It's very common in the West, especially in the US, for people to assume that propaganda doesn't really exist in our society. Sure, those other countries brainwash their citizens, but not us! Ground news is free* more than it is free. The full version is paywalled, but what it gives you for free is more than functional. Also the paid version is worthwhile imo and fairly cheap

I suspect embarrassment at play. Here in the UK there's something of a denial condition from those who voted for brexit in accepting how much harm it's causing. Mistakes that hit on an intelligence and clarity level are the hardest ones to apologise for.
How to spot propaganda 101:
Whenever you read a piece of news, an article, a blogpost or a tweet: Ask yourself this:
"Who gains from this?"
The "how" and "why" come almost automatically after this.

One phrase used that always struck me as weird as a European was "quiet quitting" i thought it was doing no work till you are fired, but is actually "not exceeding expectations and requirements for your job to benefit your employer for no additional pay"
I heard rich influencers scream at people calling them losers for it.
"They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work."
So, are people losing interest in climbing the corporate ladder? Maybe that's just as well. Maybe we should spend more time focusing on our mental and physical health, not how many toys we own.

The propaganda in neo-liberalism is real! This video really opened my eyes. I lost my job in February due to going back to school to better myself and opportunities. I applied for unemployment (I live in Texas) and I was denied for the simple fact that I won’t quit school for a job opportunity. Poverty is real as well. It’s right in front of our eyes.

I really can't thank my parents enough for stressing the importance of critical thinking when I was growing up.
My father used to tell me a story about how his mother would occasionally ask him "why do you think they're telling you this?" During news segments or commercials.
What a wonderful parent. Mine did the opposite.
Same... I will always remember what my father told me. "You know when you should get really worried? When it looks like everyone around you is agreeing with you all the time" (and vice versa)

There are alot of flat earthers that claim they are the only ones that really think critical. Critical thinking has many forms. Just depends what your source of criticism is. Scientific knowledge or just plane old mystical stories.

Propaganda exists for everything, not just politics. You may not be immune to it, but you can train your mind to recognize it when it shows up. When you can easily see it, it’s insane how much of it exists in our daily lives. If you’re able to recognize it, you can see for what it is and not let it influence you.

I haven’t watched mainstream news media in a long time and I’ve become less extreme in political views because I’m not having thoughts and ideas pushed into me, I’m formulating them on my own. One reason I don’t trust mainstream news is that one compilation of news channels saying the exact same thing about fake info and disinformation- as 60-70 channels say the exact same thing in unison.
Also, people overthink propaganda a bunch too, if they see something they disagree with, they will automatically yell "PROPAGANDA!!!"

I mean if you really just think about it for a second it quickly becomes clear that the definition of propaganda encompasses practically all forms of communication besides casually hanging out with friends or mindless shit posting. Almost everything we say to each other on a societal level is a direct attempt to influence others' behavior.
I think the real lesson is that propaganda is just a thing that is, like gases in the atmosphere. Some of it's great, some of it's terrible, most of it is just... There.

The way you're aware of your own bias and share that openly is very respectable.

This neoliberal framework is what really turned me off of economics as a field. I majored in International Studies, so economics was an important class when it came to making connections about the state of the globalized world. It's a useful framework for understanding the way that many states interact in the modern day, but the way that economists tend to frame everything in terms of profit was frustrating. I feel like they would even place a numerical value on happiness if they could. In some ways I get it though. By establishing all of these different aspects of life within a numerical framework, it helps to legitimize these things in the eyes of neoliberal governments. but it was till somewhat depressing to see everything simplified down into profits and expenses. It's not until you start looking into other areas of political science that you actually start seeing people place emphasis on the intangible aspects of life, like happiness, access to clean resources, and an ability to learn and communicate ideas. The entire framework of life as a marketplace is exhausting
Economics used to called "Political Economy". Which it still is.
I too find such framework exhausting, not because of economics itself, which I find extremely interesting to learn about and which has worked wonders to stop many of the old world's problems, but because a lot of people nowadays are replacing religion, ethics and morality with wealth and social status, which of course could never lead to happiness, because there is always a more expensive thing to buy. Also, economists frame everything in terms of profit because that's all companies generally want, and the reason economic liberalism was created in the first place is to take people's greed and turn it into a contribution to society, for you can not make a profit without offering a good or service at a good price and/or quality, although some still think they can make everything into a mathematical equation, which I believe is not possible.

As a small child my father was stationed at Key West during the Cuban Missile crisis.Our house was nearby on Big Coppitt Key. Even as a 4 year old watching cartoons , short snips of notifications would occasionally appear on the television warning viewers not to “give heed or credence to propaganda”. When I asked my mother what “propaganda” was , she just said it was rumors or lies people tell. She didn’t tell me then just how insidious it can truly be, and that was a very scary time for most of the adults around me at the time.
If you ever see something on the news, instead of embracing what you feel, ask yourself “what are they trying to get me to feel and why?”

