I saw a performance last night very similar to this. It was awful, it looked like there was no connection and she was going to fall. Actually, you do see this in Buenos Aires, especially at La Viruta. To which Noelia goes to wearing cowboy boots to dance "tango". To each, its own.

what is this? is it tango? that embrace/her hands/his hands!!! arrrgh...... why don't I see people dancing like this in BA? OK it's fun, but please don't call this tango! This type of video is the reason people are copying and worldwide tango is being ruined...... I have wanted to say this for a long time, now I've said and I don't care who disagrees with me!

You are focusing way too much on their embrace and yes, some dancers used to dance in this embrace in the past too.
Google for "Osvaldo Cartery and Luisa Inés Cartery", winners of the Tango Salon championship in Buenos Aires, 2004.
It's milonga and not tango - and you should focus on their legwork.

This was a pretty much flawless milonga, but regarding their hands - it was their personal style. An expression of the music.
I am not a fan of it either, but it is absolutely irrelevant, because the whole dance happened in their body, their feet - and the musicality.
They didn't dance to the beat, they were dancing to the music - and you should focus on that.
People who focus on posture / hands are totally missing it.
