Good advice. I think this is partly why so many people in their 20s and 30s are trying to make side hustles and get a business going even of they have decent jobs. Some companies consider late 30s old
I really wish I would have known it was going to be like this when I was younger, as I would have planned my life differently. I figured have my children young, so I can hit 40, go back to school and finish the last 25 -35 years with a nice career with good pay- after all if i have a PhD I can get a job right? But now I raised my kids, i am 8 months away from my bachelor s degree and although I did have a fantastic job with the Census bureau it was temporary and I had to take a 5 dollar an hour pay cut and i currently work as a retention agent in a call center. For 13 /hr. At 46
That's what I always wonder when I see young people making fun of people who are older. You have to be seriously lacking in the self awareness department to do that, do they not know that they themselves are getting older every single day, or do they plan on dying soon or something?
@@Kaledrone Yeah the minors on TikTok always attack older people but it’s going to happen to them. They think their teenage years are permanent when that goes by super fast.
When the economic slump of 2008 the people who suffered the most were those who were within 15 years of retirement. It didn't matter that they had a college degree or years of experience at the job the were doing--they were cut loose because it cost the company's they worked for more to employ someone with that much experience and because it cost more to provide health insurance to employees over 40. If that isn't ageism, I don't know what is.
At 57 years old I was looking for a job. It took me a year and a 1/2 to find someone that would hire me, it was the 1st time in my life I ever had trouble finding a job. It was obvious it was due to my age. I had an excellent work record and references. I also was not asking for more money than people with much less experience. I have been at my current job for 4 years now. I work with much younger people , they are always out sick, family drama or have young children that are sick. When they are at work they do very little, mainly play on their phones or spend time talking to one another. I am 61 and work circles around my coworkers , yet I guarantee you if I were to forget something or call out sick or have any sort of issue I would immediately be pegged as being too old for the job . It sickens me the prejudice against my generation who actually work their tails off so no one can say we are getting too old to do the job are discriminated against like we are...
You don't have to put younger people down either. You are doing ageism by saying we are all lazy and don't work as hard as you. You think it will be easy for me to get a job as a 25 year old in a library? I am just about finished with my masters and yet I was never given the chance to work in a library before. The problem is the focus on age and not focusing on the skills people bring. I've accepted I am old to a 21 year old. I know I am still very young to someone 45. Ageism hurts everyone.
it also affect younger people when people tell you your too young enough too do this and that older people controlling our lives & don't let us have a choice of our own
I worked for 44+ years until I, unfortunately, became a victim of medical malpractice. Because I was not informed of all the damage my body sustained (while I was on a ventilator with hospital-acquired septic shock) until the statute of limitations to sue had expired, I am forced to live in affordable housing that is barely maintained. Even if I had known in time to get justice, finding a lawyer to take a medical malpractice case when you are older, a female, and single is next to impossible as we are viewed as dispensable by society in general. There is little to no advocacy and no 'movement' for the sick and/or elderly. And, due to our worsening health, much based on neglect (or worse) by medicine and this country in general, it gets harder each day to advocate for ourselves. I bought into the lie that retirement would be peaceful and relaxing, filled with family, fun and travel. This is not true for most, and definitely not if you are chronically ill. Because I am divorced, I am also pretty much alone. I live in senior housing that is barely maintained. NO ONE cares about the people who live here, including the people who live here. I am in dire need of dental work, but because I have Medicare, I do not have dental insurance. I do not want a Medicare Advantage (lol...don't you just love the names picked for these programs that are essentially big businesses) plan because I do not need to have my health care managed. I do, however, need access to honest, decent medical and dental care. I suffer daily through no fault of my own. I do not feel safe or protected in this country where I paid taxes for more than 44 years. I am basically just waiting to die. It has been my experience there is no reward for doing good or doing the 'right thing'. Hopefully, God is real and the reward of existing in a loving, peaceful way will come in the afterlife. I know it is not going to happen for me in this one. PS. As proof that the elderly do not have access to justice, I point you to what Gov Cuomo did (and got away with) in NYS nursing homes. Many residents died from COVID, reportedly due to his orders. I am personally aware that, in the mid-Hudson Valley there sat a fully equipped (for COVID patients) gymnasium that had been retrofitted to take in 100 COVID patients and had the capacity to add an additional 100 beds (for a total of 200.) Approx one to two miles from this gymnasium, there sat a completely empty (of patients, not beds and equipment) hospital that was scheduled for renovations that had not yet begun. In addition, a military hospital ship sat in the harbor of NYC and it was reportedly never used so it left NYC. So, WHY did so many elderly get sent to nursing homes (without being tested to see if they were still COVID positive) to recover? Its spread was like wildfire. IMO, these residents were murdered, yet cuomo remains governor of NYS. This, to me, shows exactly the level of care and compassion this country has for its elderly. Where is the outrage? Am I alone in thinking this is a disgrace?
Yes and it takes no account of the fact that older people have to start again somewhere I've had many jobs and most of them only last a few years before the company closes or things change too much. The pension age keeps going up and it leaves many people in limbo knowing they are better than the people that are hiring. It's not always possible to develop a career that goes with age and the reality is that if you haven't got things together by 45 with a retirement plan....the work world can hire youngsters only....bottom line is you are over the hill in your mid thirties in some types of office and hospitality work etc
