      Dix huit, French for 18, the number/name of the French Zeroid but (deliberately) mispronounced.

    I love the wild, barely-controlled power the Overlander exudes. The way it just barrels over everything, rocking and pitching and almost getting stuck or tipping over or snapping one of the linkages time and time again... it's visceral. Wanton. Almost primal. Compared to the neat, controlled action of cartoons which made up most of my entertainment as a lad growing up in the 80's, live action like this was brutally impressive. Every shudder, every piece that fell off, every collision, every displaced rock and shower of gravel spoke. Even more so when in slow motion. And somewhere in the back of your mind you always knew that there was an actual model getting smashed about making this, that people had taken so much time building. The destruction was REAL.
    Gods bless everyone behind this.

      Great compliments after all these years!!! The show was derided because of the puppets though..

      @@SB111058 Aye, shame that. People should have appreciated it for what it was. Zelda and the androids were terrifying. And some of the plots were incredibly mature; one of the early episodes basically pitted Mary's compassion against Ninestein's hard-nosed practicality, and Ninestein ends up being the one in the right... after shooting down someone who might've been an actual human. How often does that kind of thing make it into a show for children?! Everything taken together, it was fantastic, and the puppets were part of the charm.

      @@SB111058 that I did not know! Then thank you, sir, for your part in bringing this glorious thing into being.
      I'm curious now, how many complete Overlander models were there? I've seen an article on the construction which implied there was only one, but given the kicking it took I would have thought at least some of it would need backup parts? I saw that one was restored from a very sorry state and was in the hands of a private collector in Canada too, that suggested more than one...?

    • @SB111058
      @SB111058  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jackrylebonclaw7270 There was only one model made of jelutong wood which I admit we threw around a lot, the restoration of which is seen here davidsissonmodels.co.uk/overlander.htm which I think your referring to. It was my homage to all the tracked and multi-wheeeled vehicles in the past Gerry Anderson shows which inspired me as a kid.. I basically manually pulled the model along on a single wire as fast as I could and shot it 120 frames a second to slow it down.. Theres a similar vehicle in this.. th-cam.com/video/hbYExJLx0bo/w-d-xo.html

    The Zeroids had a legal implication to destroy the bridge and stop one of the monsters loyal to Zelda attacking the Terrahawks.
