Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer and today we'll be taking a look at Yakima EXO system kit. This has two GearWarriors kitted onto your EXO system. If you're wanting to get into that modular system, you want that extra capacity, This is a great way to start. The Yakima EXO system is a modular system where you can mix and match different accessories. So whether you want two cargo boxes or a bike rack on your EXO system, you can do so. With all the different accessories, you have a lot of different opportunities to have the best adventure.
So you're planning out your adventure but you're trying to figure out where you're gonna put all your cargo, your gear, your stuff. You could put it inside but maybe that's not an option for you. What is an option Some people like to think about roof boxes. So roof boxes are great, but they have their downsides. One is gonna be you have like a maximum 160 pound weight capacity.
Two, What about your garage clearance Do you have enough height above your vehicle Three, can you reach up onto your roof conveniently for those larger and bulkier items Plus, if you don't have garage clearance up top, you're gonna have to load up your box outside. What if it's raining What if it's snowing There's things like that you have to consider. And another option is a small trailer and you could definitely go that route but you're also gonna have to figure out how you're gonna be able to tow the trailer, where you're gonna store it. There's a lot of extra things to a small trailer that you might not be ready for and that's why the EXO system is a great alternative to those two options because you have the versatility of being able to access your vehicle quickly and easily. You have different cargo baskets, you can take them off, put them in your campsite, put them back on and you still leave your roof open if you wanna carry another roof box or a kayak or other accessories, things like that.
Now does have downsides as well. So there are some things you're gonna have to think about when you have the EXO system on and that's what this video is for. Does your vehicle have the capacity to carry around the EXO system This can get very heavy very quickly. Cargo alone is gonna be a maximum of 190 pounds, not including the whole system weight. So I recommend have a hitch with a tongue weight capacity of at least 350 pounds.
Fully loaded, it will not go over 350 but just double check your tongue weight capacity. So what type of cargo can you carry around Well, you have this basket and baskets are great because you can load them up however you want. You're not limited to a box shape but you are limited to weight and height. So for the bottom basket you have a cargo capacity of 110 pounds. Top basket is going to be 80 pounds, ideally, so you can still see through your rear window if you have that. Put your taller items on the bottom, your shorter items up top but you are limited to a 17" height inside that basket for those taller items. Now for strapping things down, you can strap down wherever. Any part of the basket can be used as a tie down or anchor point. I do recommend picking up some extra straps. We have etrailer cam buckle straps on right now. Grab an extra pack as you get the system. Now my personal favorite feature with this is how easy it is just to take the entire basket off. You don't have to undo anything from your hitch you can just use the EXO cleat system to do it quickly and easily. Let's start. See these tabs, they're in the locked position. Push them out on both sides to the turn position. So now we can turn our unlocked knobs all the way out 'til they tighten back up. And now you and your friend can grab each side of the basket, lift it off of the SwingBase and put it wherever you want. By the way, if you have the WarriorWheels add-on, you can attach them to this and turn your basket into a cart, making it even easier to transport. This makes it easier as well to pack up your basket when you're at your campsite or at home. And then all you need to do is put the entire basket back onto your system. This pops into those tracks right there. Tighten those knobs right back in. You can see how the cleats hold on to your EXO accessory, push those tabs back into the locked position, lock your speed knobs and you're ready to hit the road just like that.
