- Where to start with Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT)? We start with the program’s nuts and bolts. We will clearly explain the inner workings of DBT, and how you can get it to purr … or quack … happily for you.
Instructor: Kyle DeJute
Instructor’s Title: Braille Trainer
Instructor’s Affiliation: American Printing House for the Blind
Primary Core or ECC Area: Compensatory Skills (specifically, braille) and Assistive Technology
Target Audience: transcribers, teachers of the visually impaired, paraprofessionals who know braille, prison braille groups, administrators, anyone who uses DBT or assigns someone else to use it
Pre-requisite knowledge: basic braille knowledge
Lesson Plan Goal: Explain software concepts that are foundational for using Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT) and demonstrate how those concepts affect braille transcription
Learning Objectives:
1) identify and describe the three file types created by DBT [.dxp, .dxb, .brf], 2) define “character style,” “paragraph style,” and “code” in regard to DBT,
3) describe what a “template” is in regard to DBT,
4) Explain and locate the setting “read formatted braille without interpretation”,
5) identify that DBT documentation [i.e., “help menu”] is available online
Materials Needed: It is not necessary, but having a copy of DBT installed and ready to use is ideal.
Hi, I’m trying to figure out how to generate a table of contents using duxbury that I’ve imported from a word document. Is there a training video for that?
We aren't aware of any training videos on this topic but Duxbury Systems themselves have written some material about tables of contents (TOCs).
