Hi John It's amazing how quickly the Queen moved around the hive. The mite drop is looking low which is always a good result. Maybe a mite wash would be an option for the wild bee colony. That way you would get a definite answer as to whether they are hygienic bees? However, I did here somewhere that it has been known to have two Queen's in one hive. The magnifying lens is a great Idea to, I could do with something like that myself. I'm as blind as a bat 🤣🤣 I bet Lin loved the additional propolis on her lens. Hope Lin is keeping well and fingers crossed that her condition will improve in time. Honey show next month so if all goes well the wife and I will attend, hope you can make it as well. Great video keep them coming All the best Mike
Hi Mike I may try a Mite wash on the wild bee one then and see what the difference it is also I will be at the Shepherdswell honey show next month , is that the one you are going to , or somewhere else? As we are retired now we may travel to different honey 🍯 Shows , we have all the time in the wold now , great 👍 john & Lin
Very interesting John. There is a wild bee colony in a roof of a neighbour’s house and has been there for 5 years or so. I’m looking forward to catching a swarm from them next year and trying what you are doing; keeping it away from my hives, leaving it to its own devices a little, and not treating it.

I have tried before with a swarm but they died out due to mites , I’m pretty sure mine haven’t been treated for 25 years or more , hope you catch your swarm , 🤓👍
Good idea using Lin’s eye glass , very handy, I use my wife’s tights to filter old paint. Great video, that queen was a diva always wanting stardom. See you soon 😊👍
Hello John and lynn, multiple queens or a optical illusion that magnifying glass must be broken mate lol, I have a hive that swarmed back in May and just refuses to requeen itself I’ve tried everything in the book to get them sorted so just this weekend gone was going to combine them with a few nucs and have done with it only for me too find one queen in the brood box and another in the super both queens look mated so now I’m babying them to see if I can get them through the winter wonders will never cease. Treatment is on every hive and they are all getting as much syrup as they can take, damn wasps are in biblical numbers had to move two nucs to a different apiary as they were getting attacked mercilessly. Great vlog John as always and thanks for taking us along with you at your apiary mate.
so nice to hear from you Mark, as you say wonders will never cease with beekeeping, I really enjoyed reading your comment , wasps just starting hear to try and get in the hives, thanks again John
That’s interesting I bet you have other things we don’t have here though, Island seems a very pretty place full of flowers , hope your bees are doing well there, happy beekeeping from john and Lin
Hi John and Lynn. Lovely Video John, especially the inbeded Animated graphics,, how did you do that? (Was it some Editing Software? I love doodles... You had me on the edge of my Seat watching .... "Queen Bee(s) Mad Max- the Movie" .... for sure. 🤭 Please DONT use a Magnifier over a BEE, it Will FRY THEM in concentrated UV Light ! 🥺 Hope you had a good Bee Season John re Honey Harvest. And Lynn is doing OK. Did she get her Opthalmic procedure done yet? Old Nursing Trick, get any Text enlarged on Phone, Device etc, copy and paste it into a "Yellow Background," it's much easier to see if its visually 'difficult reading' off White "glare of paper etc." All Hospital Staff have Name Badges with Black Print on Yellow backgrounds, these days, for this reason ! Hope this helps. Regards Miranda. 🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2021. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 My Bess were nippy re Stings, until the Ivy started to Flower, they must be in alternative 'Clover' so to speak ! Here in the Scottish Borders... 🤗
Hello Miranda, very pleased that you enjoyed my attempt of entertaining people with my beekeeping antics, and yes I do use some software to add those funny Mojoes , I have a neurological brain disorder and forget words, so I am able to add the words I should’ve said on the video laugh out loud, 😂 thank you for your wonderful advice regarding the yellow background Lin is going to have a go at your suggestion , Lin has now had a number of procedures too many to list, NHS are very good, seeing the consultant today , it’s been two weeks since the last operation so maybe we need more time to heal, appreciate your advice, regarding the magnifying lens I will not be using it again as I know it was a terrible mistake I have been told by other beekeepers too , myself and Lin are looking forward to going to Scotland as we are now retired , what a wonderful place Scotland seems to be, it must be nice living on the borders of it, john 👍🤓🐝
You can fry the bees with the magnifying glass. Try it on ants on your sidewalk, if you can't figure it out find a young lad and he can show you. You made be cringe when you put the glass above her. You are very calm with your bees. I did enjoy the mites on the board, was wishing it to get fried.
Thanks for your great advice , I would like to say that the hives are under trees and no direct sun light was on them just sun light coming through the trees leaves but i will not do that again , Thanks John
Seeing the queen four times is amazing, I can't find my queens at all. Thank you for another interesting video John.
Hi Ken , I have hives I never see the queen also , funny how they are all different, appreciate your comment, Happy beekeeping from,John
