Dear Ms Mindful and Zephyr. Thank you for making Fridays special once again. You make canal life look so relaxing and beautiful. You are definitely “top of the line” among canal boat vlogs.
Hello. I discovered your channel after watching the entire series of All Creatures Great and Small. The country side of England that you barge through is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Joe. Cape May, US.
Hello Vanessa, I'm a retired Chief Marine Engineer. The part in your video about the engine was quite short, but I thought I would give you a little insight into reading the exhaust!! White smoke indicates water in the engine, usually a blown cylinder head gasket, accompanied by "mayonnaise" inside the oil filler cap. Blue smoke indicates burning oil, possibly broken piston rings, worn bores, or worn valve stem seals (if it has them) Black smoke indicates over fueling, or injectors needing new nozzles/calibration. Going by the funny noise of the engine, and the blue smoke, please check the sump oil level with the engine warm and stopped. If the oil level is above the max line, it will force oil up the bores, causing blue smoke. The funny noise of the engine would then be caused by the sump being pressurised, trying to prevent the pistons from going down. I hope all this makes sense, and will help you to diagnose problems. I've said it before, but you are an amazing artist. I thoroughly enjoy your videos, and look forward to them every week!!
Charles, this is such a helpful message- thank you so much for taking the time to send it. It really well help us to identify what the issue is. Have a super rest of the weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
I have had a horrible week, so I purposefully didn’t watch this on Friday, but saved it so I could sit down on a Saturday night, red wine in hand and just chill and enjoy. Thank you for providing a little piece of chill in an otherwise manic life. It is much appreciated. Please never stop. All the best.

That stunning Flower Beetle with it's shimmering green covering, sitting on a Buttercup, what a beautiful contrast! God... the greatest artist of them all...his signature is on everything at every level and in detail that is just mind-boggling. Such a rich palette of colors, textures and an amazing variety of shapes. And it's all just sitting out there, like it's nothing special. I'm SO glad you take the time to notice and record these things on video! Not only is it something to marvel at, but as an artist it must be quite inspirational too. Loved the buildings and the market. Your videos have always been good, but they just keep getting better and better!
Hi Mark, thank you for such a kind comment. Stumbling on the buttercup meadow was such a magical surprise and I could have sat there for hours. Have a super weekend. Take care🦋🌻
thanks Vanessa for another stroll through beauty....I think you allow us all to become 'unfrazzled', as at the end of your lovely poem. The Beetle and the buttercups drawing is uplifting. I loved the Moor Hen chick and the Marsh Orchid too. And each week I enjoy the sound of water flowing into your teapot! Warm wishes for the week ahead. W xxx
The colours on that green beetle are amazing. Mother Nature keeps astounding me, the smallest of creatures are so beautiful. Take care and have a great week. =-)

