I'm pretty sure they were given only about 3 hours to make this video. They were on tour and had to rehearse as well, but the staff came up with the brilliant idea of making their own mv. The lyrics are worthwhile reading, chiding young people for demanding so much of their parents, to buy them the newest and best of everything (the shoes, the padded jackets), so that their parents have to work so hard that they break their backs.
When my father passed away my good friend sent me a note, "all your dad ever wanted was to provide for you and the family." He did it so that is commendable." This message gave me solace.
Fun fact: they actually turned the “lets just do it” choreo of spine breaker into a live performance choreo! Since then they performed spine breaker with same jackets nd choreo till date! Obviously with the same fun mood too😂
If you understand the meaning behind the song, this mv is actually pretty accurate. Its a satire on young kids who break their parents backs demanding things they can't afford just because their friends have it.
Oh yessss Spine Breaker is def a fan favourite. The absolute best part about it all is Jin's inspired choices of those jackets, sunglasses wardrobe and his epic dance choreo made it all the way to this day - just recently (well, before pandemic recently...) they performed Spine Breaker live with those same jackets sunglasses and dance moves xD absolute masterpiece. If you read the lyrics much more scenes make sense too!
Bts also made a sketch where they acted, and V was the director , Jimin as Stand by & timer, Jungkook as Slate, Jin responsible for Props, J-Hope as stylist, RM as Mentality care , Suga was responsible for Snaks, you should really check it out, it's called Dalbang dorm, they made a proper short drama with the equipments and all I am sure you are going to love it
Hi Alex, so for you to know: BTS GAYO was a weekly variety show the boys did in 2015-2017, that you could watch for free on VLIVE. Nowadays, they have another online variety show called RUN BTS! that airs a new episode almost every Tuesday through Weverse (an app developed by their company) and VLIVE as well, also for free! It's super fun, they do a bunch of different games and activities, every episode being something new, very recommended to watch if you wanna know deeper the boys personalities and dynamic outside the music aspect! (I know you're a reactor focused on film making, but just for the fun of it, I actually would like to see you react to one episode of RUN BTS! someday) But anyway as always, thanks for your reaction!
The song was a satirical slap on face, to those youngsters who have been blinded by the glamour and keep demanding, the expensive and trendy stuff, from their parents, just to feel in league with and satisfy the stereotypes of rich class. They keep demanding without realizing that their parents have to work so hard just to provide them basic necessities, sometimes they even work double jobs. In the long run when the work so hard, these demands break their spine. In short the trendy and expensive products are basically spine breaking material that ignorant kids demand from their parents without realizing the aftereffects.
This homemade mv is so fun, but my favorite performance of spinebreaker are the live ones from Muster that are inspirer by this mv. They wear the same jackets, and they have a camera on stage that they use to film each other during the performance, passing it along to each member 😅 Also in general i love love love this song, and the lyrics are really good!
I was going to say that too. JK films always seem to have a muted color. I just assumed it’s his style cause I can always tell when he shoots something.
the meaning of the song is so deep and is a social critic song so i love how they made the mv a bit goofy to make it lighter and get across the message behind it in a more satirical and comical way.
Spine breaker actually has pretty deep lyrics I feel like the lighthearted and cheeky nature of the mv just makes it even more dark after u read it as what is showing on screen is different from the meaning which kinda reflects the song's nature as well(?) Like a spine breaker kid who steals their parents hard earned money to act like "a rich cool kid "just to fit in, like what they show is different from what is behind it . The faded colour also kind of adds to the pretending to be rich but isnt in reality vibe perhaps, the colours aren't vibrant flashy and bold and the overall way the mv is filmed is not the most professional which is why I think the whole thing just works it almost has "a kid filming himself pretending to be cool" tone to it lmao but ofc this is just my personal interpretation
*COLDPLAY's "MY UNIVERSE" MV featuring BTS MV will be releasing soon.* Release date is not revealed yet. *Coldplay have confirmed that Dave Meyers will be directing the official music video for "My Universe". Some of his latest work includes Coldplay’s “Higher Power,” Ed Sheeran’s “Bad Habits” and “Positions” by Ariana Grande!*
remember this was just an episode for a variety show, so tons of footage was cut! what looked like 15 minutes of MV shooting to us was them spending a couple hours on it. So they actually took multiple takes of each scene (unless it really was perfect the first time). Also reminder, this was supposed to look like a very funny and homemade type of music video, more like simply a "video" than an official music video
a "conditioner" doesn't keep people on track exactly, it's more like keeping the mood high and caring for mental health on set. also a lot of idols have classes on this sort of thing so it makes sense that they know a lot!
