kind of you to take the time. Yes, the clean up with soap making is one of the things people often complain about because it's not soap yet, so you end up with a horrible oil mess if you bung everything in a sink of water.
Hi Lisa. Thank you for that video. I have made my 1st soap today and the cleaning part I completely did not take into consideration so did it the wrong way, but felt it was not correct and now understood better my fresh soaps and the cleaning after :) Tomorrow making another lot so will follow your advice. Hugs W
Thank you for making this video. I'm just about to start making cp soap. I'm stepping up from mp. I've always wondered how people clean up after. This is the way I'm going to use. Thank you for sharing and explaining the benefits. 😁
Cleaning up after soap making is a dreaded task for me! I like to use very hot water and I squirt a bit of DAWN dish detergent in each container and then fill with the hot water and let them soak for a few hours. I soap in my kitchen too so I def like to get those items cleaned up as soon as I can. Sometimes tho I will come across a container or too which still feel a bit oily, so I spray them with my alcohol and wipe them out with paper towel. I like the tip on using the micro fiber towel! I'll invest in a few myself to hopefully eliminate the sometimes oily containers. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Michelle, I agree get it done straight away. I actually like it when you're just drying the things up and putting them all away clean and sparkly. I must admit though the good wipe with microfibre cuts down so much on any other sprays, using tissues and all sorts, just a simply wash after and they're all done.
Ooh, I've never heard of it, but I'll have a look. I'm sure others will be keen to know about this too, thank you for leaving this helpful tip Yvonne :-)
Thank you, like you I use my kitchen our laundry is not big enough. I am hopeless scraping out the bowls jugs, no matter how I try, I bought mini spatulas thinking they would work, not better than big ones, must be my old hands. I’ve been using paper towels terrible for the environment and not that effective. I’ve heaps of microfibres cloths, I will now try these. Yours look so clean before washing, any tips on scraping would be appreciated.
I have been making CP soap about 3 years and cleaning up after soaping was always a pain for me. I am so glad to find this video. Just wondering if you could share your experience how to clean silicon mold. I have many silicon molds with very intricate designs. After unmold the soap, I just wash them in hot water with liquid detergent. I have to use toothbrush to clean the intricate design, but I am not sure if this is the right way to clean as I sometimes feel there is some oil left on the molds. BTW, I really enjoy watching your soap making videos. You have inspired me to try some of the soaping techniques that I have never done before. Thanks!
Thank you so much Serana. Your way of cleaning the moulds sounds just fine, I would do exactly the same with the silicone moulds, using a brush to get into all the details.
Hi Lisa, love your videos really helpful for us lot in the UK. One thing I notice on all clean up videos, no one mentions the tubs or jugs used to make Lye solution. How do you clean these? I spray with vinegar because I’m scared if I leave some. I’d really like to know what you do, or is just soapy water ok?
Hi Rachel. I just rinse mine in plenty of water and then wash in hot soapy water with the rest of the things. Lye dissolves really easily in water, it won't cling to your jugs etc.
I Dream In Soap thank you so much, your channel has helped me so much I can’t explain. Your explanation for things, even though of read it and still studying, make so much sense. Thank you Lisa I’m based in Birmingham x x
I am pleased to say I do the same sore of clean up you do, immediately after making soap. Hate coming back to dirty dishes. HOWEVER, I would have given the dishes a final rinse under hot water to remove the soapy water residue.. Do you not give dishes a final rinse?
Hey Terry, it depends, if they feel squeaky clean, I just dry them thoroughly, as they have had the soap rinsed as they were washed, if I can feel any of the slip of soap then they get a nother rinse.
Great video. I do have a question about the lye eating away the fabric? Does it not? I would think before saponification it would eat the material away. Thanks for your great videos!
Hi, thanks for your comment. The lye will not affect the fabric as sodium hydroxide (Lye) only dissolved proteins. In fact what happens is as you leave your cloths over night (or longer) the batter will saponify and turn your oil and lye rag into a rag with soap on it, therefore making it fine to put in your wash and not risk putting oil down your drain. Best wishes
Thank you so much The Calico Heart, I'm so pleased you found the video helpful, it makes it worthwhile making videos when people benefit from them. Stay safe and well :-)
My one question - and I apologize in advance if I missed it - but what do you do with the microfibre cloths when you're done? That is what's leftover after you cleaned everything else. I used your method of washing up today for the first time. My microfibre cloths aren't nearly as large or quite as fluffy as yours but 2 did the trick for me. The first one, however, that took the brunt of most of the cleanup was really glopped up and I wasn't quite sure how to clean that. Thanks in advance... this is a great method that I will continue to use.