Dont worry, you are not alone. We are on the same boat and I think we are many. God sees us, believe me our number will make God make a way for us. After all he is our Father.
Yes, and what do you do about it? Prayer without action usually doesn’t solve the issue. Self employment is the only answer I have found. This isn’t a solution for all people.
I've tried to make friends online, and I'm really afraid to tell them, because everyone just stops talking to me, or they tell me, 'go get friends your own age.' But i can't they're too immature because I know when I'm their age... im never gonna judge people for their age :( I just want friends, they want to be my friend... until i tell them my age, it's like they only accept your if your in high school :(
Am also a victim of ageism....I was laid off in this covid time....am struggling to get a job....I used to proudly highlight my 14 yrs of experience on my resume...I think now it's a curse ...today's young generation feels uncomfortable we being around the team...this generation was build up on the foundation that we laid on..and its same for us too.we have compassion and empathy, which this generation lacks....
How can I take advantage of the skilled workforce who are older than 45? I think there is a distinct market for a firm that has a culture built around knowledge and mentorship and good decision making.
Age has no baring on who you are and what you are capable of in life,Our greatest leaders and finest inventors were over 65..Many today are young in older bodies ,meaning they don't stagnate or wrinkle, their brains have fast processors and good long term and short term memory..Age is not who they are, they are the exceptional transparent driven, who have no barriers and move right through the stigma and the social rule book because they can and they will out last and out perform the set ignorant needing approval from the two headed heards..of the oxy proxy morons..The next time you hear someones age remember you don"t know them nor have you met them..DNA,how you abused yourself and intake mind body and spirit determines what you will be like..Your resilience ,pliability and love ..will set you apart from the old people ))!
How about this? Let’s put a proposal on a ballot in one of these states to initiate the concept from the movie Logan’s Run. When someone grows above the age 35, just take the man or woman out and put them out of their so called misery. I am being sarcastic and not serious but I just want to put that in case someone takes my post too seriously. Age discrimination kind of feels like the professional and business worlds version of Logan’s Run. It’s wrong and just because someone gets to a magical age they are retired and put out to pasture.
It's strange. We are in a world where most people are aging...From now until 2070 or later most people will be older...will that mean discriminating against MOST people?
I hate to put this out there but many people do not know that they have another option. Dropping out and moving to a much cheaper country and trying to do some remote work is a real option. I live in a spacious 3 bedroom townhouse for $400 that is near the beach. A nice 1 bedroom is $180. I have good internet for $30 a month and cable tv with HBO and ESPN for $9 a month. The point is you can live pretty well on just 2K a month and many expats live on 1K or less. Car insurance is $70 a year. It is $10 to see the doctor or dentist. You don't have to stress about money. And there is very little ageism here. You can be over 60 and date 20 year olds (if you are foolish) and no local thinks ill of you. The bad news is you are half way around the world. But is the US today really a good place to live for those over 55?
Don't those who hire you for remote work know your age tho? You still going to have to work for the US. 2k a months is a larger salary for Southeast Asia.
I have to be the devils advocate and say, Maybe (just maybe) you need to reinvent yourself. Ageism cannot be solely blamed for you NOT getting a job ... sorry. *My grandfather reinvented himself many times 💯
Yes, if you are financially sound and can retire at 45-50. What privileges? It is depressing to be judged on a physical characteristic rather than ability. This applies to anyone discriminated against.
I wouldn’t let the fact that he’s older bother him to the point of being emotional. There’s nothing anyone can do about aging. If you’ve got valuable skills it’s good to market them in the best way to put you in a role that will balance your lifestyle, and work ethics. I realize I might not be in my direct field of work, but I know something more mature, and not too stressful will do just fine.
That's stupid, they do not need to have your jobs, they need to qualify for the kind of job you have before they can find jobs, it's sad to see people worry more about age instead of abilities and qualifications. Don't worry, you'll get a job, I know it
they will ask yr age, say you can't keep up without even a trial run. even laugh at you. tried to find a job in raleigh nc for over 6 years, with a 30 r solid work history. the yt creators are just as insulting.
I hate to say it, but the man looking for work is 50 years old, frumpy looking, living in NYC, and an event planner. He needs to move to somewhere more rural to get hired because, in NYC, they are looking for event planners that are young and hip.
Blue zones shows us another world then the cold ageistic one. My power is the God of love and I believe we can do many things. Ageism is a child of Materialism. I will buy te book of madam Ashton Applewhite
Another thing. Sexual assault isn't taken as seriously once you're over the age of 18. I understand that there are more legal charges with child rapists as it's another illegal action added, but let's pretend paedophilia isn't illegal. Assault is assault & it affects everyone just as badly no matter the age. So it should be taken as seriously instead of just fannying around. Even other people who aren't police don't take you seriously when you're 18+ because "you might be lying".
Thank you for posting this. While underage sexuall assault is important, I also believe that sexual assault is just as damaging at any age and should be paid attention to no matter what age! Please ignore the dude who apparently has nothing better to do than be rude.

