A brief history of Kiss for you guys. They started in 1973 wearing makeup with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley on guitar and Peter Criss on drums. They never appeared without their makeup until ‘82 or ‘83. Peter Criss left the band in 1980 and was replaced by Eric Carr (who plays on this song). Ace Frehley left a couple years later and was replaced by Vinnie Vincent. In ‘82 or ‘83 they took the makeup off for the first time when their video Lick It Up came out (and that’s why they’re photographed without showing their faces for the first part of that video). Vinnie Vincent was kicked out of the band and replaced briefly with Mark St. John and then he was replaced with Bruce Kulick (who is playing on this song). That lineup of Gene, Paul, Eric and Bruce was considered to be the second great lineup of Kiss and they stayed together until ‘92 when Eric Carr died of cancer and was replaced by Eric Singer. They stayed together until 1996 when Gene and Paul reunited with Ace and Peter (the original lineup) and they put the makeup back on permanently. Eric Carr was a tour de force and had his own powerful and distinctive sound; no ballad in the 80’s had such a distinctive beat than “Forever” IMHO. An amazing song off of a fantastic album “Hot In The Shade”. Watching you enjoy this brought such a smile to my face. 🤘🏼🙏🏼🎸
Beth is a great tune... and yes I am very aware that it's their highest charting song (been a fan since before Destroyer was released). And I have always loved Beth. But personally... it's just an opinion... but of KISS' ballads, I would choose I Still Love You as my favorite. (And I prefer the original LP version, although the MTV Unplugged version does show off what Paul's range used to be.)
Best drummer of all time! One drummer said after Eric Carr’s death that he was like John Bonham playing in the Grand Canyon. If you think this was a great performance by Paul just wait until you hear him doing the song I still love you from KISS unplugged.
This is late '80's KISS. They wore their makeup in the '70's and stopped wearing it throughout the '80's and early '90's but returned to the makeup after an MTV unplugged reunion show in the mid '90's.
No, this is later 1989 into 1990. This crossed over into top 40. Gene was a little too into acting in various movies at this time,if you ask me, he had checked out a little on writing with Kiss
Hey Rob Squad Reactions! The drummer was named Eric Carr and he sadly passed from cancer. He was known to be one of the best drummers in KISS. He is so talented and we miss he was alive still
In 2003 we literally had this song played (the actual cd) during our wedding ceremony. After my dearly departed Daddy left me at the alter hubby and I just looked at each other while this song played. So long story short, I met him through friends. They told these wild drinking stories about him and I wanted nothing to do with him. He eventually got the message and stopped. One day hanging with friends KISS was brought up in the conversation. And we were just talking about we liked and how long we were fans. At that point I had been to a couple of their concerts. We were so wrapped up we didn’t notice everyone had left the room. Next thing I knew we were dating in June and engaged in November. We got married the following August. By engagement “Forever” was our song. It was the one thing he wanted to make sure was in the wedding. We also played “I live my life for you” by Firehouse for the lighting of the unity candle. By the end of that song the preacher was singing along. I knew the song already but hubby heard it one day and said it has to be in our wedding. If you haven’t reacted to Firehouse yet your should. They are an underrated band.
This was on the Album HOT in the Shade, this video was made in 1990, the lineup at the time was: Paul Stanley- rhythm guitar/ lead vocals Gene Simmons- bass/ lead vocals Bruce Kulick- lead guitar/ background vocals Eric Carr - Drums/ lead and background vocals
I remember this song, it was on the prior album to the first Kiss album I bought growing up, Revenge, which has a single on it called "I Just Wanna," that you'll love! And another unforgettable song called "Unholy" too, and it has "God Gave Rock and Roll 2U" Great album!
This is back around 1991. During this time and on the Asylum album, Gene was playing basses made by Stuart Spector, the KING of basses. :) I may be a bit biased as I have two Spector basses. They are awesome instruments. On a personal note, when my wife and I got married, this song was our first dance. When I first suggested a KISS song as our first dance, I got quite the look from her. She's not a KISS fan....at all. Then I played the song for her and heard the words and agreed to using the song. Now it's her favorite KISS song.
