Having the ability to criticize one's own government and history is one of the ultimate expressions of American patriotism...our founders strived for a peaceful system with the capability for reformative change built-in and with the rights to the processes of such change guaranteed.

I came here to post similar. I've never understood people who consider it unpatriotic to criticize the government in any way. I would argue that it is MORE patriotic to try and improve the great (but certainly imperfect) country we live in to strive toward "a more perfect union", than to sit back and proclaim that the US is #1, can do no wrong and turn a blind eye to injustices, poor policy, or outright wrong-doing. Citizens can (and should) work to right wrongs while still feeling proud, standing during the national anthem, and celebrating our country. You CAN do both!!!!

I don't care for Watch Mojo either, but it's not the end of the world. On the languages, it depends. Spanish is the most common language besides English, but in areas with more languages you will encounter them routinely. My city seeks translation services for (and prints in) about 130-160 languages in an average year, in other areas it may be just one or two.
There is an Amharic radio station (Ethiopia) in my area as well as a Korean news paper, a Spanish television station, and [you get the idea]. Restaurant menus are oftentimes in English, the language of the owner or the food's culture, and Spanish. Most businesses have signs and advertising in their windows in English, Spanish, and often the more common languages of that neighborhood. Even at protests and organized events there are usually multiple translators either on the PA or in the crowd speaking loudly so people can gather close and hear them, it's quite the experience when that happens.
And this is normal! And i love it 😊.

Regarding the 'patriotic' part, I think what the narrator is trying to say is that there is a significant portion of the population that doesn't feel the need to fly the US flag 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or yell and scream about America being 'the best!'. We will indeed argue loudly among ourselves.
BUT.....that is not the same as how quickly we will coalesce if we are attacked. This is the lesson that some people outside the country do not fully grasp about our national character, in my opinion.
And if you are interested in a US road trip, Portugal is about the same size as Indiana, if that helps

Many people think that patriotism means things like flag waving and exclaiming how great America is and getting angry with people who say that America has social equity problems that need to be addressed. Yet these same patriots live with hate for other Americans. True patriots genuinely love America and Americans, and work to make our laws more equitable and lives better for all Americans. True patriots reject hate, bigotry, racism and all the ways we ourselves bring our nation down. True patriots have a vision of how America should be and that America could actually become the greatest nation on Earth. I am aware that this sentiment is very unpopular among many people and I am sure I will be hearing from some of them. Bring it on.

  • @LisaApril

Cowboys are actually people who herd cows on horses. Sometimes they put the cows in trucks and take them to different pasture far away to get fresh grass. Cowboys are always near large herds To move them but also to protect them with guns. I think there were more horse riders in the old west because there were no cars and everyone rode horses or had horses pull carriages. The settlers who went west to settle the west coast usually brought very strong animals like oxen to pull their wagons and then they use them to plow the fields once they made it. But of course animals died on the way. Now even if someone does not have any cattle they’ll wear cowboy boots and a big hat because it’s the culture of the area. Not every cowboy has a lot of cows, Because they’re just wearing boots and a Stetson but don’t have any cows.

As an American I find it interesting to see what other people think of us or about us and watching videos like yours is one way to do that. I'm not a 'patriotic' person in that over-the-top, chanting "USA, USA" type of person. There are things America has to be very proud of and there are things we should not be proud of. I do believe that speaking out when you think your country is in the wrong is about the most patriotic thing you can do. It comes from a place in the belief that you can and should be better. Unfortunately, it seems that the 'patriotic' American has become a caricature.

As someone who’s lived in montana her entire life, the only time I’ve ever seen a menu in Spanish here was in a Mexican restaurant, literally next to the English version. Montana is over 90% white. It was even more so when I was a child. As much as I love it here, outside of the “big” cities and tribal lands, there unfortunately is a lack of diversity.

The statement that wealth is not evenly distributed is just true. 66.6 percent of the total wealth in the United States was owned by the top 10 percent of earners. 11.4% of Americans live in poverty, 12 million of those are children. Wealthier cities are closer to the oceans, and in the planes and central states families live far apart from each other. Fast food is more commonly the diet in smaller cities and towns whereas large cities have more variety of fresh food either in takeaway or sit down restaurants. American obesity is not only tied to fast food, abundant snacks, sugary desserts but to a sedentary lifestyle of movies, video games, driving instead of walking to everything, and over stimulus of entertainment and distraction. The life in America is fantastic if you make it that way. Life can be absolutely misery just as easily. The best part of this country is the diversity. Options in food, housing, transportation, entertainment, culture.. just tidbits of every country and culture in a big melting pot. I have heard you saying that you want to visit Texas and New Orleans and Florida. Montana is very far away from those. I hope you do visit. We have so much to explore.

He was correct in that Americans lack of travel and cultural experience which Europeans look down upon - is all about the cost. It is too expensive for most to travel abroad no matter how much they would like to have the experience. Also as someone else mentioned - the lack of free time. We have no law that requires an employer to give vacation time to the workers, we are lucky to get a week or two off each year.