Hi, thanks for the comment. With my cloths I leave them for 24 hours so that the soap has saponified and then just put them in the washing machine with a normal load. If I'm not washing anything that day I throw them straight in the washing machine and leaved them there, if I am, I just put them in a bag or something. You can leave them for as long as you like, just a minimum of 24 hours so you're not putting oil in your washing machine
How weird, I definitely replied to you Nicole, but you're comment has come up again in my not responded to comment, so ignore me if I'm now replying twice. It's a good method isn't it and works well, especially if you have to be so careful like you with your septic tank, I can't bear to think of doing it the greasy water way - yuk
I have really scrappy bits of rag, I wipe the pots out really well with dry rag and then wash the pots as normal. My scrappy rags go in the was with my other cloths just fine, I do scrape the pots well though so that there's not tons of mica
Very informative! You are so organized. I soap in my kitchen also and do the soap dishes right away too. I will be using much less water in the future, thanks so much! Can you tell me what the soap/gadget was you used when you washed your soaping gloves? It looked like a bar of soap with a magnet attached.
Thank you Kerstin. It is so much nicer to get rid of that horrible oily water situation. The soap thing is a magnetic soap holder and it is as you say a bracket on the wall and then a little disk, a bit like a beer bottle top gets pushed into the soap, they're excellent for keeping your soap in good condition.
Hi Nick, I scrape it out with a great spoon called a 'supoon' from Dreamfarm. Then I put a tiny bit of water in it and soap washing liquid and an small cloth, shut it up and give it a good shake
@@IDreamInSoap Hello again, thanks for your reply. However what I really mean't was what do you actually use the squeezie bottle for in the soapmaking process as you said that it had soap batter in it? Additionally, thinking about your idea of cleaning your containers with a microfibre cloth I wonder how you then clean the cloth and what happens to the oils on it as it must be well and truly impregnated with it by the time you have finished? I made a batch of soap earlier this week and cut down on the jugs to use by using recycled yoghurt pots, and the like, wiping the excess out of them with blue paper roll and then disposing of them in the recycling bin. That way they'll be used at least three times; how green is that ? Ha, ha!
@@nickaskham5723 Ah, ha, sorry Nick. I use squeeze bottles in some of my designs. For example this one th-cam.com/video/nk82AAOxabk/w-d-xo.html. For the cloths, if you make sure you don't wash them for at least a day all of the oils etc will have saponified and there will be none left, then you are just washing soap. I love your recycling, it's excellent. I am shortly doing a video on reducing single use plastic in soap making. I must admit I do like the cloths rather than paper towels as the paper towels still cause excess waste. the cloths are reusable time and time again, and although you have to wash them, I just add them in with a was that I'm doing so I don't actually do an extra wash
@@IDreamInSoap Hello again - many thanks for your reply. I acknowledge what you say regarding the microfibre cloths which are, as many know, extremely useful for lots of different applications. However, your suggestion of leaving them for a day and then washing them because the oils will have saponified, hardly rings true. Saponification, as well you know, only occurs when oils are mixed with lye, therefore wiping out jugs that have contained anything other than soap batter will result in your microfibre cloth being impregnated with substances likely to affect your drains, ie oils. I agree that using paper towels to wipe out jugs and pots adds to waste but, again as a well known fact, when microfibre cloths are washed, many of the tiny fibres go with the washing water and ultimately end up in the sea. Using recycled pots for all but the lye and soap batter ultimately means far less items to wash up, which I do a day or two later using the saponified soap batter. Regards, Nick.
I had a quick scan through but couldn’t see any questions/ answers to: how to put the holes in the top of your stick blender head? A regular drill won’t even make a mark on the steel material.
It’s good to see how you avoid getting oils down the drain. Very important - especially if you have a septic system! Thanks Lisa! 👍 And did I hear you correctly at the end? Did you say you will be making soap soup?! 😄
Thank you Denise, I so hate that horrible oil water you get if you don't clean them all off 1st. Ew soap soup sounds yuk, I can't see it being a hit :-)
Lovely lovely video, Lisa! I enjoyed it the whole way through 😊 Full of great tips and examples. I did have one question about the thing at 5:42. What is that?? It has its own special hanging thing and all.
