That's the truth about the waves tossing boats all over the place. We've been fascinated by how the elements - wind, current, tides, etc. - have different effects on different bodies of water. The Chesapeake has its own unique patterns, doesn't it? 😎
Tangier island is in Virginia not Maryland ,Smith island is in Maryland. The waters around Tangier are shallow, which creates close, steep waves, not the best for anchoring.
