THE RECORD PRODUCERS FILE 1962 1984

A Directory of Rock Album Producers 1962-1984 by Bert Muirhead. Although it contains a lot of details about this that and other artists and what label they were on and who produced them. In my opinion it is no match for the The Record Producers by John Tobler and Stuart Grundy which is a much broader and interesting work. The Muirhead work is essentially a book of lists but still handy to have none the less.

I recommend a book called 'Memphis Boys' by Robin Jones. It tells the story of studio owner and producer Chips Moman. Chips' career is extraordinary. Fantastic book.

The book would have been relevant at the time of publication, but I reckon the details are available on Wikipedia nowadays.
It seems that Producers names are still mentioned, but the quality of the production of newer albums is not talked about as much.
Two albums that were poorly produced were In Color by Cheap Trick and crazy Nights by Kiss. Tom Werman made the songs on In Colour sound just like pop. The band did re-record the songs but only one can be heard and it now rocks. Ron Nevision produced Crazy Nights and the sound is horrible. It's too bland.

@@bluenazz That's fine to joke about Kiss. My Mate is a massive fan, but I lost interest 21 years ago as they weren't the same Kiss I loved. I still play their albums from time to time.

@@bobby666666 I actually like Kiss better now than I did back in the 70's. In those days, the Kiss fans were mostly pubescent teen boys with pimply faces - LOL!