What an amazing Farmer’s market and so great that the family allows people to come into their property. The hospital of the U. K and the friendliness of the people you encounter weekly is such a breath of fresh air. I wish I could sketch like you do. I have colored pencils but I noticed yours in your videos and was wondering if the brand you have you like for a certain reason? I’m happy Zeph got to see other dogs like her at the market. It was so funny when you told her you got her some things. She immediately started licking her lips lol. Oh how do you stand the cuteness? I would be cuddling and petting her all day long. The mugs you got are beautiful. I like them. I love tea but I have to be careful because I can’t have a lot of herbs because of having organ transplants. There are a lot of herbs out there that could counteract the anti-rejection meds so I have to be careful. Those dried flowers are lovely too. What was in the tin you purchased? I noticed it looked like you put it in the bathroom. Such an elegant lunch or dinner. I don’t like mushrooms though :(. Even though they looked amazing from last week when you bought them. Holy shrimp. There was a lot of them in that little scoop. My goodness. Don’t forget too that when you feel like things are overwhelming , we are all here wishing you happy and safe journey and wishing we were spending the time with you. You are doing something with your life that you can literally say “I had an amazing life. I did so much”. I hope to be able to say that some day. I think Narrowboating was the best choice for your life now because you look like you have so much fun doing it. Keep having that fun. :)
Hi David, what a kind and lovely comment- thank you so much. There were soaps in the tin and they smell delicious too. I use Derwent watercolour pencils as they are so smooth on the page and blend well. Have a super rest of the week. Take care 🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat You’re more than welcome. I noticed your colored pencils blend well and came out smooth and figured you found a brand you were happy with. I will have to look them up. I can’t draw but I do like to use them. I figured they were soaps but they were shaped interestedly and I didn’t want to assume lol. Thanks for always responding. :)
Wow what a fabulous field of buttercups - they certainly bring a ray of sunshine don't they? Have to smile at the thick-thighed flower beetle though 😀- your Friday afternoon tongue twister 😂😂 Enjoy the Trent and Mersey it's just as beautiful 🙏🐾🦋
Oh Margaret, I fluffed up that tongue twister so many times when reading the poem out!🙈 The buttercups were glorious. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Thank you ❤ I appreciate the time and effort that you put into your vlogs. They are very much appreciated. I just hope people are inspired to look more for the finer details of nature as you do. There is something very comforting and warming about all of your films but more so the making of the tea and wondering how many biscuits are there this week 🤣 Love you and what you do. Thank you 🥰xx
That is so thoughtful of you, Peter- thank you so much. I think the biscuits this week looked so much bigger on the screen than in reality! 😂 Have a super weekend. Take care 🦋🌻
Oh Vanessa the joy this video bought to me is immeasurable...Everything was just So Perfect, So Relaxing 🤗 Today I took a photo of an insect on a Oxeye Daisy on my phone I got home zoomed in & it was A petrol green thick legged beetle, 'So Pretty' I loved that you found one too. Thank You & Zephyr, Sending Love & A Big Hug through the skies 💐💗🐕
Hi Sally, they are wonderful to spot aren’t they because they dazzle in the sunlight? I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog. The Oxeyes are also really on show this week too. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
The shrimps in the water you took for your water -paints reminded me of when I was a small boy early 1950s ! We often played in a spring-fed stream in our local park which had lots of these little shrimps ,but during Summer it would be completely dust dry ! Come the Autumn rain the shrimps would be back again all along it! It was always one of our wonderful childhood mysteries ! I learned later their eggs lay viable in the dry stream bed ,but when the water returned the shrimps were there fully grown! Thank you for another lovely video report!
A lovely vlog as usual, I’m always struck by the music you use, it adds so much to the video. The artisan market was really nice, love to see people passionate about their wares. Great poem at the end.
Love that. you are a genius with your poetry your amazing love the canals all the canal system is beautiful so peaceful it's like your away from world in some places🦋🌻👍👍❤
I've done the heart break hill, they should rename it to back break hill. How do you attach your pictures to the walls? We use to use a hinge type that stuck out on the sides. Yours look so much neater.
Embracing new adventures is always exciting! You've got this! Change is the only constant. Wishing you an amazing journey ahead! Stepping out of your comfort zone is the first step to growth. Enjoy the ride! New waters bring new opportunities. Can't wait to see where this summer takes you.
Dear Vanessa, More people need to take time and look at the miniature world which we pass by when out for a walk; whether it is a paved path in a village or an open field. This is one of the many things I enjoy about your vlogs. You make time to view this miniature world. Remember to treat this new canal as an adventure for yourself, Zephyr and Alice Grace. Mark Alberta, Canada
Suddenly it's Monday late afternoon. The lads who came to trim the apple trees have gone, taking their noisy wood chipper with them. I suddenly felt lazy and decided a wee dram of Glenmorangie single malt and a relaxing video were called for. So I took the time to catch up with Vanessa and Zephyr - perfect. Love the term 'unfrazzled' to describe the mood you created. Thank you.
I am so pleased that you caught up with us today with a wee dram.Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I hope you have an unfrazzled week! Take care 🦋🌻
