- I think I found my new workout song! They're using one of my favorite words. DOPE! Plus, I love what BTS had to say in the song. It's all about working hard to achieve greatness. I can definitely respect that. I had fun listening to this one!

The part where RM raps about giving up on 3 and 5 is actually "a neologism in South Korea, referring to a generation that has given up on courtship, marriage & having kids". The number 5 adds employment & home ownership to the fray, made difficult by the stagnant economy, rising costs, societal changes, etc. 💜 Suggest "Not Today" next, strong beats & motivating msg (good for the gym too lol)
I also like to add that dope is also a message of hope or not to give up sortoff send... to these people. .. in any case the give up generation of give up went up 7 [add interpersonal relationship and hope] and then 10 [add health, physical appearance and life]...
Bapsae (aka silver spoon) is another song you might dig, it's about generational biases and societal ideals and stereotyping (bapsae is roughly translated to "crowtit" in Korean, a kind of bird similar to a small crow. Back in the day especially, the rich in Korea were referred to as "storks" and the poor/outside of accepted society were/are called crowtit aka bapsae). It's an underdog anthem. I love your reaction to dope btw I'm in college currently and it's the song I play when I'm cramming lol it's seriously motivating. People have explained the costumes kind of but I saw one before that explained the guys chose those particular ones because those might have been career paths if the music thing didn't work out but it still would have required the same mindset to be successful even in a different walk of life.

The outfits represent all the hardworking people out there, who put in time and are mostly underappreciated. I appreciate you noticing that their lyrics aren't fluff. Some of their songs SEEM silly and fluffy, but the lyrics are often far deeper and make some sort of social commentary. For example:
- Go Go - silly lyrics that seem to speak on living up a carefree life, in reality, is them mocking that type of short-sighted mentality of live today, don't worry about tomorrow, with no plans or prospects for future posterity when the fun and games end
- Anpanman - seems child-like, singing about the world's weakest superhero, Anpanman, who is a superhero made of sweet red bean bread - but he literally gives pieces of himself, weakening himself, to feed others who are hungry - telling the world that you don't need super powers or fancy cars to be a hero to someone, all it takes is kindness and generosity
- Spinebreaker - cheesy music video they made themselves for fun while staying in a hotel - in reality, it denounces fads and the Korean school system for allowing it to become a part of children's lives to the point that they demand their parents keep them in the latest fashion so as not to get picked on at school, making the parents work overtime, breaking their parents' spines to get items that aren't necessities
Oh, an important thing to note: BTS songs are almost never about significant others, or romantic love. There are a couple here and there, but, for the most part, when they mention relationships at all, they're usually much deeper, and more about the idea of a relationship, rather than a specific relationship. When females show up in their music videos (which is rare), they're usually there to represent another member, or even ARMY (because they do make songs directed specifically to their fans all the time).

Ya you're right, at that time Exo was another group who was doing school concepts. And since bts was from a small company they get bashed for that.

This song is just pure motivation to keep going and pursue your profession. It may not be as deep as other BTS songs but it has a message. I really like some of the lines in the lyrics like the... "I was working hard while you were clubbing" and the implications of some lines like "you all work for me" like I'm your manager or I'm your boss now because I spent all that time working when you were slacking off. I especially like RM's verses. I sincerely hope DT Parker that you are pacing yourself and not overextending yourself on reaction videos, that you are genuinely enjoying this. It's easy to get burnt out or feel like you need to act like you enjoyed something when you just weren't feeling it or whatever the case maybe. You seemed different in this reaction,some things sounded like sarcasm though maybe you were just tired. But I hope you don't push yourself and keep it honest with your followers.
Honestly, I'm enjoying your journey with these guys, you seem like you're actually interested in the message they are putting out there, and to us ARMYs that's very much appreciated.
I hope you'd get more in-depth with the BU storyline too.

This is the first BTS song I ever saw and what got me into them initally. So happy to see you explore them and get to know them!
4:17 I mean yes they are absolutely amazing and stellar at their artistry and job, but they are not perfect, they have spoken about this a lot. It’s good to understand that they do have weaknesses and places that need improvement, just like everyone else. Thinking that they are all perfect can put a burden on them and create a false image for them, not saying that you are doing anything extremely wrong, I just wanted to bring this up.