I've been doing that everytime I watch the state tv news here in France (which is rarely). Most of the times it looked like they showed some other country where people had it worse and were struggling with political or financial instability and then talk about one of macron shitty reforms or people protesting in the country. Seemed to me like it was made in a way to make you feel like it's not that bad here and you should accept your living conditions getting a little worse and not protest because you are lucky and people are having it worse elsewhere.
Sometimes it was really obvious like showing us some extremely violent protest repression in the middle east or africa and right afterward talking about protests in france to make it seem like police isn't being too violent here... I mean they have to talk about both subjects but when they put them right to each other like that it's weird. The comparisons with our retirement system also where also biased, they always compare the retirement age across EU countries but forget other parameters than the age that are already worse here.

To see that, you have to look beyond "he doesn't care about homeless people", the sentiment his plan overwhelmingly provoked.
In life i follow logic who is profiting and in what way when ever I watch something, one of the reason I knew vaccines for covid were 100% fine since it would have cost corporations too much otherwise.
I took a statistics class in college and one part of the curriculum was how statistics can be manipulated. I think both of these should be mandatory learning in high school.

It goes from showing that black people have high criminal behavior to show the criminal system is unjust.

Without the free market, technology wouldn't exist to provide quality healthcare to anyone, let alone everyone. It encourages competition and innovation, things that don't exist in a socialized system.

"What good is neo-liberalism?" Neo Liberalism strokes that part of our mind that says "Maybe I'll be the next billionaire?" despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary. Among people who ultimately think they're better than others, Neo Liberalism offers them the dream of one day righting the world to the way "it's supposed to be."
It's the ultimate "carrot on a stick". The impossible-to-maintain "grindset mentality" - and, along that vein, "monetising your life" and commodification of essentials like housing & food - are kept alive by the flase stories of the "self-made billionaires." They've _always_ got a substantial head start from well-to-do parents and living in an area where schools are better funded - and they don't have to worry about getting enough to eat or being profiled by police just for existing, so they know their future is secured to "follow their dreams" - and many went to expensive private schools & had tutors & other extra help. Not to mention that paying people to work for you is not the same thing as working, yourself. If their _company's_ ideas & innovations all came from "the collective", then it didn't come from them; they own the company, and the _ideas_ brought by anyone within.
In fact, Second Thought has done some great pieces on the socially propagated story. It's been especially popular in tech mags & as a TV news fluff piece - dinosaurs well on their way to extinction - but also with the tech-futurists in a resurgence mostly as a social media phenomenon - which is being slowly picked apart by an increasing few, ever more onlookers seeing it laid out in the open, found out for the farce that it is. Fingers crossed for humanity...?

Also a key word business likes to use to describe their workforce is family. I hear all the time “Here we work like a family.” That should be a major red flag. It’s just shorthand to say expect to work multiple positions you didn’t apply for or get less hours. If you complain you’re told to be more flexible or get hours cut. Yet most businesses today love to describe themselves as “acting like a family.”
And it's still technically true, based on the toxic notion of "family" that they have, which is a authoritarian figure who is within their legal rights to abuse and manipulate. They always try to supplant the regular definition with their definition, until it IS the regular definition.

I think this might be your best video yet. Connecting the dots to the subtle manipulations of it all is the hardest part because it's the most insidious stuff of the whole neoliberal project. This sort of propaganda has worked to make explicitly capitalist and market oriented ideas into "common sense", and once something is that ingrained it's harder to get people to look at it critically. The cadence of this video, the way you ramp into deconstructing exactly that "common sense", is just top notch.
Antonio Gramsci knew how it worked and wrote about it at a very high level of intellectual development. I recommend Gramsci to anyone.

Oh my, it feels so great to have someone from another country deconstructing Macron's rethoric, I (and my work union) spend so much time getting angry about it that I have this looming fear of overthinking it. Thank you for this.
Also, I really understand what you say about getting any job just because the market asks for it. I'm a (fixed-term) archaeologist and since my profession doesn't comply to the terms of immediate productivity and wealth creation, any time I can't find work feels like the government is frowning at me for being a lazy f*** unable to be useful to society, or for being so self-centered by trying to do the craft I like and studied for.
Where I’m from in the US, farming is taught to be a shining example of good, honest work. What isn’t mentioned is the behind-closed-doors fights between equipment manufacturers and their underpaid workers. Worse still, in states that don’t have as many people who want to be farmers, they “make-do” by using labor from undocumented immigrants who either are just looking for any income whatsoever or who are tricked into working in the worst conditions for the worst pay with the ever-present risk of their “employer” choosing to deport them if they disobey.

