I'm in FNP school. I haven't had any group work, but I've had DBs throughout the whole program, and I'm half way done. I don't think it'll stop either, but I've always heard that your Master's is A LOT of writing and it is.
Mrs Catherina is obviously the best, i studied her questions and answers just in 5 days and I passed, the materials she provided was exactly the questions I saw on my test day
Once you get pass the core classses the rest of the classes are an absolute breeze......well it was for me but I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Neonatal NP.......sis.......you may have a valid complaint🥴 However stick with it! The time will fly by fast and you'll love the autonomy you have once you're able to practice! Great video❣
@larawright9260 I joined the student chapter for our state NP group. I also networked my @$$ off!!!! What I always tell students who are in psych looking for preceptors is to create a Psychology Today profile and reach out to potential people of interest on there.
I feel you on the virtual group work! I'm doing my BSN portion of schooling online while getting my ADN in person at the same time. We recently had to do virtual group projects for my nursing theory class & it was rough. People procrastinate, have jobs, and there is a huge lack of communication. It is not helpful in anyway!
I love your honesty coz that's how I feel right now. Discussion Board: respond to at least two of your colleagues, and you have to react quickly. Assignments and quizzes in a short time frame; even though I'm self-paced, you still have deadlines at the end of the week, and usually, it's Sunday.
In my first semester of college as a nursing major and I have to retake two pre requisite courses😢 Watching your videos make me feel like I can still persevere and become a nurse!
I don’t usually comment on videos, but this really helped! I’m going to start college in a few months and I’ve always wanted to be an NNP, I really appreciate your honesty and being real! Being in the nursing field isn’t easy and is very competitive, watching this video gave me some perspective on what to expect when I go to grad school, thank you!!
Thanks for being open and honest! I'm starting NP school next week and honestly I'm dreading the group work and papers. The online thing is so foreign to me. I've been out of school for 18yrs!!
I love that you brought up what does and doesn’t add value to your practice as a nurse while in school. That is my biggest issue with school in general. On a positive note, you got this! I am so happy for you and we absolutely need you.
I'm feeling the same way about school right now...like I wanna get to the fun classes lol makes it hard to stay focused a little bit I have to keep repeating my "why" in my head just to get through it lol
Hello Nurse Alexis. Thank you so much for your honesty throughout this video. I will also point out that for anyone looking to take this path of becoming an APRN, you will need to be a very astute and organized student if you're doing 100% online schooling. This is especially true if you are not well disciplined enough to get your work done on time all while being in your comfort zone. Remember medical students and PA students are not attending online classes which is why their curriculum is more challenging and rigorous than NP schools because it requires them to be alert and very focused outside of their comfort zone. NP school heavily relies on your experience as a nurse within a certain population focus which is why it's core curriculum is less intense than the previous two. You also will not be allowed to work at any capacity while in medical/PA school because of the intensity of the curriculum. I also love the fact you have over 5 years experience as a NICU nurse and works at a Level four floor. Do you have your RNC-INC? This is the exact type of experience NNP program directors/Neonatologists look for upon admission and during rotations. Thanks again for the video and you're going to be a great NNP!!
The first couple of semesters suck. once you get through the fluff classes and take the classes pertinent to your track, it gets better. Just finished my last core class and moving into clinicals. At these moments remember your “why” and keep the end goal in sight. Rooting for you 🎉
I just finished my first semester of FNP school and I agree 100% with what you said. Discuss post are just busy work. I try to see it as easy points to help bring my grade up or use these assignments as a cushion for if I don’t do the best on quizzes.
Congrats in being in Grad School!!!! I just started my first semester, and I put things off too. I have to motivate myself to do the reading & assignments. Lol like you, I had to buy myself things just to help push me to complete my assignments. I wish the best of luck in your Grad school journey!
Congrats on finishing the first semester of NNP school! ❤ I love your videos! I just graduated with my BSN and was hired with no experience to a level 4 NICU at a children’s hospital in Texas! 💕 your videos have inspired me and got me so excited for my journey! I do want to go back to school for my NNP as well, how many years experience would you say is good before going back to school??
I feel you with the group work & disc boards with online grad.studies. it seemed like one person always seemed to take the upper hand with preparing the PowerPoint & any work I did got shoved under the table, lol. Hated it all. Then when u had to count your replies to the disc boards every week and answer the question yourself too, just very time consuming.
