Deal breaker for me is no internal battery, so if you mount it flush it looks like you have to run it from a power lead. That means limited use in a car or problems if it is part of a set.
@@gaffergear @Gaffer & Gear I do like them. I mean it's a first iteration, but the flexibility aspect is great. I used some soft frost gels to diffuse them and the color quality is pretty good. A grid would be great. I actually got another 2 (so 2 pairs) and plan to make a 360 degree circle or at least a bigger arch! Could be fun effect. Curious on your verdict on the fire effect? Maybe the the second iteration could use a more bendable material perhaps. LIke you said, unlike anything else, and you found an unexpected use. Great. I liked the App too, it was relatively easy to group them all together and use as one.
@@philpritchard5173 everyone loves the app, but I couldn't get it to work with two lights, but given how many people love the app I figured it must be me so I didn't mention it in the review. Hearing your reply I'm glad I didn't.
It's a huge mix of bits, Androkie, kupo, and eBay. A good way to find high powered magnets that don't have a 200% film tax is to google 4WD removable light magnet kits.
If the light has a +/- green in HSI mode, why wasn't the adjustment baked in software of the CCT mode to make sure it was dead on? Was this light color tested before leaving the factory? Am I being to harsh here
Hey! I'm sure you will review an Aputure Infinibar soon, eagerly waiting for that one. I bought one this week (PB12) and unfortunately had to return it immediately due to a faulty battery. I was bummed out since I've grown to trust Aputure as a brand over the years. I'm sure it's just a first batch issue but still! The battery was completely depleted when the light arrived and I was already worried at that point. It charged but showed weird numbers in the panel. When I unplugged after 3h charge and ran off battery, it lasted for 5min. Broken, simple as that.
They will be taking keen interest in your battery when they get it back. I found a similar issues beta testing. They will be upset that this has happened on a release light after all the effort that was taken in testing.
@@gaffergear do you think it would be wise to hold off purchase of these? I was planning to get a kit of four PB12's, but the availability in Finland is zero at the moment (or one if we count the broken one 😄).
@@gaffergear I appreciate it! And in general, you are simply the go-to guy on TH-cam for light reviews - simply brilliant presentation skills. Keep it up 🙏
First thoughts seeing this was "TABLETOP". i wouldnt count it out yet, you know what might look good with this is a Pool Noodle with light density since its flexible.
Hmm.. If you put enough of them together you could make a curved wall of light similar to Deakin's Cove lighting. Just add pixel control, stronger diffusion to hide the emitters and CRMX.
We tend to attach to the roof if the camera is outside the car so they are not visible. Otherwise the DPs I work with prefer the light to come from the direction of the windows (assuming the lights are out of shot)
Love your reviews and particularly highlighting non-obvious real world use cases for fixtures like this.

Agree, hopefully someone runs with this concept with internal battery and CRMX.
Great thank you. I have these and asked Sirui to create some diffusion and grids for them. Would love to know more about those magnets!
How have they been for you?

Never really seen a usecase for these but the uneven mounting is a big plus!
I literally was thinking car mount as I looked at this. Ordered it right after you showed it.
I used the tether tools D-tap inverter to power them.

I feel they could have gotten this better, the LEDs definitely feel capable of more.

Hi Andrew, for cars - is that solution better than a flex panel velcroed to the roof?