Hey Shonna, thank you my good friend. The 'thing' is a magnetic soap holder, it's brilliant. It's a little bracket that attaches to the wall then you get a metal disc, a bit like a beer bottle top that you push into your soap, it then keeps the soap lovely and dry, they're brilliant. If I'm using a fancy soap (this was just a ball of squished up off cuts) I put the metal disc thing on the top of the soap, then they hand down like little pictures.
You used a purple soap that you attached to your tap. Did you make it? Is there a magnet attached to it? What a great idea. Would love to know how to make one,
Hi Karen, did you mean did I make the soap, or the holder? The soap was just trimmings from another soap, end bits and bevel trimmings, the holder is a magnetic soap holder. It's like a bracket on the wall and a disk a bit like a beer bottle cap gets pushed into the soap. I'm not sure where you're based but if you do a search for magnetic soap holder lots should pop up, They are fab for keeping your soap in good condition.
I came to the comments because I just knew someone HAD to have asked exactly this! I didn't realize until seeing it how badly it is needed in my life 😄
Kia Ora I Dream In Soap, I was wondering if you could tell me where you got your sink from, that you are washing your soap making equipment in please? Thank you!
Hi, I presume you mean the washing up bowl, not the actual sink. This is the make of the bowl, I can't remember where I actually bought it, but this is what it is www.josephjoseph.com/collections/washing-up-bowls/products/washdrain-washingup-bowl?variant=31897398018120
Ha, I knew you'd watch it, you super reliable thing :-) Hey, great minds think alike, just think how much you'd hate it if you were swimming around in oily water though :-)
I have trouble scraping out EVERY bit of my batter. No matter what I do I can't get it all. All of the spatulas I have(and cant find) are slightly angled, they aren't perfectly square/flat at the edge, and they're either too rigid or too flexible to get every bit out. Is there a particular brand or type you use and recommend?
Ah, ha, was just answering a facebook query and thought. ooh someone on TH-cam asked about my spatulas, but at that point I was in a mad das to do something. Well, I can tell you again now. I use these ones www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077NTZ4DN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
My main scale can be calibrated it's a KD7000 so I have bought a certified calibration weight and regularly calibrate it. My small scale (the dual one) Heston Blumethal precision. The bigger platform is slightly out (i.e. it shows weight 0.1% heavier than it is) but he precision part of it is accurate. I only use the big part of the dual scale if things can afford to be off a tiny bit

Stay safe and well :-)
I’m impressed with how little water you used❣️🎉🌎
Hey Sarah, thank you, I just find I don't really need very much, which is great. In the UK we don't tend to have many water restrictions a it rains so much, but it's still not nice to waste. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment for me :-)
This is great info, I'm glad you made this video because I will be using this method to clean ...love this method
Thank you Kesha, so pleased you found it useful :-)
Thank you Lisa. Good way to clean. Tried it and was surprised how easy it was. Probably the 'only' of your videos I can actually follow. 😅 You make great soaps. ❤
:-D
Take care of yourself, stay safe and well
Thank you a lot , the most difficult part in soaping is cleaning the mess, I’m happy you made this, this will make my life much more better 🤩🤩🤩
Glad I could help! so pleased you found it useful
Seriously, I think this video just saved me like 200 liters of water and a TON of frustration getting things clean. Thank you SOOO much for sharing :)
That's excellent news, it really does make it far more bearable
This is so incredibly helpful! I also make soap in my small kitchen (in a small condo), and these tips are soooo helpful!
I'm so glad, thanks for you lovely comment Marilyn
I still like to let the oils saponify over night on my equipment and then use what soap is on it to clean it. Works great for me.
Excellent new, yes a nice absorbent cloth ideally microfiber just sucks everything up :-)
I had never thought of the oil going down the drain before so I am sooooo glad I ran across your video. I will completely change my way of cleaning up! Thank you so very much for the helpful tips.
Thank you for leaving a comment Deborah Takahashi I'm so pleased you found it useful☺️
Thank you so much for sharing your method!! I was using paper towels to clean out all of my containers and I felt like I was just being so wasteful. Using a microfiber cloth is a great idea, and I already have some at home!
Excellent news, the microfibre cloths are so much more absorbent too.
Thank you again, you are definitely the very best
Thank you so much, that's so kind of you
I really enjoy everything you teach on your videos. I am 2 weeks new to this and have delved into many of your videos already. I've made batches of each of olive oil soap, beef tallow and then coconut oil soap, just very basic with essential oil scent and they are now curing.