This song is from the album Hot in the Shade and it was released in 1989. It was the last full album they recorded before Eric Carr passed away in 1991. He actually sings lead on the song Little Caesar. Hide Your Heart and Rise To It are also great!
Was never a huge KISS fan, but this was, and remains, both a great song and equally great video. The late 80s/early 90s were, in my view, the golden age of music videos.
by the way RIP Eric Carr (drummer), he past away a couple years after this song (1991).....the Fox was his painted KISS character took over after the Cat Peter Criss. The song was co-written by Paul Stanley and Michael Bolton.
My favorite Kiss power ballad is "God Gave Rock n Roll to You" because it's not about the love of a certain person, man or woman, it's for all of us. I like to think of it as a Universal Love/Hype Song. I also love that you can hear Paul Stanley's slight lisp in the song...somehow it adds to it. "I know life can sometimes be hard, and I know life can sometimes be a drag, but people we have been given a gift. We have been given a road...and the name of that road is Rock n Roll"....classic!
The song was co-written by Paul Stanley and Michael Bolton. Released January 5, 1990. The drummer Eric Carr died the next year from a rare heart cancer November 24, 1991 =(
I play this song everyday on guitar I love it that much. This came out in the 90s so its not early KISS. I saw KISS back in the 70s and they were like nothing else. Y'all rock !!
I'm 61 years old and I've been a kiss fan since 1977, where I saw them for the first time when they opened up or when ACDC opened up for them. They are great. You young guys are really cool for loving kiss. Especially you rob and as for your question. I'm watching this video on my TV right now. This song is from 1991. This was Eric Carr's last performance. With kiss he died of heart cancer shortly after this
This is KISS in their glory from 1989. This song was co written by Michael Bolton. Yeah that Michael Bolton - the same artist that sang Time, Love and Tenderness. KISS fans were really stunned by this one. This is truly Paul Stanley at his vocal best. The acoustic guitar solo on here is by Bruce Kulick and Gene Simmons is playing an acoustic bass. Wow 😮
Thank you for this! I have been waiting for you to react to this song for sooooo long. Eric Carr on drums, Bruce Kulick on lead guitar, and of course Gene and Paul. This song was recorded in 1989. Gene looks so hot in this video. One of my favorite KISS songs.
my favorite band was kiss since 1989, when the album that this song was on came out! recently kiss has been knocked out of that spot by the most talented young group of sisters called THE WARNING! i know you guys love great drummers and paulina is up there with the best of the best! i know you guys will fall in love with them! "survive ( live at TedX)" is the perfect introduction to this group and IT IS FEMALE FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys would love "Sure know something" it's off the same album as "I was made for lovin you" and has a cool video! By the way, they were the first concert I ever went to, way back in 1979, and believe it or not I was 4 years old! HAHA! As for today's selection., "Forever" is off their 1989 album "Hot in the shade". The makeup came off in 1982 and they spent about 14 years and several albums without it until the reunion with Ace and Peter in 1996.
I seen them for my first time in 1977, I was 5 years old my uncle took me, I was so blown away. BTW Since that first time I have now seen them 78 times, in 1996 seen them 3 times in 4 days, and 12 times on that reunion tour. I have seen them on 13 different tours since 77, with the reunion shows, Rock the Nation, and current tour as my favorites. Even though saying one over another is quite difficult TBH.
@@Rocky-N-Angel 78 times is impressive! My hats off to you! I saw them in '79. once on the Revenge tour, twice during the late 90s with Ace and Peter back, and once in a smaller setting of about 1,000. They did this small club tour in 1991 or 92 and it was at little Center Stage Theater in Atlanta. That was a great show! I also met them and got my pic taken with Gene and Paul! They did this autograph tour in the summer of 1993 for Alive III. Paul was cool but Gene was amazing. They told us going in that the band could sign one item only. I had a Dynasty program and the 8x11 they gave everyone. He said "Sorry about the wait." and I said, "It's ok, it was worth it!" He smiled and signed the program and quickly grabbed the photo and signed that too. It was a very cool moment. You wanted the best...you got the best!