I'm really glad I found your channel--it's cool to see you grow in your understanding and appreciation for BTS! I'm sure you've probably been educated by now, but just in case....BTS was a breath of fresh air when they debuted, and won several Rookie and New Artist awards. However, they received a LOT of hate from the public. Why? A lot of reasons, honestly, but one major one was because they threatened the boy groups that were on top of the charts at that time. Fans of those groups didn't like it. And as BTS's support grew, and their album sales grew, so did the attacks against them.
Another YT reactor who was once involved in the music industry in South Korea says he knows the tactics that some of the larger entertainment companies would use to incite their fans against other groups (spreading hate hashtags, rumors, claims of plagiarism and copy-catting, even death threats), and he's positive those companies deliberately targeted BTS. Fortunately, BTS's loyal Korean fans and their growing base of international fans weren't swayed.
Just caught up on all your vids and just wanted to say how much I've been enjoying your reactions. You're a very thoughtful, curious person and those type of people aren't easy to find among reactors. Your angle of coming at BTS trying to understand why they were so popular was interesting to see, especially as you learned more and more and the picture became clearer for you. It's actually sort of how I found them as well. I saw tweets of them preforming at an LA stadium back in 2018 and was astounded at the crowd size and passionate reaction from a US audience. Spent the entire night on YT watching anything I could and have been ARMY ever since. BTS is so far outside my normal music taste (punk, hardcore, indie) and I know I am far from the only one with that story. There is just something really special about BTS' music and their ability to tell a story that it tears down barriers between all types of people.
Anyway, thanks so much for your wonderful reactions. I would love to see you dip further into their storyline and follow the story chronologically as it was presented because I think it's something you would really appreciate, but I understand if that is too big of an undertaking for you. I'll watch whatever it is you do.

BTS' lyrics are definitely a huge part of why their songs don't age for me like a lot of other pop songs. I love me some catchy fluff, I really do, but I'm done with it after a few weeks and looking for the next one. Knowing that BTS actually has something to say makes it effortless to listen to their songs day in and day out. They also manage to write mature lyrics without being vulgar. I'm not against a raunchy song but just like the fluff, I can only listen to it for so long.
Dope is one of my all time hype songs. It was also the first one where I tried to learn the choreo because it was so energic a few years ago but I quickly realized my place in the dancing realm lol

Love your commentary on this one. This is def one is my top bts songs. They’re wearing different outfits representing different occupations. What I take from this song is that they are spreading the value of hard work. It is a dope thing when you work hard, it is BTS style 💜💜

Just a "tiny" disagreement. It's not that they don't have weaknesses, they definitely do, and are very open about them. The thing with BTS though, they channel their weaknesses and insecurities back into their art. It is this very thing that makes them relatable, unique and authentic. They're not afraid to let us into their souls through their music, alternate universe and solo projects. They are not one-dimensional. Their songs usually have multi-layers of meaning to fit how we want them to fit, and through these layers, we are forced to look into ourselves honestly. They ARE pretty dope that way, lol. 💜💜💜
Most of BTS songs are very very inspirational and true stories. They tell their stories and speak their minds thru their music. And thats what made them stand out from the rest. Very good quality music, visual, choreography and everything else are just a bonus. Love your BTS reactions. Please keep em coming! :)

In 2014 Bts went to L.A for doing a show called American hustle Life, the went there to learn about Hip hop. The had 2 American teatchers, ToNy Jonsson and Nate Walker the also meet Warren G, Coolio and other fmous teachers. After 14 days the had there first concert in L:A it was for free

The third verse speaks to the challenges millennials face. It starts with RM (welcome! First time with BTS?) he hits on the societal pressure that they face in Korea and even worldwide. He starts by saying “given up on 3? Given up on 5?” In Korea they also refer to that as “three giving up generation” “five giving up generation” as life has become so difficult the millennials have quit trying to - finding love, marriage, having children (first three), now with unemployment at all time high for young people giving up on buying their own home and financial freedom due to underemployment and student debt.
He and suga are criticizing the older generation for looking down on them and their generation while creating the economic turmoil they are facing. They really try to embody their name “bulletproof” for us and empower us to stand against injustice 💜

As for new songs, Not Today has a music video that's interesting. Baepsae is fantastic, but no MV for that, just a choreo practice video (still great viewing, though!) On the more melodic side, I'll always recommend Blood Sweat and Tears and Spring Day for their beautiful videos and fantastic lyrics.

This is the video that made me ARMY. My all time favorite!! My daughter was hooked on their song and video "war of hormone" highly reccomend. Also "Not Today" is an awesome song.
It's not that BTS doesn't have any weaknesses, you know? Like, it's just that their weaknesses can all be seen on the surface, they always tell their fans that they are not perfect. I think that it just seems like they don't have any is because when you face your weaknesses, they become your strength, right? That's another reason why I really look up to them.