Indeed, society is obsessed with youth! What is wrong with that? Youth means health and vibrancy. Old age means mortality, dispair, dependence, misery.
Sad to read this. Those perceptions are a part of the problem. You don’t magically stop enjoying life when you turn certain age and growing old is a part of a human nature even though it’s stigmatised by the society. If if you take care of your health you can still be “vibrant” at old age. The society is so obsessed with youth because of the message sent by all of those beauty companies, fashion industry etc who add up to the anxiety of ageing to profit from it. According to their sick standards people who are not even halfway through their expected life span are considered old. I really hope that you will change your mind as you grow older and realise it’s all BS. I also hope that when that happens, the society will embrace the natural process of ageing instead of putting unnecessary pressure on people or shaming them for something no one can control.
So odd that you use argumentum ad hominem yet your motivation for doing so is rooted in a distaste for trump who many dislike for his alleged use of similar logical fallacies. You're special ;)

For 13 /hr. At 46
@@sashabrown6043 The good news is that you are working towards a goal. Once you get the bachelor's a lot of new doors will open for you!

the irony is that 18 year olds will be 40 adn have the same shit said to them haha
Karma .
That's what I always wonder when I see young people making fun of people who are older. You have to be seriously lacking in the self awareness department to do that, do they not know that they themselves are getting older every single day, or do they plan on dying soon or something?
Young people usually don't think about getting old. They seem to think they'll be young forever.
Old is a personality trait, not an age
@@AprilBytheBay he's just talking about the people he works with
it also affect younger people when people tell you your too young enough too do this and that older people controlling our lives & don't let us have a choice of our own
I worked for 44+ years until I, unfortunately, became a victim of medical malpractice.
This is why I want to just start my own business. This is horrible
I've tried to make friends online, and I'm really afraid to tell them, because everyone just stops talking to me, or they tell me, 'go get friends your own age.' But i can't they're too immature because I know when I'm their age... im never gonna judge people for their age :( I just want friends, they want to be my friend... until i tell them my age, it's like they only accept your if your in high school :(
I think Ageism should stop! Ya'll just watch Morpheus ASMR!~
Damn we really do live in a society

How can I take advantage of the skilled workforce who are older than 45? I think there is a distinct market for a firm that has a culture built around knowledge and mentorship and good decision making.
"my other knee doesn't hurt and it's just as old" 😂😂😂
We should be free from the old, but we should not oppress the old. And also the other way around.
You really need to give this publicity.

Work in the Bay Area is like Carousel in "Logan's Run".
I can relate 55 here.
Karma is powerful!!!!
I have to be the devils advocate and say, Maybe (just maybe) you need to reinvent yourself.
Ageism cannot be solely blamed for you NOT getting a job ... sorry.

So naive, John. No way in hell I will jump through hoops to fit into someone's idea of the perfect worker (under 40, toned and easy on the eyes).
What's wrong with ageism?
When we become old,we will enjoy the privileges 😎
Yes, if you are financially sound and can retire at 45-50. What privileges? It is depressing to be judged on a physical characteristic rather than ability. This applies to anyone discriminated against.

It's nice to see old people get their age discrimination reversed on them your age doesn't give you the right to discriminate against people
25 might check into a retirement home soon
I wouldn’t let the fact that he’s older bother him to the point of being emotional. There’s nothing anyone can do about aging. If you’ve got valuable skills it’s good to market them in the best way to put you in a role that will balance your lifestyle, and work ethics. I realize I might not be in my direct field of work, but I know something more mature, and not too stressful will do just fine.
if you're homeless just buy a house

This video was created to highlight the discriminatory attitude you so arrogantly display.
If he shaved off the beard and mustache it would make him look younger.
You don't have to worry about sexual assault, since you're not attractive enough anyway.
