This reminds me of a musical journey I took a few years ago. It started with Nathaniel Rateliff "SOB" --> Dead South "In Hell I'll Be in Good Company" --> Shakey Graves "Roll the Bones" --> Colter Wall " The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie" All great music. Of them, I think I appreciate Colter Wall's catalog of work the most, but "Roll the Bones" is just phenomenal.

It seems like you were too enchanted with the style, the presence and the voices to notice how deep the lyrics are. I don't know if this fits under any genre. This is so different from the traditional bluegrass I grew up with. I won't introduce it to dad because he won't appreciate it, but I like to think of it as my banjo music, so I won't feel so guilty about not regularly choosing music with banjo in it. Dad plays 5 string banjo in that traditional fast fingerpicking style.
