Curiosity is one of only two operating vehicles on all of Mars, half a world away from Jezero crater. So it was a bit unsettling when Perseverance pulled up to a slab of rock after a recent drive and observed freshly made scrape marks.

It's amazing that we get an update from Mars every week. It's so good to know what is going on up there. Good work Mars Guy.

Your explanation is plausible but as my grandfather used to say about everything, "I bet it was those darn teenagers!"

Perhaps Perserverance ran over a rock and it shot out from under the wheel under the pressure and made those marks. I've run over rocks in my bicycle to see them rocket away at high speed. Perserverance weighs 866 lbs (393 kg) on Mars, easily enough to do this.

Great point about how a rover would be lighter on Mars than on Earth with 38% of Earth's gravity! Fascinating and never gets old

Wow, this was some great detective work. The last sentence, reminding us of the lower gravity on Mars, was very fitting in this case.

Wow a channel about Mars that doesnt assume that everything they see is absolute proof of alien life on Mars. Whodathunk that things can have very simple and logical cause aside from ALIENS DID IT! Most other channels about Mars would automatically assume that this is "proof" of an alien running across the rocks as the rover approached the area.

Nice detective work, Mars Guy! I think your proposed explanation has to be the correct one. It looked to me as if the spacing of the abrasion marks on the left side of the slab matches the spacing of the ribs on Perseverance's wheels.

i know it's off-topic, but do you think someone somewhere, out in engineering-land, has a serious design for a working O'Neill Cylinder? Luv the channel, it's required viewing 😀
