More time has now passed between this video and today, than between this video and when the song was first released. We're all so old, yet this song remains eternal.
I just came here because Paul McCartney said BnL is his favourite when it comes to harmony. He said their harmonies are right on and he didn't think John and him never had the sort of range that they have.
Properly discovered BNL in 2014. Bought a fair few of their CDS that i played for ages. Kinda forgot about them for a while but rediscovered them tonight....definitely be my choice of music tomorrow when i mow the grass.
I saw them live 3 x. Once ina wheelchair after major knee surgery and the one who plays the lead guitar ran down and handed me his guitar pick. That was in NC,In the 90’s . I still have the pick saved safe in my jewelry box! I’ll never get rid of it!! I saw them twice in nc and once in NJ where we live now. I wish I could see them again. I could go to a million of their concerts jand each would be fabulously different from the others and great!! I’m glad I wasn’t a kid and in my 30’s when I saw them each time. I was able to enjoy them a lot more than concerts I saw as a teen and in my 20’s. I was able to appreciate them much more being older and more mature as with Billy Joel and Heart in my early 20’s , I remember so little of those concerts it’s almost as if I never went!! Going to concerts at older ages I find more rewarding! Plus BNL give one hell of a show. It’s like a comedy show thrown into the music concert. You never know what to expect and my face hurt from laughing so much!!! Some of the best times my husband and I had without our kids! I want more!
I've only ever seen BNL in concert twice, both times from when Steven Page was still in the lineup. After the first experience I was in agony from laughter over whatever the hell it was that I just saw. After the second one I was in agony from hollering along at the top of my lungs and leaping around like a crazed madman. I'm English, I'm reserved and quiet. We don't do that. I make it a rule to never sing in public. Yet somehow they made me shed off all my inhibitions, clown around like a gibbering loon and they gave me one of the best experiences of my life to date. Simply outstanding.
IT'S Almost CHRISTMAS and THIS DVD of The Talented BNL would make an IDEAL GIFT(s) for those COOL Friends and Family! YES! THEY'D be SO IMPRESSED with Your TASTE... Particularly, if you've Shared Moments Listening To SUCH MEMORABLE TUNEAGE! Thank You for considering my Suggestion... Most Appreciated! ❤ 😅
The genius, or cleverness, is "I'd buy your love" The million dollars is irrelevant as we think money changes our lives but it is our outlook that should change. All of the things described are everyday items and activities.
I saw BNL at this very venue in 1998. I was in the front row. At the end of the concert, the band swept along the front row to greet the crowd as they exited. Steven Page handed me a beer-soaked monkey that had been thrown on stage during this very song, “If I Had A Million Dollars.” This 55 year old (2024 age) cherishes that monkey!
@@stefank7983 I mean getting caught with coke is almost like a right of passage for bands. Could you imagine if the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin broke up the moment a member got caught with drugs? Not sure they would have even made it past their first rehearsal. 😂
In '96, BNL appeared at the local mall record store and played some unplugged songs. So many people showed up, there were lines stretching out thru the parking lot to see them. No problems occured.
This year 2023 before London Queen Elizabeth died they bare naked ladies were finally unband from being Hall of Fame they weren't allowed to play in British or London soil but search it facts awesome facts
The Barenaked Ladies became famous when Barbara Hall banned them from city hall because of their name. I seem to be banned from many places and get handcuffed by police and security guards. Why were they really banned? How come they performed at City Hall in 2017 without being killed, attacked, handcuffed etc?
I thought the same but I saw Steven in Ottawa two years ago and saw BNL in Ottawa at Bluesfest. Steven was terrible and boring as crap alone. But Ed was amazing and the whole band were amazing at Bluesfest. They don't miss him - but he sure misses them...
playthatgeetar That's too bad. I heard his solo stuff on Q once and wasn't mightily impressed. He's lucky he can live part time in the US after his coke fiasco.
+Lisa Evans each to their own i guess i kind of liked his solo album but it wasnt something i would run out and buy directly amazing i think both "new" BNL and steven is sort of bad they needed that banter between them and the "two sides of one song" feeling they used to give thats what made them special to at least me
@@medw7013 I saw BNL without Steven Page at the Old St. Pat's World's Largest Block Party in Chicago and... it was just terrible. I tried to be nice and give it a chance but the other guy's voice is nowhere near as good as Steven's.
Funny story: My 7yo came home from school and asked, 'Dad, what would you do if you had a million dollars?' First thought was there a song about that. Then I showed her this video. She got a kick out of it and even sang along.
i wonder if he plays the gatar and feels alone with out the other guy singing back… it would be hard to be in a band and out of nowhere just separate and go separate ways… i love how they randomly just talk about anything like they are just hanging out.
I don't think it's as random as it appears. The background band members have to know where the dialogue is going so they know when to come back in. I believe it's very rehearsed but maybe not verbatim though. :)
LisaDawnn The band can just keep playing the same thing indefinitely until they continue singing again. The song doesn't change at all until they begin the bridge.
Is it the Creegan brothers who are banned as they were members of Mooredale youth orchestra like myself? Anton kuerti and Christine Bogyo said that they were crazy as the Barenaked Ladies?
I thought the same, but I saw Steven in Ottawa two years ago and BNL at Bluesfest in July. They are GREAT without him. Ed give such a great show and Jim and Tyler get way more time and so much more time to show their real talent without Steven. Seriously, they are better without Steven and he is TERRIBLE (and over) without them.
@@playthatgeetar Wow, are you kidding me? I've seen Steve four times just in the past two years, and he sounds great! I have to disagree with you on your opinion on him.

probably the most iconic canadian song ever. maybe heart of gold is close.
Wonderful songs, but you can't leave out Gordon Lightfoot, one of the greatest Canadian songwriters EVER
"A Picasso or a Garfunkel"
25+ years later, that line still makes me laugh.

Can we all take a minute to appreciate the comedic value of Kevin Hearns accordion playing?
The best live version I've heard so far. The harmonies. ❤❤❤
You are so right
That gives me the best cooling house bumps with crowds play alone times it's great

Such a great wedding reception song, too…

If I had a million dollars I`d buy this band.. So nice !!
How can they not miss this ? We all do . Fix it and get on with more of this ! Fans love this magic.

About their intro.. Hella comical i love this straight up cool thank you guys with lyrics

Like the song's title, the vocals are so rich...
I like this song its the best song from the 90's. Dennis winship lynn Massachusetts
Such a fun and lighthearted song. It’s a pretty sweet song to play for a special someone if you have a band
I miss them so much...together.
Eric Lamarche I know, it's really a bummer, I hope one day they can make up and Steven can re-join.
I’m seriously late to this story. Did the guitarist singer leave? Is that Steven?
@@scottyoz2460 No, it’s the singer without a guitar. He left the band to go solo a while back. Very sad :(

Good song. One of my faves.
Great band. Can't wait to see them again in concert.
Miss seeing Steven Page with BNL. Just saw them last Saturday at Pine Knob where this was filmed. Not the same but I guess it’ll do for now.

but not a real representation... that would be cruel.
Just one of the best, if not the best, singing duo ever
This is how you know you've made it as a musician. When you can sing your song and get oh say 500-1000 of your closest friends to sing with you.

A lot of bands ruin their songs when they do them live. Not the case here. Same great quality in playing and singing that you hear on the CD.

tbh theyve def made that amount but just realize theyre what 7+ band members so even if they had 1 mil, thats at most 2-3 years full-time job each