  • @bacca1990
    @bacca1990 หลายเดือนก่อน

I will also say this about Americans traveling: we only share borders with two other countries - Canada & Mexico. In the US, people live hours away from other states, making it hard to visit, let alone visiting our international neighbors. Going further abroad than Canada & Mexico is a lot more time and money.
Basically, our states are the size of other countries. Some people are very well traveled within the states which would be equivalent to being well traveled within Europe size wise. Americans probably also average (it depends on your employer and time in employment usually) 18 paid days a year (paid leave and paid holidays) compared to totals (paid leave & holidays from what I can find online) in the Uk's - 30, Ukraine - 37, Switzerland - 27, Sweden - 34, Spain - 36, Slovakia (35), Russia -34, Romania -37, Portugal - 31, Norway - 35, etc. We don't have a lot of time off and many people prioritize those days for family events or emergencies. Extensive traveling is usually not on the radar unless you take unpaid leave and can weather the drop in your paycheck. Teachers though have most of the summer off so I know many of them travel.

Since printing a menu is a business expense, a restaurant would print a menu in more than one language if it made business sense. "Does the business it brings in cover the expense of printing." would be a question a restaurant would ask in deciding whether or not to print the menu in more than one language.

It's as International as New York or Los Angeles but it's also just as American. Fun fact, Miami is the only city in America to be founded by a Woman, Julia Tuttle, July 28th 1896. btw I just posted this as you mentioned if Mojo sticks it to America once in a while, Americans stick it too each other all the time, it's not one monolithic country of agreed ideology and politics (as is probably obvious). Regarding the Spanish speakers, like you mentioned we are everywhere but you can see larger concentrations in specific states like Florida, Texas, Arizona, Pennsylvania, California and New York. We're kind of stuck on this continent over here and the prospect of flying across the Atlantic or the Pacific Ocean to get to another country is prohibitedly expensive. I've had the good fortune to see Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Ireland.

Plenty of American TH-camrs and their followers are well aware of the following. The price of their healthcare is ridiculously high. The average American worker is overworked and underpaid by companies who couldn't care less about their well-being. No matter how sick you're feeling, the boss will probably call you to try and make you feel guilty for not being able to work. Another reason Americans have a hard time travelling overseas is that even if they get a couple of weeks of vacation time. It's highly unlikely that it's paid vacation time. The food quality standards in general are pretty shameful in general, that's why many European countries have banned quite a lot of it. From harmful artificial additives to the over the top amounts of sugar they put in things. For instance their bread has six times as much sugar and they add the same chemical that they use to make yoga mats. I'm not trying to knock America, I'd love to visit some time. But I'm grateful to be living in Australia.

Ah I see all the propaganda is still getting around just fine. Yes healthcare cost is high but that is because we have the best doctors and nurses (who are paid very well) and also have the most technologically advanced systems that provide the best outcomes for serious diseases like cancer and heart disease. We have virtually no wait times for our treatment. I live an hour away from and can use a world renowned facility that Saudi princes go to for treatment (the Mayo Clinic). 94% of Americans are covered by insurance and the vast majority are happy with it. I love the constant harping on US healthcare when the reality is the rest of the world ISN'T EVEN CLOSE to what we have available to us.
As for pay and work conditions, you simply have to look it up. The poorest 20% of Americans have the same purchasing power as the average citizen in most other Western countries. All the whining about sick time etc.. you see on social media is done by unskilled Gen-Zers (usually women) who are used to laying about all day in college. The fact is the US is the best place for someone starting out from nothing to make something of themselves, which is why the US houses 40% of the world's millionaires and billionaires (80% being 1st generation).
As for food standards, we have this thing called "choice" in the US. We are free to eat as healthy or as unhealthy as we want. We have federal AND state regulations in many cases for food safety, unlike other countries, which only have one layer of protection. Europe loves to ban things and make their citizens lives as miserable as possible, but I guess if that's your thing, more power to you. I prefer to have a CHOICE.

A lot of Americans make bucket list items of visiting each state or each National Park.
International travel to Europe, Asia, Africa or anywhere else is very expensive for the average American. The flights start around $800 USD, and can get as high as $2,500 USD per person… Passport’s are around $100.00, with application and photo. The average American can’t afford a $400.00 USD emergency expense right now. International travel just isn’t feasible for a large number of Americans. And that’s just the expense, they don’t really mention that most Americans really only get 10 days of paid vacation, excluding paid holiday, a year and you’d have to use every minute of it on an international trip.

And no, you are not going to find cowboys all over the country. Anyone trying to pass themselves off as a cowboy in rural Connecticut or the Chicago area is going to be making an ass of themselves -- unless they are with a professional rodeo circuit passing through town.