Get used to the group work. I have 2 semesters left before I graduate w/ my FNP. There’s group work all the way through. DB’s all the way through. There’s a reason why you are starting where you’re starting. The faster you adapt the better you’ll do. The more you’re “fighting” the process & the more negative of an attitude you have, the poorer you’ll do, the more negative experience you’ll have. Sure, the work is busy, but, if you embrace the structure of your program & derive the information that is being taught, you will see that you’re building a foundation. Also, nursing theory will be on your state boards. If you chose a good program (I’m guessing you did) trust the process, learn to find the gratitude in walking before you run. It’s gonna be a stacked field by the time you graduate. You may consider focusing on distinguishing yourself from your peers. Because your peers are out here focused. Many students don’t pass their boards on the first try. #PERSPECTIVE can make or break situations.
yup I absolutely agree. As I mentioned multiple times I’m grateful for the experience however it’s important not to sugarcoat honest feelings and I want to give the most honest experience that I have to share. Everything is not enjoyable but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to push through. I’m exactly where I need to be 🫶🏽
I feel the exact same way about group projects and discussion boards! lol like whyyyyyy :) im in nursing school right now for my bsn, hoping to one day become an NNP!
I love your video! So real and relatable. Like you said, some of it wasn’t what you expected (or even enjoyed), but it’s just about getting it done and moving on to the next class. You’re going to make an awesome NP 💗
I feel you 100%! I don’t prefer online learning, but it’s the only option when working full time (for me). I agree, it’s so easy to forget about until you open your laptop.
I'm a nurse going back to school to get my licensing for diagnostic cardiac sonography. It is online and girl i feel you with the online school struggles with the procrastination and the group projects. Just hang in there
I'm in the same boat, but for FNP...some of the classes we won't be even using but, they always try to throw that a Master's is all about the subject, we just don't think about it...anyway, I understand....I'm just trying to suffer through...hang in there gurllll...😊
Ugh, the "core curriculum" sucks so much. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm almost done with my first term of PMHNP. I'm taking health informatics and it's so boring. I feel like it could have been a quick seminar, not an entire 12 week term. I just want to learn psych!
Is your program completely online? Could you share what program it is? And congrats btw, for even going back! I love watching you advance in your career!🎉
I can totally relate! I start MSN-NNP track this spring 2023. I’m not interested in the busy work or learning information that doesn’t pertain to the NICU. BUT luckily I only have two semester before I start specialty course work. Are you working FT and FT grad student?
Wait I can do that?? I've always wanted to be a NICU nurse, but I also want to do mother baby and L&D. I wanna get a chance to help care for mom too! I always wondered if I could start in either one of those and then maybe transfer onto NICU later on?
Thanks for this video! I’m currently a nursing student hoping to go back for my Masters soon afterwards. I always thought you get to choose what specialty you want to focus on 😂 it sounds lowkey like nursing school all over again in a mini version.
I am currently an ER nurse. I have always wanted to work in the NICU, however for a few reasons I have not been able to work in the NICU. I have always wanted to become a NNP and was wondering if you need to be working in the NICU to become a NNP? Is that a requirement for your program?
I'd love to hear how you are balancing school work load along with your nicu job. Does your hospital help with tuition/schooling cost? And, is it challenging scheduling your work nursing shifts and your classes/clinical for school?
So this is totally off topic, but I’m pretty sure we were on the same flight to Paris back In September. If I remember correctly, there was another family that took your seat 😭
As a NICU parent, just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all NICU nurses out there❤ y'all are superheroes
You complaining about the general ed classes I felt that on a spiritual level 🤣
I'm in FNP school. I haven't had any group work, but I've had DBs throughout the whole program, and I'm half way done. I don't think it'll stop either, but I've always heard that your Master's is A LOT of writing and it is.
Nurse Practitioner test is really fustrating , I can't believe I failed again after studying so much 🥺🥺😓😭😭
Mrs Catherina is obviously the best, i studied her questions and answers just in 5 days and I passed, the materials she provided was exactly the questions I saw on my test day
It was lucky to meet MRS CATHERINA only God knows I wouldn't have succeeded without her
I saw someone say she's not legit. i couldn't stop laughing, really people say a lot of shit these day's
my first time I'm scared, I don't wanna fail😓
Once you get pass the core classses the rest of the classes are an absolute breeze......well it was for me but I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Future Psych Nurse (congratulations ) do you like it ?
@@s.w2934 I absolutely love it! I love it so much I work at 4 different hospitals!
@@TashaPsychNP That’s awesome 👏🏽
Hi Tasha, I’ll be starting my 2nd year of PMHNP school. How did you find your preceptors?