Hi DT So you're a Seattle boy eh, I'm not so far away, and yet worlds away, Vancouver B.C. I'm a pretty new BTS fan for life, since April when with the help of Halsey their song Boy with Love actually got radio play for 2 or 3 months. So I decided to look at the video for it, and was immediately captivated by their sheer artistry, hard work, beauty and on and on. I mean, they are just on a whole different level you know. The main point of my saying hi to you here though is to also recommend that you check out the BTS performance at the 2019 MAMA awards show (all 37 glorious minutes of it). Here's how much I love this. Hypothetically speaking here, but if I had to choose only one video/tv show/series/movie etc. This would be the one. I can't stress this enough, it's just that amazing. Also, side note, they did this performance really soon after learning that the Grammy awards would be snubbing them completely, with zero nominations. I'm sure this performance was planned and practised for months before but none the less the timing for BTS to come back with this is just so perfect. It's the biggest mistake the Grammys ever made, boy are they missing out. The amazing thing about BTS, well one of the amazing things, is that they just keep on getting better and better and they have spoiled me rotten with their talent. I actually want to learn Korean now, which still stuns me that I feel that way, but I really do want to learn, at least try to learn some anyway. Sorry for the lenghy post, I'm all jazzed up thinking about the concerts that are headed our way soon. So exciting. Ttfn

No one is always serious. They show their all sides, even that make them look like absolute dorks without shame. That is why they so relatable.

The outfits are representing alternative reality of their Bangtan universe
RM: wearing a uniform of Army branch after being so disrespected in many jobs.
Suga: firefighter, his character always try to commit suicide by burning himself.
JK: Police officer who protect the weak, his character always bullied.
Jimin: Office worker, a normal job after being under so much pressure that caused seizures.
V: Detective, his outfit looks alot like Conan the detective outfit which is a grown man trapped in a child's body, that's might be a nod for his suicide at the end of epilogue... but anyways the detective solve cases and his character killed his abusive father.
J-hope: Car racer, his character takes medications and drugs, this one replaced the drugs for the adrenaline rush of car racing.
And at the end Jin: who is a doctor, and his character goes back in time to try to fix the boys problems.
I hope this clarified the outfits choises.

This song isn’t just about them bragging and flexing, they’re bringing up a bunch of social issues with youth in Korea, and tbh everywhere in the world. They discuss these things a lot in other songs, but the most important would be Baepsae. It doesn’t have an MV, but it has a dance practice (which they just had fun with, making it a funny dance practice), and there is a Baepsae explained video by DKDK News that helps with all the Korean references that us internationals wouldn’t know, but helps understand it better.

Lol, welcome to ARMY. I was as surprised as you are when I found myself here (there?). They're all talented (to various degrees) and yeah, many of their songs ARE fluff but they also sing about many interesting and deep topics, that's why they have achieved such fame I'd say. They weren't an instant hit (they were from a very small - at the time - company) and many of their songs are kind of "diss" songs, letters to their naysayers. So they're full of fire. Mic Drop, Dope, are examples, yea.

Amen! You’d think, with the beat and the insane dancing, that they’re singing about inane things. But no...! At this stage, the groups songs are about the struggles of youth. Probably one of the main reasons why they exploded in the kpop music scene. The listeners identified with their songs’ messages.
쩔어 (dope) in korean means “to be drenched, soaked in sthg” and has also in the more modern times come to stand for something that’s “dope” in a good way, to be outstanding in some way.

Their cloth represent all worker that need a hard work all days (a police officer, a doctor, a pilot, an army, a speed racers, employes, etc)..they kind a say, they do the same like them in their music field coz every day they need to practice in studio Whether it's singing or dancin, so that they can sync due 12 - 16 hour a day.. and yes, most of their song has meaning lyrics not just bluf..even when theres a romance or balad one..

Hi DT Parker......I have watched all your videos for BTS and really enjoyed all of them. These young men are just the best there is as a group....I just Love them all...my Granddaughters boyfriend asked me who is my Bias and I said " How can you choose? " they all have such different personalities etc. I guess you will find that out when you watch some of their funny videos...like Jungkook imitating his Hyungs ( older brothers or close as brothers in this case ) or RM being done with BTS. You should look into rap line's cyphers 1-4, Ddaeng/Ddaeng explained by a Korean and each members solo works. (RM has RM and Mono, Suga has Agust D (Agust D 2 is about to drop soon, Suga is just waiting for Eminem to return his collab verse) and Hobi has Hope World. In the solo works they explore who they are and how they see the world rawly (but oh so beautifully!!!).