@@jonbaggett2773 Nice memories you have as well. I have met them all in separate situations individually never as the band in whole or with make-up.I will one day go through and see how much I have spent on concert tickets just for KISS. I also seen Pantera 11 times from 93-2001. I do remember spending $500 each for 2nd row at the Psycho Circus tour, and 3rd row at the Reunion tour. I use to be at a concert as an attendant every week seeing someone. I also had the hook up for tickets, as I worked security for venues here in Cincinnati Ohio, It had it's perks. My late teens to my early 30's was filled with concerts, since then I see maybe 4 shows a year on average. Very few have experienced what we have that is for sure. We will have some very vivid memories of those times as well. Thanks for your story I enjoyed the read. Have a great day.
Their best power ballad is "I Still Love You", which will give you CHILLS. While I'm not always a fan of live versions if songs, the live version if this one is outstanding.
Young Kiss is Kiss in makeup... this is in the late 80s early 90s when they took off the makeup out of respect for the makeup. They decided to do something they never had done, and it worked. They put the makeup back on when they reunited in 1998 for the Psycho Circus album. They have a crazy, roller coaster career that is quite interesting to learn about.
A little Kisstory for you guys. They hit the music scene in 1973. From 1973-1980 the band was Paul, Gene, Peter Criss(drums) and Ace Frehley(guitar). Peter left and Eric Carr joined in 1980 Eric Carr died from heart cancer in 1991 and was replaced with Eric Singer. Ace left in 1982 and Vinnie Vincent joined, Vinnie then left in 1984 and Mark st. John left(medical reasons) in 1985 and Bruce Kulic joined Bruce stayed until they reunited with the original members in 1997. Also, From 1973-1984 they did not allow themselves to be photographed without the makeup. They took the makeup of in '83 before the "Lick it Up" album. They put the makeup back on in 1997 when they did a reunion tour. They currently tour in full makeup and stage show with Paul, Gene, Tommy Thayer(guitar- wearing Ace makeup) and Eric Singer(drums- wearing Peter's makeup) The band in the "forever" video is Paul, Gene, Bruce Kulick(guitar) and the awesome Eric Carr on drums(his last time appearing with the band before passing away, he begged the doctors to let leave the hospital to record this video) That said all music you see of the band without makeup is from the 80's.
Great track. I discovered KISS around this time and this is one of my favourites eras from the band. They had a hit single with this in the USA in early 1990 and went out on a massive tour behind the current album and hit single. The staging featured a massive sphinx that shot lasers, had loads of pyro and effects. The band were still really active on stage, running all over the place. They played for 2 hours most nights. This was a really cool time to be a KISS fan. Its a shame the drummer Eric Carr died of cancer a within 2 years of this era.
This is 7 months old, your overdue for more kiss! Deuce, strutter, and black diamond. The last two sung by the drummer Peter criss. All three are fire!!!
This is from around 1990. They did the makeup from early 70s until 1983. They took off the makeup until the original band reunited in 1996. They're still wearing the makeup now but have different guitarist and drummer.
Early rock n' roll music was amazing for many of us. Please react to the legendary Bobby Rydell .. he came out in the fifties. Singer, dancer, comedian, actor, drummer, a performer of excellence, Bobby is iconic and was known for a golden voice! After more than a 5-decade long career, he sadly just passed a few months ago. He was known for kindness too. Biggest hits : VOLARE, SWAY, FORGET HIM, ITTY BITTY GIRL, I'VE GOT BONNIE, THE CHA CHA , THE BEST MAN CRIED, I'LL NEVER DANCE AGAIN, WILDWOOD DAYS , ONE GIRL, THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC and countless covers ....much of his music taught many of us kids about love.
Acoustic Guitar was Beautiful in this! Wonderful Song. :) Couldn't figure out during the song, unlike most songs, exactly how Amber was feeling about the song.