hi you inspire me so much, i’m a senior in highschool and next week i will be taking my exams to get my CNA 🫶🏽. you really do help motivate me!!!!!

That’s higher education in a nutshell … it’s a business !!! It takes a person who is mentally capable to push past the B.S.

Great advice. I’m about to start CRNA school again after failing and this message is exactly what I needed. Thank you 🙏

Interesting. My end goal is to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner myself. 🤔
THANK YOU FOR THIS ADVICE MUCH NEEDED 👍❤☺

Omfg.. I had to chuckle cuz I was complaining the EXACT SAME things about my 2 year RN program just the other day. The group work..ugh...😫
group work in a online course just don't make sense
I was just wondering about u the other day.. Hope everything is going well..
Ugh, the "core curriculum" sucks so much. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm almost done with my first term of PMHNP. I'm taking health informatics and it's so boring. I feel like it could have been a quick seminar, not an entire 12 week term. I just want to learn psych!
I felt this video and I'm not even in med school anymore lol
The general ED were awesome easy online
You talking about everything online…. girl I started nursing school online I feel you 😂
Is your program completely online? Could you share what program it is? And congrats btw, for even going back! I love watching you advance in your career!🎉
Hi love your channel I’m training to be a doula and love it ❤

Thanks God I don’t have any group work
Thanks for this video! I’m currently a nursing student hoping to go back for my Masters soon afterwards. I always thought you get to choose what specialty you want to focus on 😂 it sounds lowkey like nursing school all over again in a mini version.
You absolutely do get to choose the specialty to focus on however the first few semesters are general classes for all masters nursing degrees
Can you disclose what school your going to? There’s so many schools that its overwhelming searching and finding an actual good school.
I had no idea that going back to school for your masters was just like undergrad almost! That kinda sucks to find out lol.
Are the people in your class/you’re doing group work at least in the same specialty interest as you?
I am currently an ER nurse. I have always wanted to work in the NICU, however for a few reasons I have not been able to work in the NICU. I have always wanted to become a NNP and was wondering if you need to be working in the NICU to become a NNP? Is that a requirement for your program?
Yes most programs require 2 yrs NICU experience.

NP school should do away with all thr fluff stuff. Let's stick to the science that it is having to diagnose people and take care of their ailments.
Ok when u do these tasks your putting everyone at risk of an attack but will u continue ....
I'd love to hear how you are balancing school work load along with your nicu job. Does your hospital help with tuition/schooling cost? And, is it challenging scheduling your work nursing shifts and your classes/clinical for school?

Love you girl but this Picmonic is a whack. I am a Visual learner, and its so chaotic i hate it. It’s full of nonsense things and not helpful
It’s nice to see black women succeeding and advancing their careers
Cringe worthy whingeing for 10minutes , wasted 10minutes of my life☹️
your comment just boosted her video:)
Knowing that Alvin went through NP school he can definitely give Alexis a few pointers that’s a plus although her is peds 🤍
