- Sadly, tens of thousands of kilometers of Ukrainian territory remain under occupation. But in 2023, we're starting to hear the words 'counter-offensive' more regularly. Ukrainians have even formed new units to liberate their lands and kick the enemy out. The name speaks for itself - the Offensive Guard. So what does this unit look like, and where do they come from?

I noticed that too 😅 on the other hand I have never heard him speak anything else but english.
I’m part 🇺🇦so I find it easy accent to understand, but I taught English as a second language to children so I’m not bad with most accents

@M Savina I think rubizhe means Frontier, and I think Starsky said it also sounds a bit like the word for iron.
I've been calling them Iron Frontier.
A bit like Iron Curtain. They're gonna chuck them out and keep them out.
Max and Pasha talked about it when the brigade got its name.
It's always strange to see Starsky in proper professional mode, a bit like when Brandon handles a gun.

Oh, thank you so much. I should probably watch Flashback’s streams. I’ve cut back big time on watching Ukraine content lately. News in US and other geopolitical issues have been off the chain…andddd with Ukraine consistently losing ground meter by meter, ehhh I can only ingest so much. Im also so frustrated the allies have allowed Russia to take more ground, destroy more towns n cities, it only makes it more difficult for Ukraine’s warriors to take it back.

As a Canadian, I am very angry at our neighbours down south in America for not releasing the F-16S and long range missiles. I am also angry for our Cdn government for not putting pressure on the Americans to release these weapons. History will not look kindly upon us.

3 to 1 is the ratio required for success due to needing superior firepower and to replace casualties for a continued push, not necessarily the casualties.
This also doesn't account for the fact that in a counter offensive, you have local partisans who can report on Russian movements and sabotage Russian logistics and positions when the offensive forces are close.

The 3x casualty thing is from the 1800s when people with muskets were attacking entrenched defenders. It's not like that now, and hasn't been for a century.
For example, the Japanese were completely dug-in in Okinawa. The Japanese lost somewhere between 90,000 and 110,000 soldiers (which included 30K Okinawan conscripts) while the US lost 12,500 KIA & MIA.
Or take the invasion of Normandy by the Allies. During Operation Overlord the Allies lost about 40K men to the Germans losing an estimated 80K men based on German soldier grave counts in France. By the end of August the Germans had lost, or had rendered combat ineffective, 55 divisions.
