    There is no bounce back for Crowley, he's a class player and I think more is being made of this than what is actually happening. Crowley is still number 1. Prendergast and Frawley will be fighting it out for number 1 in Leinster. I believe Farrell is giving Prendergast an opportunity at the helm.

      This is a friendly and a great chance to blood new options without the pressure of results based tournaments such as the 6 nations. The last world cup we came up short having only an outhalf in his late 30s playing 80 min.
      This is positive. FFS people complain when the manager doesn't blood new players and complain when he does.

    I would have gone for Crowley myself but I can understand why Prendergast has been picked. We will learn a lot about him on Saturday. The other option would be to wait until the Italy game in the 6N to give him a start in a big game (even then, Italy are looking less and less of a easy game). Will be interesting to see how Crowley reacts to this selection - I don't see him as the kind of player who will sulk but it's going to test him.

      No other player has been put under pressure. Our wingers have been poor, both defensively and in an attack; James Ryan has done nothing to warrant inclusion while Beirne has to play both his own position and then out of position to cover Ryan. Joe McCarthy has been a disciplinary nightmare and really needs to get his head screwed on. Nobody has been tried adequately in any other position, but Sam Prendergast just suddenly is starting out half? No offence Simon, but your statement does not hold up in isolation.

It's more about the blend of experience and youth, balancing the partnerships within the squad and figuring out the resources for the big matches. Crowley is not displaced on merit, he'd be starting against a top six team.

Andy Farrell is doing a great job for us with what has been developed since the professional era & long may it last . The team selection for the Australian game is as strong an Irish that team that I've ever seen .Andy is the manager that's alright with me . The result is a win for Ireland . If there's one thing Ireland need it's competition for all positions, fly-half included. If Crowley is smart he'll use this as motivation to turn his form around. Same goes for Frawley. Smart coaching from Farrell

      @fergalohearga9594 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      The thing is, Crowley's form has been good. Prendergast gets a yellow, two balls kicked out on the full, and he's a God. Crowley has a perfect first half and a couple of normal mistakes in the beginning of the first half, and he's a disaster.

      @redmondo42 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @fergalohearga9594 His form has been poor since the start of the URC season. He had a nightmare in Munster's games down in SA. He was average at best against NZ. Played well for 30 minutes the following week, but then faded as the pumas got control of the game. Farrell clearly sees he's struggling for form, hence the Prendergast pick. But there's no reason why he can't turn the form around and regain the 10 shirt for the Six nations

  • @9502937
    @9502937 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    This is a true test for Prendergast. He did well last week, and it’s fair enough. Everyone knows Crowley is still the first choice, I don’t understand the manufactured drama around this. Farrell hasn’t gotten many looks at Prendergast and he needs to develop depth at 10 ahead of the next World Cup. It’s not a popularity contest. Also, I reckon Farrell will take Crowley on the Lions tour and won’t be brining Prendergast, so taking an opportunity in the Autumn Nations to get Prendergast game time just makes sense all around.

  • @eltonioh
    @eltonioh 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This is not the disaster for Crowley that is being portrayed in the media. Farrell is confident enough in Prendergast and is taking the opportunity to play him against a strong, well-coached opponent. This is in a position that has had huge question marks over it for a number of years now in terms of depth. I have little doubt that Crowley is, at the moment, still Farrell's first choice outhalf.
