So when these jazz guys (Charlie Parker, etc)are writing a tune or or improvising the tune , the lines, phrases, etc) what comes first the chords or the melody?
Charlie Parker would often write new melodies over existing chord progressions (popular standards of the time). So in those cases, the chords came first. But that's not always the case
