Kai was born in Hawaii, but Bahiyyih was born in Korea - their parents relocated the family in between. Neither of them have Hawaiian ancestry, though - their Dad is an American (of European descent) and their Mother is Korean. So Bahiyyih is genuinely Korean, in terms of both nationality (born there) and ethnicity (from one Korean parent).

I don't think people should be rude to the hosts, but it's funny that people make excuses for them thinking she's not Korean when they hate on reporters who tell idols they speak good English/ Chinese. It's honestly the same thing. Even with a non Korean last name, that doesn't mean she couldn't be part Korean or even fully Korean but adopted or going by a stepfather's last name.

Its important to acknowledge how much more progressive the west is when it comes to traditional roles or this type of thing. So in a way the standards are simply just higher in the west because its almost a societal standard. While it was very much a dumb question the dude was super respectful about it and asked the question in one of the best ways possible

But that's a fair assumptions tho? Especially for a white passing person. Im half korean and half white like her. I also didnt use my korean name. It's fair for people to think I'm a foreigner. Most halfie here actually have a korean name being part of their birthname(for example, somi mostly uses a korean name, instead of her birthname, so people knows she's korean. Another example, Han Hyunmin, a model ). It's rare for mixed kids here to not use our korean name at all. Like bahiyyih, i also didnt use mine, so people thought I'm actually from russia with my name, eventhough i was born in korea. It's not something that people should be offended on, especially when they're being respectful about it.
