I live in a resort town with few Haitian immigrants, but I’ve already had some unfortunate encounters with them. Two of these incidents were hit-and-runs. In one case, the driver pretended to return to his vehicle to retrieve insurance information but instead drove off. In another instance, the driver pulled over, opened the hatchback to obscure the license plate, and then drove away while waiting for the police to arrive. The third incident occurred when I was taking a taxi home from the airport. The taxi booth provided me with a slip showing the fare, but the Haitian driver refused to honor it, adding extra fees on top of the fare plus the 15% tip I already offered him. He also refused to provide a receipt, cursing at me and saying, 'What the heck do you need a receipt for?’ Haitian thieves patron retail stores daily when I was a shift supervisor. That's my experience with the Haitian.

I live in a resort town with few Haitian immigrants, but I’ve already had some unfortunate encounters with them. Two of these incidents were hit-and-runs. In one case, the driver pretended to return to his vehicle to retrieve insurance information but instead drove off. In another instance, the driver pulled over, opened the hatchback to obscure the license plate, and then drove away while waiting for the police to arrive. The third incident occurred when I was taking a taxi home from the airport. The taxi booth provided me with a slip showing the fare, but the Haitian driver refused to honor it, adding extra fees on top of the fare plus the 15% tip I already offered him. He also refused to provide a receipt, cursing at me and saying, 'What the heck do you need a receipt for?’ Haitian thieves patron retail stores daily when I was a shift supervisor. That's my experience with the Haitian.

I was born in the United States. Years ago, my family moved to Canada and became Canadian citizens. I have never, in my entire life, ever encountered anyone who questioned whether I should be there or not. I was welcomed with open arms and accepted unconditionally. I wish the people of America were so welcoming to legal immigrants. How depressing that such a rich country should behave so cruelly and so selfishly.