I'm excited( you couldn't tell😁)
Again thank you for your wisdom.
Bless you😊
Hey Julie, that's so fantastic ooh and just to be aware that excitement never really goes
Thanks
Oh yes, oil and drains can be a disaster. I like your compromise it should work really well.
This video was fascinating and very helpful to me. I purchased some products; supoons, minis, etc. for myself and for Xmas gifts. I never realized there were dishpans out there with drains and am going to order one of those also. Thank you for all your hard work on the various videos, and for directing us to useful products.
He, he, you made me giggle - ooh enjoy all your new things :-)
I have not made soap yet but am binge watching videos to soak in as much information as I can before I do my first cold process soap. I greatly appreciate your videos as they are very informative and inspiring. I find most of the videos deal with the pour and the process. It would be ever so helpful to learn about the different oils.. the properties they bring to soap and do they behave well with others. You are a gifted soap maker and I would appreciate your insights.
My first melt and pour will be my project for this weekend :-)
Hi Jane, this is something quite a few people have asked for, so I will be looking into doing something on this
As a new soaper, this video was very informative to me.
Good luck with it
I tried this method of cleaning soap equipment yesterday and it worked great.
Glad it was helpful!
Oooooo just now saw the bottle spoons! Thanks! -Momo, USA
Ooh yes, they're fantastic - mini sapoons
Thank you for this. I've been struggling over I don't like putting these oils in my drain. I've only been soaping since November. I've got a lot to learn. Have an awesome week
So pleased you found it helpful Cheryl, I know exactly what you mean about hating the oils in the sink. Thank you for leaving m a comment :-)
AW, such a lovely comment, thank you so much Aileen that's really kind of you and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment :-)
I cannot thank you enough! Great tips
I'm so pleased you found it useful :-)
That's excellent news, and the towel is great too, yes a place to put messy things, always good
💕❤️💕✨ I have learned sooooo much from watching you.
I Dream In Soap ..... You’re very welcome. And your right... it is a “Jolly” color!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent tips! I love your sink tub too.
Thanks so much LS! 😊
super super helpful . thank you
Excellent, so pleased. Thank you my faithful comment leaver :-) always appreciated
Oh! Lisa! You are such a darling! My messes are mega! Thank you so much.💞💞💞
You are so welcome Iris, may your messes be smaller, or at least easier to clean up :-)
@@IDreamInSoap Think they will be now, Lisa.
@@lovereigns4017 Excellent, look at you :-)
@@IDreamInSoap Lisa!
Brilliant! Love it! Glad you did this. Always glean little tidbits from your vids!💜

Thank you so much, super informative. Love your videos ❤
That's so kind of you to say Tammy , thank you so much 😊
Hi Lisa. Thank you for that video. I have made my 1st soap today and the cleaning part I completely did not take into consideration so did it the wrong way, but felt it was not correct and now understood better my fresh soaps and the cleaning after :) Tomorrow making another lot so will follow your advice. I'm so pleased. It really does make a difference not to slosh around in horrible oily water :-)
This is fantastic, thank you for the idea!
You are so welcome!
Is “Potassium alum” available in your country? You may try spread the solution of it before washing. It really helps when I go out to teach.
Ooh, I've never heard of it, but I'll have a look. I'm sure others will be keen to know about this too, thank you for leaving this helpful tip Yvonne :-)
Really?noted
Hi I’m a soap maker beginner, I must say your channel is the best one for someone like me😁.
Could you do a video more detail about water discount
Hi, so pleased you find my video useful. I already have a video dealing with water discounts here th-cam.com/video/EjqYYGaGVvw/w-d-xo.html
Really useful video, thanks for sharing all the little tips. Off to buy a supoon 😃 x
So pleased you found it helpful, supoons are fab, the normal size ones are excellent for cooking.
Thank you for this, I'm always a bit stressed when it comes to cleaning up lol
Thank you so much Alida van Heerden, that's very kind of you. I hope your washing up is now less stressful
I'm going to start using your method. My poor plumbing....
Excellent news, I hope you like it, I find it so much better than dealing with oily water.
Thank you Lisa
I’m based in Birmingham x x
Great tips,thank you!
Thank you Patricia, so pleased you found it useful :-)
I have that spoon but it hasn't been demoted to soap (just) yet! It's still my favourite spoon for pickle jars 😉
They are so great aren't they. I have a supoon as well (the big version) and use it when I'm cooking all the time.