Absolutely loved the bridges. Everything is so beautiful and green, and especially loved the shot of Zeph standing in the yellow field. Thoroughly enjoyed todays video 💜💜
Those common Columbines remind me of Tiffany lamps too! I've been admiring your butterfly🦋☔ raincoat you've worn lately. What brand is it and where did you purchase it? You may some nice purchases at the Farmer's Market! And what a surprise to have little shrimp swimming in your watercolor tray! Loved your quick nature sketches as you sat amongst the buttercups, and your finished drawing of the Thick Thighed Beetle on the yellow buttercup. What a strange little fellow!🪲🌸 Have a great weekend, Vanessa! Jenny 🤸♂💜
Hi Jenny, I hope you are well? My coat came from a sports shop and it is a Peter Storm jacket. I normally only shop in charity shops but I couldn’t find a decent raincoat anywhere when I was looking. Thank you for your lovely comment too. Have a super weekend. Take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat I'm doing well, thank you. And thanks for supplying the name of your Peter Storm jacket. Hopefully I can find one or one like it. Have a great weekend! Jenny
We only ever see you but all the indications are (2 cups for tea Ect) that you have a partner on the boat (Plus Zepher of course). Be nice to see you both. Love your Vlog.
I live with my husband but he can’t be in the vlogs due to his work commitments and the code of conduct he has signed about being on social media. Thank you for watching. Take care🌻🦋
I have just come back after a month in rural Burgundy . I managed to get two of your vlogs out there and I’m catching up on the other two, they are so relaxing. One thing I have noticed, it still feels like winter here, but as you say the weather conditions make for a great variety in nature. 😊
I hope you had a wonderful time in Burgundy, Jack? It is still very wintry here but I am hopeful that summer is around the corner and we are going to have sunny days with a gentle breeze. 🤞 Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
The field of buttercups reminded me of when I was a child, the fields between our house & the church were full of (child size!) thigh high grasses of many types mixed with endless flowers of all colours awash with grasshoppers, blood suckers as we called them, Daddy Longlegs & countless other insects. It was truly heaven on Earth & so sad it's not like that any more. We really must care better for our planet & everything growing on her. Thank you so much for your lovely videos. ❤
Hi Annie, your tall grass meadow sounds like it was a very special place. There are a few like that up here and it has been beautiful to walk through them. I agree with you that we must take better care of our planet. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Another wonderful vlog such brilliant filming ,i took screenshots of the buttercup field and the Orchid such beautiful vibrant colours , we used to have Aquilegia growing directly out of a stone wall of an old pig pen on the end of our cottage such fragile gentle flowers ,once again thank you it really does start my weekend with a warm happy feeling .
Growing out of the stone wall of a pig pen sounds so romantic to me for some reason? I’m so pleased that you got some screen shots too. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
As children we called the Trent and Mersey the orange canal, spent my childhood messing about on the Macc and Trent and Mersey . I came close to drowning on heartbreak hill lock jumping . The double locks with the half funnel shaped overflow we used to call swilles. About 45 years ago .
Have no fear, the Trent & Mersey is a lovely canal when you're heading North, it's only if you go South through Stoke it gets a bit grim. Especially, once you get past Middlewich it's often winding and glorious (apart from the Tata chemical works!) with several flashes where birds like Grebe can be seen, and just after Middlewich over the small aqueduct there are lots of reeds on the opposite bank where there are reed warblers plus other birds I couldn't identify. The far Northern reaches just before it joins the Bridgewater, are beautiful giving spectacular views over the wide Weaver valley from it's position high on an embankment.
There were certainly many beautiful bridges. So nice cruising with you. The columbines were lovely and so was the orchid. My favorite part of your vlog is the poem you read and your drawings. Thanks.
Oh, that buttercup field! Oh, that vibrant first orchid! Oh, those wondrous iridescent metallic green Thick-thighed flower beetles! And oh, the delicate comfrey colours!... Oh good, I’m not the only one putting milk in my Earl Grey tea! Thanks for your weekly companionship.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the nature this week. I think a dash of milk in earl grey is perfectly acceptable don’t you? 🤭 It is a wonderful blend though. I totally recommend Dutton’s Teas. Thank you for such a lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care🦋🌻
I’m so pleased that you like that part of the video. I’m flattered that you are not a poem guy and you still like it. Thank you so much 😊 Have a super weekend. Take care🦋🌻
Wow! So heartfelt. Thank you for sharing your vulnerable self along with all of your knowledge and artistic talents. You are such a real and complete human being♥️♥️♥️
Thanks Vanessa. A cruise of dodging the showers by the look of it. Lots of lovely flowers, including an orchid! A great Farmers market too. Looked as if Zephyr had her eye on something on one of the stalls. Was that a doggy treat?
To be honest with you, Zephyr was more interested in sniffing the pet stall than meeting the other dogs. 😂🐾🐾Thank you for watching. Have a super rest of the weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
I enjoy, so much, the cadence and tone of Ms Mindful speaking. I wish she had an English language channel. Nevertheless, hers is the only Narrowboat channel I watch. I'm spoiled.
So pleased you captured the glorious buttercup in your drawings they are so cheery I left Lancashire when I was 10yr Dads job & when returned to visit my beloved Aunty asked did I like living in Bedfordshire ? My reply was NO there aren’t any Buttercups & Dry Stone Walls 🤣😂 even at 10yr I could appreciate them & in my 70s I still love Buttercups & Dry Stone Walls of my birth county ❤