Sometimes I really wonder that they are the same guys who were inspiring the world 😂 I mean they just gave a super speech in the UN general assembly. I stan these normal boyz 😂 lol
Yes, Spine Breaker homemade MV captures the essence of BTS spirit, wit and creativity. The slapstick mode really suits the satirical content of the song. Love how they unanimously saw its potential, and how Jin would be the perfect stylist and choreographer for it! 🤣🤣🤣
if my memory serves me well they only had like a couple of hours to do an MV on the spot as a challenge. so considering they they are not professional directors or what not, I really think they pull it off with a funny and entertaining MV 🤭 thank you for being so kind with them😊
Conditioner is actually something they have in their own company. It's not someone who yells rather It's the person who makes sure everyone is in right condition mentally and physically.
there is a RUN BTS episode when they did a little drama, they are as the production team and the artist as well. but i forgot which eps, i'll be back when i find it
For better understanding on the whole concept of the MV, tru to check out the Spine Breaker Explanation by DKDK tv. It sounds to quirky for a song but it has a deep meaning
One of my favourite MVs and one of the most interesting lyrics too!! I hope you check out the lyrics and it's context (it makes some references to Korean society but otherwise it's easy to generalize and understand the content matter. It is relevant anywhere.). Thank you for reacting to Spine Breaker!
U might notice whenever they do vlive or behind the scene etc.... they just talk amongst themselves and forget we are even here. It's chaotic but we love it cos it is genuine and unscripted.
Imagined how busy bts always. Even after or before concerts, they always insert time to do task like vlive, run bts, gayo shooting s, etc. But as you can see they still managed to have fun regarding their tough schedules
They have several shows running, the longest is Run BTS (in episode number). Bangtan Gayo, as a mock of the super popular music show Ingigayo -- popularity here we go!? kinda translation, but usually seen as "popular trend/popular music/song", they usually take care of music-related stuff, either guessing popular songs or choreos or something related to their music (like what song army likes most and in which order). :) PS. it is read as the a in "car" in Boston accent and "yo" similar to "jo"(sephine), and a sound between k and g (they are technically the same but still). So carjo? xD (sorry I am not even a native English speaker, but I tried!)
I'm so glad you reacted to this even though they only really did it for fun 😂 It's nice hearing your thoughts especially because a lot of people (including me) who take interest in production/film start of with these kinds of home videos as kids. Learned a lot and will anticipate future videos! ✨
What you said of Jimin's role is so funny bc he was the Prod Director on their album BE and his role was... to yell at everyone when they were late with their songs or lyircs lol
Not only this was a fan favourite music video... the BTS members themselves labelled the video as "If u don't say Spine Breaker as your fav, then you're not BTS member"..or something like that. Even in 2021 they still referenced the Spine Breaker dance in Run BTS. Although the song might sounded funny, it is actually social commentary song, about how young people keep on asking money or expensive things (like a padding jacket referenced in the song) from their parents without thinking about the cost.
this song and this mv is one of the songs I first listen to when I just started discovering BTS. I saw them perform this in one of their concerts and I was really curious about this song because they had fun messing around on stage with this one. Then I realized later that this has a deeper meaning and message …. so good.
Alex paused to read the instructions… I never pause when watching run BTS instructions and I just enjoy the chaos. Who else doesn’t understand those instructions?
I hope you enjoy it.. the lyrics are actually meaningful, when you get time to read over them. I loved this challenge and the mv shot on the fly with what they had. It was while they were on tour and I'm sure pressed for time, but to me it was a great way for them to just have fun.
10:40 Our BTS did everything at their Hotel room and Flur during their Chile Tour Concert 19:50 You have to read the lyrics, it is about social issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every their moves, clothes funny scene matched to their lyrics!!! They did it just for fun, and But It is legendary deep song and MV ,which is made within 15 minutes!!!!!!!!! ONly BTS can do this
We did get various great memes from this 😂 it's amazing how they can make such fun sounding (and looking) songs with actually very meaningful lyrics, Anpanman would be another good example
18:54 I'm not sure if anybody answered your question about this, but when you go to Korean No-rae-bang (karaoke) you see some low-quality, vhs-esque screen images like this as a title page of most lyrics video. Random scenery shots with this specific font and the color scheme are typical of those lyrics videos at Korean Noraebang. I'm sure they inserted this at the beginning as a self-deprecating joke to make a point that this is nothing serious and just to have fun.
I really hope you looked up the lyrics of this song. firstly, they're iconic. secondly, the mv makes so much sense when you know why they chose some of those insert shots.
idk man I know this was a huge joke but something about their flashy jackets on regular clothes, the foolish gestures and strange choreo against a posh backdrop... something about all this just goes so PERFECTLY with the sound and message of the song. ironically, bangtan created something fucking fantastic here lmao????
Hey, would be great if could you check "Dalbang Dorm". To put you in context, the guys had to do something similar to what they did here, but instead of a Music Video it was more like a short film. Everyone had an assigned role, it was really funny and would be great if you could explain how each role would work in a real filming. If you want to check it, the final short starts at minute 16:14 of episode 76 of Run BTS. All the behind the scenes footage is in episode 75 and the first part of 76! you're doing great Alex, keep going!!! ♡
I'm pretty sure they were given only about 3 hours to make this video. They were on tour and had to rehearse as well, but the staff came up with the brilliant idea of making their own mv. Their concert performances of Spine Breaker are also a gem - that is the most iconic choreography ever 🤣

I'm pretty sure those jackets are Chanel which makes it even more hilarious. lol.
spine breaker is THE song where they can truly just have fun and let loose wherever they are!
The opening vhs shot is basically what you would see at a karaoke bar when a song starts :)
the lyrics are actually really meaningful despite it being so fun in the MV lol, there is a dkdktv explained video of it ^^