Not exciting like you said but still essential all the same, many beginners ask the question and now have somewhere to find the answer 🤗
Thanks Jackie, yes it is something that gets asked a lot, or the common statement that people hate the clearing up.
Best wishes
@@IDreamInSoap Proteins! I see! Makes sense now. Thank you!
So helpful, thank you so much. XXX
@@IDreamInSoap - thanks so much for the quick response.
thank you I know I am doing it correctly now. I have a septic er my drains .Plus how little water you used as I am also on tank
Any tips on how to clean colorants like mica and TD? They're awful to clean. Thanks
I Dream In Soap Thank you Lisa! You are so imaginative with your soap designs and very meticulous! I’m so glad I discovered your channel.😃
very very helpful txs
You are most welcome
Helo - I'm curious about the squeeze bottle, what do you use it for because you say about the batter within it?
Regards,
Nick.
This may seem a silly question, but I’m curious... When you wash your rags, do you use laundry soap, or do you rely on the soap in your rags?
HI Juanita, I add laundry soap as well, mainly because they just go into a normal washing load after they have sat and saponified.
I had a quick scan through but couldn’t see any questions/ answers to: how to put the holes in the top of your stick blender head? A regular drill won’t even make a mark on the steel material.
Carbide drill bit - drill from the inside outwards. Go slow.
@@IDreamInSoap thank you
It’s good to see how you avoid getting oils down the drain.
Brilliant
That's so kind of you to say @kristinedavies2410, thank you so much 😊
Lovely lovely video, Lisa!
@@IDreamInSoap how interesting! I've never heard of such a thing
I didn't realize until seeing it how badly it is needed in my life 😄
I was concern about washing it in my kitchen because of the lye, so no problem then? Using this method?
Six years in, no accidents. ;-)
informative. ty
Thank you, and thanks for leaving me a comment :-)
Use a wood spoon handle to clean bottles or a skinny stick.
Hey Connie, that's a good idea, those pesky bottles can be tricky. I hope you and your family are keeping fit and well.
@@IDreamInSoap all is well thank the Lord, hope you and yours are doing well..
@@IDreamInSoap Hi there, yes I meant the washing up bowl. Thank you!
I do this after making soap but I still hate washing up lol x
Ha, I knew you'd watch it, you super reliable thing :-) Hey, great minds think alike, just think how much you'd hate it if you were swimming around in oily water though :-)
@@IDreamInSoap so true lol, sometimes I do use my dishwasher though xx
Hey Lisa- how accurate is your scale? Could you please share what it is? Thank you kindly.
Thank you for sharing! I just did my first batch and everything mentioned in video not to do... I did it! 😳 It was A nightmare... I used activated charcoal!
Oh, no, well maybe next time it will be better :-)
@@IDreamInSoap It was much better today! So thankful for your video! No mess, fast clean up! May I ask is it safe to wash those microfiber cloths in laundry?
@@unbreakable207 Excellent, Yes it's perfectly fine, just leave them for a day 1st so the mess on them turns into soap and then wash with a normal load, you can leave them longer, it's fine
Perfect! Appreciate all the knowledge you shared! ☺️ Thank you again!
I have a dumb question. Did you not rinse them after the soapy part?
After I wash them up? no, I don't give them another rinse, they're all nice and clean at that point so I just dry them up
Where can I get that basin?
It's made by Joseph and Joseph, you can get it on Amazon etc. Sorry for the late reply it's been so busy here :-)
How can i clean steel dishes ?🥺🥺
I would just do it in the same way. Wipe them out and then wash them
OMG! The local ACE Hardware has a #Supoon display here and I thought it was just another frivolous tool I didn't need.
I now know otherwise!
😳😳😳😳😳
Oooh you lucky thing, supoons are fab, I use them all the time when cooking and then mini supoons - well I just love them
👍🏻💗🤗😘
Thank you so much @aeon-2, that's very kind of you.
Al pure estili ingles no los enguagan
Hola, lo siento, no estoy seguro de lo que quieres decir
You do the washing up very different
I made the mistake of putting it into the dishwasher first time 😬
OOh, I think you can use the dishwasher but you would need to very thoroughly wipe everything down 1st
@@IDreamInSoap I didn't wipe down, I had an over flow of bubbles, took three washes to clear it. Next time I will wipe the items first
