  • We've heard that one can spend a lifetime of boating the Bay's 3,200-plus square miles without ever getting bored. The Bay has borne witness to many historically significant events since the earliest days of the colonization of North America and we were anxious to finally make it to the Bay while doing America's Great Loop. That we were able to have a couple of our granddaughters with us during our first visit made it all the more special.
Our first day's cruise from Norfolk to Yorktown was comfortable and uneventful, but the conditions on the water got very sloppy for a couple days after that. We bounced around like we were in the open ocean for many hours, even while at anchor. None of the crew was happy with the constant movement, but we still had a great time and are glad to have finally made it to the Chesapeake. We plan to return another year to explore the Bay at a more leisurely pace.
As always, we appreciate you taking the time to watch.
    Onward!

I actually live on the VA peninsula so I'm right in between the bay and the ocean.
The Chesapeake Bay is really shallow do even though the waves look small they will toss small boats all over the place

That's the truth about the waves tossing boats all over the place. We've been fascinated by how the elements - wind, current, tides, etc. - have different effects on different bodies of water.
The Chesapeake has its own unique patterns, doesn't it? 😎

Tangier island is in Virginia not Maryland ,Smith island is in Maryland. The waters around Tangier are shallow, which creates close, steep waves, not the best for anchoring.

You've got that right about "not best for anchoring"! It was a mess. 😬