Propaganda by its proper definition is a tool, it is neither good nor bad. It’s how it gets used that matters. Propaganda truly supporting the common good of the people is very different from union-busting presentations.
I'm not immune to propaganda! I try to remind myself of this on occasion and actively take steps to mitigate the propaganda I'm taking in (for example I NEVER watch "the news" and I avoid a lot of social media like Facebook) but obviously that isn't a perfect system either. In my experience, the people who think they are above it or immune to it are often the ones who end up being the most susceptible. A lot of people seem to struggle with general media literacy too.
On point. I reject mass social networks like Twitter, Reddit and Facebook as well as the news which is just as polarizing. The only mass social media I do use is TH-cam of course, in which case I watch mostly engineering or gaming content.
I do get wary of channels that provoke the idea that "if only you thought a bit more, you'd agree with me" (example: the author of this video "second thought") so I approached this with a critical eye. I agree that exploitation is rampant but (in my circles at least) we generally applaud each other for doing things we like rather than what gets us more money instead of shame each other for having high standards for ourselves. If his goal was to show us how someone can push a package deal of ideas by giving a practical demonstration, I respect that.
I have a leftist bias, but when I listen to leftist coverage on issues I'm still looking for the subtle choices in framing that display the biases. They're rarely straight up lying like right-wing grifters are, though.

I feel you. I dont watch news and avoid stalkbook, but it is also a lost to me as I do not know what happens in the world. At least, not knowing next mess gov/celebrity/corpo/religious figure/random people made give me some peace from feeling helpless but I am not fighting either.

Nobody is immune to propaganda, because when fall under its effect is doesn’t feel like propaganda. I’ve got plenty of friends who think that the U.S doesn’t do propaganda, it frightening to know that you are under the effect of some form of propaganda without knowing it.

Bias is bias. Human nature is molded by local and environmental upbringing.
You can't just "hit" one person with all the knowledge and values in the same span of time. You're gonna kill that person to death with overload.
There is none what I call "true, unbiased" idea. There is always some semblance of propaganda, and it shows in this video. I do not wish to target it in a harmful manner, but one can clearly see what he is advocating.
Biases are prevalent. This man is simply well in presenting his point.

Just like everything else Orwell wrote, it sounds profound but in reality it's absolutely stupid due to his ignorance about any given subject, there are tons of arts that don't involve in any sort of propaganda, for example some landscape painters just like to paint clouds, there is no message whatsoever, only a smart fool would believe all things must have deeper meanings.

A big thing I've noticed recently is that even if you are very motivated in other areas of your life, i.e., exercise or hobbies, if you are not super motivated when it comes to work (something that creates capital) you are considered by many to be lazy.
This is a unsettling truth because it really doesn't matter how intelligent you are or perceive to be, literally everyone is brainwashed into believing something. Even if you are extra attentive and careful there's going to be something that slips through the cracks.
Even this video, in places. There's quite a bit of "the elites have set this system up from scratch" being implied, where the truth is they commandeered a system and then rigged it in their favour. People will create markets instinctively, that's how they became things in the first place.

Adam Curtis’ 3 part documentary ‘The Century of the Self’ (can be found on TH-cam) covers the history and effects of propaganda, Edward Bernays, consumerism, individualism, and much more. It’s one of my favourite documentaries of all time. I’d really recommend both if you found this video interesting.

I’ve had conversations with people who insist democracy shouldn’t exist in the workplace. If not in the workplace then where? People aren’t happy about the way things work but they lack the ability to look at things through a class analysis lens. They aren’t taught the language to do so.

I spent 6 months in the country nicaragua. It is the 2nd poorest country on the western hemisphere only to Hati. I have never been happier in my entire life. With less luxuries, the people made up for it with communal living and better connection with one another. I'm not saying it was perfect; for from it actually. However, they had much better public transportation for most people that couldn't afford a car, better socialized Healthcare for everyone including noncitizens and food was abundant even for those unable to afford to eat at restaurants. I was blown away with how different life could be once all the luxuries of america were taken away. It reminded me how much we DO need each other... Don't believe in any of the corporate propaganda they try to shove down your throats. We were built to survive in cooperation with nature, but it only works if we appreciate each other and collaborate together... and 1 more thing, remember to enjoy the little things, like a freshly squeezed lemonade on a hot summer day :)

Even as a young teen I started recognizing that greed is easily the worst human trait. The vast majority of conflicts throughout human history can be boiled down to greed. Humans love to exploit everyone and everything for their own profit. I went into physical therapy to help others, but also for a decent living, yet I haven't had a raise in 10 years! Reimbursement rates haven't risen in decades for us while insurances keep seeing record profits. People say "find a different job!" Well, I've changed locations, but when rates haven't risen, no one can offer raises. My degree is in PT, not like I can just change careers at the drop of a hat. I'm trying to get us to unionize but people are so brainwashed, I don't ever see it happening. Greed is killing this country (US) and most the world.