"Toast notification 🔔 bell, lolol 😂 😂 ...Jay, Amber, ...You Two are Lovely and Amazing! I wiss You could have experienced the '80's with so many of us, ...it was a Great time for Sure!! Bob P, Mid Coast, Maine. 😊😊
Anything from Kiss Unplugged is amazing. I am a life long Kiss fan. Started when I was 7, I'm in my 50s now. You can always find something from them to enjoy.
Saw the opening show of this tour in Lubbock, TX in May 1990 when i was a freshman in high school. MTV's Headbangers Ball was there, and Slaughter and Faster Pussycat were opening acts.
This music video was from 1989... the non-makeup era of Kiss (The makeup era was from 1973 to 1982... and then the reunion in 1996 til today). The album was 'Hot in the shade' and it was a gold record (half million copies sold) in the US, and 'Forever' was the big hit single... Apparently, famous crooner Michael Bolton co-wrote the song w/ Paul Stanley (Bolton had been in a band w/ Kiss lead guitarist Bruce Kulick)... Stanley said Bolton got credit but, he wrote the bulk of the track. A while ago, Kiss fans voted on VH1 for their most popular 'power ballad', and 'Forever' made the list over other Kiss hit ballads like 'Beth'... 'Hard luck woman'... and 'Shandi' (which were from Kiss' makeup era). The original Kiss was in makeup w/ Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley (lead guitar) and Peter Criss (drums) from 1973 until 1979, when they had dominated the 70's decade. However, Peter Criss was out of the band in 1980 (his skills were compromised by drug & alcohol abuse), even tho he appeared on the cover of the 'Unmasked' album in '80, he did not play on it. Eric Carr (drums) was picked in 1980 and became the 'Fox' character in makeup and did the tour... However, by 1982, Ace Frehley also left Kiss due to his addictions... Kiss hired lead guitarist Vinnie Vincent (he assumed the Egyptian wizard character) to do the 1982/'83 tour, but it was a disaster... album sales were poor, concert ticket sales were worse. In 1983, Kiss decided to take off the makeup to promote the 'Lick it up' album. Paul Stanley felt that the makeup belonged to the original 4 personalities, and the band had changed, so the makeup was not viable in the 80's. It worked... Kiss saw huge record sales in 1983 and toured without makeup successfully for the first time... However, Vinnie Vincent was let go in 1984... Mark St. John (lead guitar) did the 'Animalize' album in '84, but a health condition kept him from touring... Bruce Kulick (lead guitar) did the tour and was asked to join Kiss soon after. After Eric Carr died in 1991, Eric Singer (drums) joined for the 'Revenge' album in 1992, but the non-makeup Kiss saw their popularity decline on the 1992/ '94 tour. The reunion w/ Peter Criss and Ace Frehley came about when Kiss performed for 'MTV Unplugged' in 1995... They announced that the original Kiss was back together in makeup for a world tour in 1996. However, that reunion ended by 2001 as clashes mounted between the band and Frehley & Criss. Eric Singer (drums) began performing in Peter Criss' makeup since 2001... Tommy Thayer (lead guitar) started performing in Ace's makeup since 2002.
Yeah i love this era of KISS with Bruce Kulick on lead guitar. I love Ace, but Bruce is brilliant and I think his acoustic playing when it fits the song is just fantastic. Seeing them both on the MTV Unplugged is the best example of just how overall of a talented band they all were/are.
KISS got a lot of grief from a lot of the long time fans when this song came out. Not because it was a ballad, but because it was co-written by Michael Bolton. So many people just could not get over the fact that Paul would collaborate with Bolton of all people.
What I like about Kiss is not only they are all talented but versatile in many styles of music. They have even done a TV movie Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park. A good Halloween type movie with a mad inventor and Kiss superpowers, lol. Not a great movie but a fun one to watch.
they were experimenting differant types of music that came out with that song b4 they split up, they were all going out on their own coming out with their own style of music. they had differant albumsgoing solo. then they got back together and became bigger then they were before. i am a big fan of kiss. i grew up with these guys. seen them in concert at least 3 times i can remember, lol, even went one time an didnt get in cause i got to drunk there were about 30 of us having a big party out in the parking lot right before we were to go in. well they are an awesome group.
