Propaganda. A lot of Christians hadn't ever heard of him before he ran for office. I wouldn't have if I didn't read Brendan Manning's "Ragamuffin Gospel" which only mentions that he "is said to be lacking in grace" and never mentioned him again. Church proceeded to rewrite him to the point where if you quote Trump, they will go from telling you that he is definitely a christian, to telling you that you aren't a christian for using his language *for the purpose of quoting him*. They also didn't have the religious freedom, when he was in office, to say that adultery is a sin (and I saw this multiple times). Getting a democrat was the best thing for the souls of the Christians in America because we are at least allowed to say adultery is a sin when a dem is in office. Why? I don't know, but I saw it so many times.

When I was young I bought into the view that most of the world disliked Americans because they were loud, selfish and vulgar. As I grew up I changed my mind as I could see that a great number of Americans are truly wonderful people. Then along came Trump in 2016 and he peeled back the layers of civility to expose an extraordinary number of people who were indeed loud, selfish and vulgar and I finally saw why America had that reputation in the first place.

The voter ambivalence appears to be a NA attitude as both Canada & Mexico share similar voter turnout at their respective Federal elections. You look however at much of globe from SA, Asia, EU and you’ll find >80% voter engagement is commonplace, several exceeding 90%. Why the ambivalence in US elections? One could certainly argue it’s the awful quality of candidates but this has been an issue for over a century, though numbers showed significant decline following Nixon/Watergate.
There’s no simple answers I’m aware of but the current level of voter engagement has certainly empowered the extremist candidates and their supporters