What a wonderful story! I love how observant your 10 year old self was too. Buttercups are magnificent flowers and so simply formed. Thank you for your lovely comment, Sue. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
New-ish to your narrow boat video blog and I have deeply enjoyed ALL that I have watched so far. Your beautiful outlook on the nature that surrounds you and the boating views are amazing! I want to visit the farmers market with what looks to be amazing local craft!! Thank you SO much for another window into your world.
Off to a new adventure on a new canal. So excited to see your journey. What an opportunity to see all the crafty works at the square. Thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Just a lovely simple vlog, Done Heartbreak Hill once can be hard work, Loved hearing Zephyr panting for her ball won the biscuit challenge so a good week, stay safe and have a good week.😊
i guessed the IRIDESCENT Beatle would be the journal star very cool also the columbine flower is very similar to one we have here in NE Arizona great video as always
New adventures now and the farmers market looked amazing. How lovely you could re acquaint yourself with Earl Grey tea! Just so wonderful to be able to immerse yourself in nature as part of Nature Journalling week. Must be so easy to lose yourself just watching the insects. That green beetle was stunning. Thank you so much :)
Another excellent vlog. So many of these beautiful meadows are being destroyed through development. Rich in wildlife if you only take time to stop and look. Glorious. Can't wait for your next journal to be published.
Some stunning imagery in this installment... the vistas, the flowers, the wildlife, Zephyr amongst the buttercups (that's a keeper of a shot!). May you never lose your sense of wonder, curiosity, and spirit of adventure! (Oh... and the pied wagtails, too 😊)
Hi Vann, Those mushrooms did look delicious. My wife was very interested in your biscuit bars. Were they homemade or store bought? I never told you before but we have found some of the other biscuit treats that you have had in past episodes. I sort of brings us closer to you in a way. My impression is that you were not thrilled with the brown water at first but you just kept on smiling. We're not as mindful as you but you have had an influence on us. When it was time to name our new internet router we selected the name The Mindful Net. Thanks again for another great vlog.
Hello John, it is always wonderful to see a comment from you. Please tell your wife that if I had made the biscuit bars they would not have resembled biscuit bars and would probably have been more like biscuit bricks! 😂 They were oat bars and were shop bought. The thing with leaving the Peak Forest and Macclesfield Canal is that they were so spectacular that anything following them is going to have its work cut out to compare; that aside, I have really enjoyed my first week on the Trent and Mersey. I am truly honoured that you have The Mindful Net at home! 🤩Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Thanks Vanessa, I think this is the best one yet! Zeph's such a lovely girl and a total star. I don't know how I ended up on your channel...I mostly watch motorcycle adventure stuff! However, I'm glad I did.
@@themindfulnarrowboat I think it came from cruising the cut from some bloke that was on the telly...can't remember Any road up, I just love this channel😊😊
Another delightful vlog giving all an insight to your passion for nature and the recording of such through poetry and coloured pencil in your diary. I think I would have given up in that downpour!
I had such an idyllic vision built up in my mind, of what narrow boating life was, that besides the travails you document on occasion, I had managed to gloss over the actual realities of your day to day life. When I heard you describe the congestion of boats on the canals, my mind immediately went to leaving Los Angeles on a Friday night on the 405, yikes 🫣😬. I wish you safe travels wherever your journey takes you.🙏🏻
In the summer it can be very, very busy and the towpath and water comes to life, so if you want some peace and quiet you have to find somewhere away from it all. Thank you for watching. Have a super weekend. Take care🦋🌻
WOW Vanessa, thanks for all this - I love going to the farmers markets and loved the things you bought and moved seamlessly into your home - am so inspired to grow my own leaves if you can do it on your tiny patch!! What was the white herb you snipped from your garden for your meal?
It was thyme flowers, Mary. Growing herbs is such a rewarding thing to do. Happy gardening! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
I just received your wonderful 2023 Nature Journal all the way here to Oregon, and it is delightful. I love the poems and the fine sketches/paintings . keep journaling!!
That was lovely to watch. There are so many flowers, birds and insects that we have never seen before. It's lovely that you take time to show them and draw them xx
I grew up in rural Cheshire and have returned to live here in my retirement. It remains the beautiful county of my childhood and I really enjoyed your video this week highlighting some of it's joys❤❤
Friday past we had to suddenly say goodbye to my mindful adventure girl Wally, the yellow Lab. Your video this morning was so special as Zypher’s presence with all her priceless Lab moments brought smiles and laughter. Labs are just the best. Zephyr is a reminder that there is always joy in the midst of sorrow. Thanks Vanessa for who you are and what you do. ❤
Thank you. It's lovely to hear the pleasure you take in sitting for twenty minutes observing amongst the wild flowers. A small midge crawled across my phone screen as i watched you painting at the end!
Lovely Lovely Zeph…. Licked her lips at the thought of a treat…. was kissed by a dog at a friendly meet… another heartwarming glimpse into your world Vanessa… Thankyou…😊
Absolutely love your your zest for life, and nature, fantastic artist, I walk along the macc canal, Bollington, so beautiful and chilling, I have also learnt from you names of the bridges , I also follow vice and Jo Holly the cafe boat, 😀