1990 Kiss, after they took off the makeup. Drummer Eric Carr's last video, he was desperately ill during this. I often like to think it's partly about him.
This song was written by Paul Stanley and Michael Bolton (yes, THAT Michael Bolton). The lead guitarist for KISS at this time was a great guy named Bruce Kulick, who years before had been in a rock band known as Black Jack with...Michael Bolton.
KISS was (individually) strongly influenced by The Beatles and somewhat like The Beatles in that their library is very diverse, with a wide range of music variety
Seen them March 1985 in LaCrosse Wisconsin, this was their first tour without makeup. Was a really good concert, Dokken opened for them. Tickets $12.50
Any video you see of KISS without makeup is 80’s. They started in makeup in the 70’s, took it off in the 80’s, and put it back on in the 90’s. I’m sure they would be flattered that you thought this was them when they were younger and just starting.
This was wedding song in 1993. I believe this came out around 1990 or 91. The song I Still Love You from MTV unplugged is a must they were at their pinnacle.
This one was from a stretch where some of the bands dropped the makeup. Kiss and Alex Cooper where the two I always remember cause it threw everyone to see their "naked" faces. The makeup came back. That was early 90s.
Every time I hear this song can't help but think when you need a hit make that call to one Desmond child who wrote so many hits in the 80's and not to many know it
Eric Carr was such a great drummer! Rest in peace
So true. His drumming really punches up this song, and all of the music he played on. RIP Eric.

(And I prefer the original LP version, although the MTV Unplugged version does show off what Paul's range used to be.)
This was the song my wife and I danced to for our first dance.
A great KISS power ballad. RIP Eric Carr, an amazing drummer. 🥁🛢️
RIP Eric Carr. The best KISS drummer.
Best drummer of all time! One drummer said after Eric Carr’s death that he was like John Bonham playing in the Grand Canyon. If you think this was a great performance by Paul just wait until you hear him doing the song I still love you from KISS unplugged.
AMAZING.Those DRUMS brings POWER to the music.
KISS - "I Still Love You" is a must listen! The unplugged version
Love this song it was actually the song played for the bride and groom’s first dance at my wedding
Jay, Amber!! ...NO, ...this IS the Much More Modern Kiss of 1990! I remember it just like it was yesterday! 😊😊
Bob P. Mid Coast, Maine. 😊
Yeah‼️‼️‼️‼️ Great song drums 🥁 great soft guitar 🎸 beautiful voices on this one 🤩😍🥰
That’s cool congrats
This was on the Album HOT in the Shade, this video was made in 1990, the lineup at the time was:
Paul Stanley- rhythm guitar/ lead vocals
Gene Simmons- bass/ lead vocals
Bruce Kulick- lead guitar/ background vocals
Eric Carr - Drums/ lead and background vocals
I remember this song, it was on the prior album to the first Kiss album I bought growing up, Revenge, which has a single on it called "I Just Wanna," that you'll love! And another unforgettable song called "Unholy" too, and it has "God Gave Rock and Roll 2U" Great album!
Both MUST HEAR Classics,, KISS "Calling Dr. Love" & "Shout It Out Loud"
My favorite song by KISS. So glad you reacted to this song. 🤘
1989
They were HUUUUGE in the 70s Their best years EASY
I never really was a die-hard KISS fan, but I LOVE this song. I'm a sucker for a good power ballad, and this is definitely full of power!
With kiss he died of heart cancer shortly after this
This was 15 yrs into their career. It's from Hot In The Shade, their 15th album, released in 1989. This song was co-written by Michael Bolton.
I had this song played in my wedding to my wife.
The way I belted out this song in my room during Spring 1990. (Sophomore year of high school for me), Fun memories.
Thank you! This is my favorite KISS song
The requisite power ballad that every rock band in the 80's needed....
One of the best songs from 1990
This is KISS in their glory from 1989.
Jon is correct! Sure Know Something is one of if not the most melodic songs Kiss has recorded. Either the original video or the MTV Unplugged version.
It was a great Lp in the EARLY 90s
Very underrated song by them.
