@@nastybastardatlive Dick Shawn was a fine actor. Y'know, he died on stage doing a mock political speech, collapsed from a heart attack after the line, "...and I will not lie down on the job."
He did a face-plant and lay face down for several minutes before anyone realized what had happened, and even then people at the concert thought it was just an act, even after the obituary in the newspaper the next day.

Which '62 did you buy? Did YOU grab that astonishing '62 Plymouth Savoy 2-door post for THREE HUNDRED SIXTEEN BUCKS (Lot Number 98)??? If so, I'm JEALOUS. That car was my other choice in a purchase from the Haynie Estate. I had plans for a nasty primer black, 513 Max Wedge powered street rat with vintage slicks, fender wall headers and no front bumper. I was also "about to" offer FIVE GRAND for that car too. But I realized shipping from Texas to Massachusetts could get as high as $2,500 PER CAR. Did you buy Lot Number 98???

I can remember growing up in New Rochelle NY where the PD had a similar car in Black with no markings. Power was a 383 4 barrel with dual exhaust. My cousin was the lucky cop who got to drive the beast. The city used it to patrol certain areas on the outskirts of town, thus the "no markings!" I can also recall getting pulled over by the NY State Police one night on the New England Thruway. The trooper was driving a 67 Chevy Biscayne with a 427/4speed police cruiser. So I can appreciate your Dodge and the police package option. Can't wait for updates and seeing what you're going to put under the hood! Thanks for the videos!

Once again, you are lucky all the wheels are accounted for, and I hope they are true as well, since they would be difficult to find replacements. And 15x6, that’s a size I could live with.

    • @SteveMagnante
      @SteveMagnante  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Hi James, yes those 15x6 "fleet wheels" are unique. According to my 1962 Dart Police Vehicle factory sales brochure, they were an extra cost option above the standard 14 inch rims and tires. Those, as you know, take an entirely different type of hub cap that snaps on. These "fleet wheels" take hub caps that clip on over five wire-steel tabs that are riveted to the spiders rather than pressed into the spiders. Its all in the details, right? THANKS for watching! -Steve

@@tpcdude , the easy way to find it is to look in the trunk. My 71 Fury had a 3/4" roof hole.

MY bud had that 62 Lancer in the boo right there back in highschool around 91 he paid $600 I think at a little dealership trade-in that was painted in "ZolaTone" paint like concrete grey bed liner stuff! Push button shift, slant 6, howling rear diff! I was an upgrade from his prior 73 Toyota Corona 3T-C but not on par with his current restored blue 68 RoadRunner and green 69 Charger RT/SE

I do not recognize that wheel. It is nothing like the one I had in my 62 dart back in 71.

I don't know that I would be throwing money at this car but I know you like cars on an esoteric level and are on a mission... As you well know given the new location those rust spots might need attention soon. Good Luck with it... I have a money pit too...

You didn’t mention the whip antenna clip on the gutter over the drivers door! Is there the accompanying hole or holes fro the antenna base??

The trade name for that particular heavy vinyl seat material is "Puke-N-Wipe."

It is strange that it has a 57 Plymouth steering wheel, but I do know that police agencies kept this particular wheel for many years because they required a white steering wheel, the last year available for an all white wheel at that time was 57, it's odd to see it in a 62 simply because the steering shaft on a standard 62 is 5/8 whereas the 57 is a 3/4

If I was you the first thing I would do is pull out the back seat. You might find something interesting. In ye olden days crims would sometimes hide things the police had not picked up when arrested. Actually occurred more than you would think. Also applies to old taxis. I used to drive cabs for a living many years ago and if it was a quiet night we would pull out the back seats to see how much loose change we could find.

Sometimes the factory hid the build sheet under the back seat. Those are the Holy Grail of information on the car.

Wondering if the constant sniffing is because you like sniffing old foam rubber and sand dust off the seats or maybe it's some other kind of dust.

I'll tell ya...YES I sniffle constantly. My doctor says it's "post nasal drip" and had me do a "scratch test" for triggers. I lit up every allergy source! My major triggers are red meat, dairy products and sugar. Those are the three food groups to me! That said, around the filthy interior of Buster the dart, I had a major attack. But we forge onward....THANKS for writing, Steve

Ahh I see. I guess I wondered cause I suffer from copd. And a mask really wouldnt work well being on camera. Wasn't trying to insult you. I have seen you on tv, and appreciate your knowledge of cars. I too enjoy checking out junkyards for all the different cars you can see. One such junkyard in my area, you might have actually heard of. It's gone, but it was on the coast of maine. Fellas name was "Johnny Monroe." He has since passed but he was well known in old car circles. Great guy. Features have been written about him. Now I feel I need to subscibe.

In 1962, I’m not sure that you would have had a cage in the back seat. Look on the roof for evidence of a light bar or just as likely a single bubble having been mounted at one time or another. Depending on what department operated that car in Texas, you may have some history to go with it.