The trouble with wanting to do a road trip is that it'd be like wanting to do a tour of Europe- unless you're basically going to just drive through every state and leave, it's going to take years to try and see everything. As the video says, people being overweight is often due to environmental problems, which means this country allows chemicals and toxins on our commercial crops and food, as well as a lot of toxic chemicals in boxed foods. A lot of US foods are banned from being imported to other nations all over the world because of it.
However, in the US there is no end to the variety, quality, and availability of every possible type, or culture of food choices here, day and night.
Just as with prescription drugs, Americans pay the highest prices for travel costs. No other nations in the world pay as much as Americans have to pay. We pay 70%+ more money for prescription drug costs, so the rest of the world can have cheap drugs. It is the same for travel. Besides, as you know, we have so much here there is really no need to go elsewhere. Your cost to get here and back home is probably 50% less than if I were already in Portugal and wanted to get to the US and back to Portugal. Because I am American, I will have to pay a much higher price. My ID card, passport, and home address mean everything. We are tagged with a massive searchlight to pay high prices. When the rest of the world criticizes us I always want to say, "Hey, don't you know that your technology, higher education, food, energy, vehicles, low medical and prescription costs, etc... ARE BECAUSE me and my family pay for you to have these equalizing privileges?" Of course, I do not say it because it is my distinct and honorable privilege to live in a nation that gives so much more than all other nations put together so the world can have a nice place to live. We aren't perfect, but only God can out-give us and it is in fact God Himself that has blessed us so. But who are we? We are people, from ALL over the world, every nation, that God gathered here so we could be a blessing to the world economically.
You will find multiple languages in every state, Spanish and French being the most used all over America, but in Houston, Texas; San Francisco and Los Angeles California you will even see a lot of street signs in multiple Asian languages. Houston alone has large populations from 83 nations that own their own part of the city. Chicago, Boston, New York, Miami, and Seattle all have high populations of other nationalities. But it is not only large cities. Very small cities all over this nation have such dense populations of other nationalities that their language is spoken more than English. There are cities in Maine and Louisiana that speak mostly French. There are cities in Texas that speak mostly German, Chinese, Spanish, or Slovakian. Texas has high populations of other nationals, well over 143 the last time I looked and most of those can be found in Houston. There are huge areas of the city that look like, shop like, and rent like other nations and the money from those nations can be used there and no street signs are in English. In all of the large cities, there are areas similar to this, but especially in Texas. It is like that all over this nation.
Look at the population of the islands and coastal areas of North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. We have nationalities that you have never heard of that have lived there and kept their original culture for 100s of years, since before this land became a nation. In these areas, it is the African Gullah or Gullah Geechee. Also, the Acadians in Louisiana and Texas. There are a lot of these small nationalities and cultures. The Dutch (German) that are settled all over and live separate, mostly called Amish. There are Scandinavians all over the northern parts of the US. Of course, we have very large Jewish population, of which I am a part and there are many cultural subsets of us, for instance, I am a Mizrachi Jew. Each of these has its own culture and its own cities or sections of cities within the US. And we cannot forget all of the sovereign nations of American Indians. There are 574 different sovereign nation indigenous tribes and they all have their own tribal lands. It is a great place we have here, and that is why everyone wants to live here and risks their lives coming here when they cannot afford it or cannot wait to do it legally. We have our current southern border crisis and in the 1970s through the 1990s Vietnamese crossed the Pacific in tiny boats to come here. TINY BOATS CROSSING THE HUGE PACIFIC! WHO DOES THAT? Lots of people, ever since the USA became a nation and before. Sorry for my long reply. Love your reactions to things American 🤩

He says researchers estimate that there's only 30% or so of people who own firearms. There are several others that have indicated that that number has been way off for many years. They estimate that up to 70% of the citizen's in the US own at least 1 firearm. How they figured this out is by the answers given to different questions. Just asking an American if they have a firearm will get a No answer because they don't want the government prying into their lives. They also fear the idea of the government having a list of who owns what. Top that off, the people they often ask are on a list of people they can call for polls, those people are often on the democrats. Democrats are more open to making changes and adjustments then Republicans, so they are often more open when it comes to answering these kinds of questions.
When it comes to the wars, its not so much about support of, but more so about wanting to help our people with the money we are dishing out. When I say help though, its more of a bringing down what we owe, so we can help others better. By our debt being so high it hurts everyone in every country.
A lot of people feel the reason for us being over weight is because of the differences in our foods. Like Coke... Most countries have Coke with real sugar vs high fructose corn syrup and all the other ingredients. Yeah, we all know sweats aren't good for you in large amounts, but when you add a lot of ingredients it can mess you up. So, when you are here, just eat less sweats or make sure you are reading what is in them so you can make sure you either work out more to burn it off, or eat less.
When I was younger we could go to Mexico and Canada without a passport.

The six states are: Hawaii, New Mexico, California, Texas, Nevada and Maryland. Washington, D.C. also is majority-minority by that definition. In addition, there are 11 more states where non-Hispanic whites are less than 60 percent of the population. This is approaching the percentage of white population (as opposed to black or mixed-race) in Brazil, which is 43 percent white.