One of my favorite songs. I saw them live in 1979. I was 6 years old. Thank You Momma! Rest In Eternal Peace Momma! 💐🙌🏼💞🥰🥹
Butterfly Bush below did an excellent job summarizing KISS' history! One of my favorite KISS songs is "Unholy", a real headbanger! Rock on! \m/
They currently tour in full makeup and stage show with Paul, Gene, Tommy Thayer(guitar- wearing Ace makeup) and Eric Singer(drums- wearing Peter's makeup)
The band in the "forever" video is Paul, Gene, Bruce Kulick(guitar) and the awesome Eric Carr on drums(his last time appearing with the band before passing away, he begged the doctors to let leave the hospital to record this video)
That said all music you see of the band without makeup is from the 80's.
Paul's voice????
You MUST watch "I Still Love You" from Kiss Unplugged.
🤟😝
This song was with Bruce Kulick on guitar and the late Eric Carr on drums.
I love, love, love kiss...older stuff more, but in this song that short little guitar solo, I think, really makes this song!!!
This Powerballad is from the Album Hot In The Shade released in 1989. By the way Michael Bolton wrote this song for Kiss.
You gotta check out the live video for Deuce from 1975, KISS in black and white! Classic!
Acoustic Guitar was Beautiful in this! Wonderful Song. :) Couldn't figure out during the song, unlike most songs, exactly how Amber was feeling about the song.
Y'all should hear "Psycho Circus", by KISS, since *Halloween* is coming up.
"Toast notification 🔔 bell, lolol 😂 😂
...Jay, Amber, ...You Two are Lovely and Amazing! I wiss You could have experienced the '80's with so many of us, ...it was a Great time for Sure!!
Bob P, Mid Coast, Maine. 😊😊
My favorite KISS song!!!!
Anything from Kiss Unplugged is amazing. I am a life long Kiss fan. Started when I was 7, I'm in my 50s now. You can always find something from them to enjoy.
80’s-90’s KISS!!!!! So many Great Songs!!!#Rabbit Hole
My favorite thing my husband does is play acoustic guitar and sing me to sleep and Forever is one of my faves that he'll sing to me.❤
My first album was Kiss Rock n Roll Over. “Hard Luck Woman is a great tune from that album. Peter Criss the Drummer sings lead.
Gene always brings the warm base tone of his voice in to the mix
Another great power ballad song by Kiss is I Still Love You off of the Creatures of the Night album!
This is after they took their makeup off. They have so many ballads. Glad you're enjoying. Be well.
KISS got a lot of grief from a lot of the long time fans when this song came out. Not because it was a ballad, but because it was co-written by Michael Bolton. So many people just could not get over the fact that Paul would collaborate with Bolton of all people.
This song came out in late 1989/ 1990 it hit #8. It was their first Top 40 hit in 10 years at that point, and their last overall.
This is a KISS song no one reacts to, but is one of my favorite......C’mon and Love Me
What I like about Kiss is not only they are all talented but versatile in many styles of music.
All right my babies.... Just hearing the name of the band is fire 🔥 ‼️💯🤘🏼😎🤘🏼😊
This song was written by Paul Stanley and Michael Bolton. What a duo:) I love it:)
KISS was (individually) strongly influenced by The Beatles and somewhat like The Beatles in that their library is very diverse, with a wide range of music variety
*Early Kiss will always have make-up on. Kiss started taking the make-up off in 1983. This song came out in 1989.*
The late and great Eric Carr on the drums, such a sweet soul gone too soon. Always loved, always missed.
This one was from a stretch where some of the bands dropped the makeup. Kiss and Alex Cooper where the two I always remember cause it threw everyone to see their "naked" faces. The makeup came back. That was early 90s.
And for the trivia nuts the song was co-written by Paul Stanley and Michael Bolton.
Drummer Eric Carr passed so young of a brain aneurysm and I cried for days. Eric Carr was the best of the best!!
Every time I hear this song can't help but think when you need a hit make that call to one Desmond child who wrote so many hits in the 80's and not to many know it
Guys this was either 89 or 1991....Great song and shows them playing different instruments and a power ballad
