Noise from Balance Shaft-Failure | Estima, Camry, Velfire, Alphard

Balance Shaft Failure, knocking sound in a cool run.
Common problem for Toyota Estima/Velfire/ Alphard/ Camry.
This will caused vibration due to the inconsistance timing.
Worst case will damage the engine.

So, on my channel, I have 2 videos of the 2az-fe(2.4 liter) running, video 2 shows the engine running from a cold start, and video 1 shows the engine running for 20 minutes. Not on video is me taking the half wood broom stick, and using it as a stethascope, listening to the cylinder head, I heard no ticking, but put the stick to the engine block, and covered my other ear, I heard the ticking noise very clearly. Today I removed the balance shafts, and ohhhhh 💩💩the balance shafts gear is moving just like the one in this video, but the engine does not sound as bad as the one in this vid.

@@davidbartlett9825 I have not made that video yet. I did end up removing the balance shaft from my car. But the ticking is still there. Next to do, is clean the vvti filter, located behind the power steering pulley.

@@snutmeez I changed Vvt gear, timing chain, changed oil and still have the noise. It's worse on cold start but after about 15 minutes it quiets down a little. Got a second opinion from another mechanic and he said it's the balance shaft and he had same issue with a Toyota Camry. I have a Rav4

Hello, is it recomended that these are replaced in pairs? I am replacing rings and bearings on a 2011 Rav4 2AR FE due to high oil consumption. After watching this video I note that there is play from the shaft to polymer gear on main balance shaft. Would like to replace single shaft and all bearings? FYI I deleted them due to monetary restrictions and I don't feel any secondary vibrations in cabin at idle or any varying rpms. About 70 miles on motor this far. Very smooth, good power, should see better gas milage. I can afford and install now balance shafts now but feel no need to. Thanks friend.

How can you identify the fault on the balancer gears

you can hear the "Cracking" noise when start the engine. When remove the gear, you can easily feel the "free play" between gear and shaft.

@@Adv9000 would "clicking" be another way to describe a bad balance shaft? I hear a "clicking" noise .....I was told that when pressure builds up in balance shaft area that's why I'm leaking oil (I leak oil only at around 70to 80 mph)