I now live in Cricklade on the back of a nature reserve and apparently it’s the largest reserve in the whole south of England that has the largest amount of snakehead fertilles but this year they haven’t grown as the Thames flooded the land for to long 😔😔😔which is such a shame but now it’s drying out and it’s so pretty walking though there that I ended up taking loads of pics the other day and filmed all the caterpillars busying away 🥰🥰.
Hi Vanessa, I want to thank you for your beautiful filming, commentary, and art making, and for inspiring me to take the online nature journaling course from Cornell University Bird Academy. It’s excellent and doesn’t just cover birds. As the Scandinavians say, “tusand tak!” A thousand thank yous!

Thank you ❤
I appreciate the time and effort that you put into your vlogs. They are very much appreciated. I just hope people are inspired to look more for the finer details of nature as you do.
There is something very comforting and warming about all of your films but more so the making of the tea and wondering how many biscuits are there this week 🤣
Love you and what you do.

What a superb channel, nothing better than being in nature, on the water, wonderful art, beautiful poetry, and a wagging Zeph tail 💚🌱
That is so kind of you, Jean!Thank you for your lovely comment.
Same here, I grew up in the early 60's among country lane's, ponds and streams teaming with life now all built over with new housing estates. How sad.
It’s incredible isn’t it? That is such a wonderful story too. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Lovely gentle nature filled vlog. Thank you.
Thank you so much 😊 Andrew! Take care 🌻🦋
A lovely vlog as usual, I’m always struck by the music you use, it adds so much to the video. The artisan market was really nice, love to see people passionate about their wares. Great poem at the end.

He looks like such a lovely dog.
I've done the heart break hill, they should rename it to back break hill. How do you attach your pictures to the walls? We use to use a hinge type that stuck out on the sides. Yours look so much neater.
Back break is more appropriate isn’t it! 😂 Most pictures are put up with Command strips. Thank you for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
Just lovely ❤Thankyou.

Buttercup field is so beautiful 🥰🥰🥰
It truly was a wonderful surprise to stumble on it. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Dear Vanessa,
More people need to take time and look at the miniature world which we pass by when out for a walk; whether it is a paved path in a village or an open field.
This is one of the many things I enjoy about your vlogs. You make time to view this miniature world.
Remember to treat this new canal as an adventure for yourself, Zephyr and Alice Grace.
Mark

ABSOLUTELY!!❤
Hi Mark, thank you so much for your wise words. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
They are the best bridges in on a canal here that I have seen. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care🦋🌻
Thanks, amazing. ✌🏻👊🏼
Thank you so much 😊 Have a super weekend. Take care🦋🌻
Take care🦋🌻

The Buttercup field was amazing . Thanks
It really was wonderful to see it. Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
Oh my goodness- it sounds like you had a wild time!🤩 Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat Dito have lovey day thank you .
Well, I am really looking forward to it now! 🤩 Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super week. Take care 🦋🌻
There were certainly many beautiful bridges. So nice cruising with you. The columbines were lovely and so was the orchid. My favorite part of your vlog is the poem you read and your drawings. Thanks.
