    This was a great how to series. There is nothing better than a good pair of moccasins IMHO.

    I have been making moccasins for awhile and the first time I heard was a rawhide sole,well I'll tell you I have been racking my head on how to make them,not sure without a form to keep them in shape. Now I got inventive and found a rubber sheeting that can be used for that purpose ,cut, glue,sew on and then sew up, better then what you just went through and last longer, 5hey look like store bought shoes.

    Nice kid friendly video with all that safety gear, double gloves and all, I have a 6 year old pair of Steger mukluks with bum soles, looks like a good kit to get another season out of them.

    Very informative video! A good pair of moccasins that have been well taken care of can last a lifetime, especially if quality leather is used. I have a few pairs of Dyer Moccs that I wear and at least one of them was made before I was born. Keep up the great work! I’ve never applied my own soles but I’m tempted to try it out now.

    Does the recycled rubber bits of the sole crumble off after a while? For example if you wear the mocs around the house, is it going to leave little rubber crumbles everywhere? Thanks for the video.

    Could this be used on regular shoes...to make them quiet? No click clacking down linoleum or hard wood floors? I am definitely going to get this contact cement and that ground up rubber! I've saved all my favorite boots because I couldn't let them go...this might just save a few.

    I'm watching this a year after you made this video. Your content isn't coming to me like it should. I really enjoyed this project. I work with leather too. I like the rubber chips idea, but what would you think of using shoe goo? Contact cement gets kind of stiff, and cracks a bit??? Dana

  • @BeachDix
    @BeachDix 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I always assumed that the soft side of leather was less durable. Is that not the case or is it just the sides don't get enough wear to make a difference?

    • @GrayBeardedGreenBeret
      @GrayBeardedGreenBeret  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sides won’t see any wear really, all my mocs have always just worn on the soles of the feet in a very distinct pattern.

    Those moccasins must be really nice to wear on dry soil, but bad in urban areas where everyone is walking around doing a little of everything on the ground. They must last you a year of wear in good conditions, but I don't think I could go back to that again.

    • @GrayBeardedGreenBeret
      @GrayBeardedGreenBeret  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question for you. I spend much of my time outdoors barefoot. I know I shouldn't as I'm in Australia and snakes, Funnel Web spiders, Drop Bears etc but nevertheless I do. Is there a comfort difference if you put the smoothed side of the lower facing out? I imaging you'd " slide" about in them for a while till you bed them in

    • @GrayBeardedGreenBeret
      @GrayBeardedGreenBeret  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never noticed a difference in comfort between the two, either feels good against the foot

      I am not sure having only tried this one rubber soling kit. I believe LOTN (the makers of the kit) have gone through a couple trying to find the best one that performs in the extreme cold temps and remains soft and pliable the best and settled on the one they provide in this kit.

    I would suggest sewing a more durable leather sole such as bison leather using a welt to faciltate resoling. Rubber insulates your body from "Earth Grounding." Maintaining grounding to the earth is important for neurological health.

    So, the reason I want to eat my moccasins in winter is to continue to get vitamin G (ground). Rubber refutes that purpose.
    I doubt the indigenous people used rubber. I wonder could you do a video demonstrating a natural way to water/ snow proof mocs? Or maybe you have a link? Or already did such a video?
    Thanks