You know what I find ridiculous US is all about first commandment the right to carry guns when government becomes tyrannical then why was there no guns visible when government baned railroad strikes? Was that not Tyranny banning freedom of speech and freedom of choice? What we should do is establish something like go fund me for railroad workers so they can all quit the job at the same times, but still survive and watch as it all burn in to the ground.

You have to accept that you're in a world of influence and inspiration. Thinking for yourself and taking all the you hear and see and analyzing them with what you already know is such a valuable skill for everything you do. Do this for everything you see on TH-cam, even with channels you agree with and enjoy, such as this one, Second Thought. It will exercise your ability to craft your own path. It might be tough and you might not always get it perfectly right, but what matters is that you're doing this for yourself.

Though my teacher in later primary school was big on tech, computers, & The Web, and on understanding how it all works and how to stay safe - from individuals who would do personal harm to us (especially as small kids), and also from the increasingly sketchy sources of questionable information with a slant that all points to a specific farce or another...
I think we _all_ loathed having to do the dreaded BIBLIOGRAPHY for every paper, for the first couple of years anyway, just cos it was tedious. But many of us realised its greater importance... It was more than _just_ "showing your work," as it were (pre-ChatGPT, but ofc kids still took shortcuts & cheated). It was to ensure that we didn't just plagiarise, and that our sources were legit: citing your sources allows the teacher to see you've genuinely searched up info far & wide. And it's how I learned what's a "tabloid", for an extreme example. It's not like I gave any worth to those ridiculous rags ("Bat Boy _Returns!"_ heh, classic - there was even a joke about tabloids in the movie "Men In Black") but it was good to understand in concrete terms that some "news" is literally just entirely made up stories, for... _someone's_ entertainment. Little could we know how prevalent "bending the truth" (and outright making it up) would become, across the journalistic world and beyond, blurring the once-distinct lines between "journalism", "obvious farce for entertainment purposes", and "something else entirely"...
But it was nevertheless very useful for me even now, well into adulthood. It leaves me baffled as to how easy people are tricked, manipulated, and swayed. And, though it stings to admit, _I_ had fallen for some of it, too, especially copaganda, and for so long. That one took a long time to fully shake off. I had to see some really awful stuff for myself... At least there was always a seed of distrust sown by none other than my parents, who both lived through a time, before I was born, when nobody was safe in our country, regardless of race or so-called "middle class". It never hit me like it should have until well after I had cleared my head and seen the truth. Sorry, I'm realising this is becoming more of a journal than a shared set of thoughts on a topic, but...
Yeah, propaganda works, even for folks who believe they "would never fall for something so transparent, designed for some gullible patsy". At least I was never to the right of "liberal" at worst, but it does make you think. It's a confidence scam, in large part. Attach political ideology to personal identity (nationality, trust in police & the military, "marked" groups, etc.) and any objection is a _"personal attack."_ But I digress. Lol. Sorry.

We did this kind of news analysis (18:40) in one of my journalism classes back in college. Took a look at the same stories in a few different papers and paid close attention to what each one focused on specifically, and what words they used when describing things. Everyone knows news sources have their biases, but it's interesting to actually put them together and look at it.
I took a class on “Critical Discourse Analysis” (apparently British) and it’s pretty good. Talks about different “people” words, such as woman vs mother vs beauty etc, or action words like “tried” or “refused to”. Obviously there’s tons of examples but I can throw some terms around if it sounds familiar
I was obsessed with it last semester, it’s my freshman year and learning things like this is a bit new to me lol

@@Nota-Skaven it's even worse than that imo, if you take someone who doesn't know how much unemployment pays, and asked them to come up with an amount that allows someone (or if you want to be "courageously" reasonable, their family or even half a family) to survive, virtually everyone would come up with an amount that's higher than what you get from unemployment. So actual jobs not only pay worse than what unemployment was very likely intended to be, an amount of money that may not allow you to thrive, but at least survive hard times, keep some dignity and allow the continuation of the working class instead of leading to the end of humanity. They pay worse than the absolutely gutted, pathetic excuse for unemployment we have today, who no one would reasonably expect anyone else to survive on.
Got news for ya buddy. Under capitalism you only get paid what your worth. If your getting paid $1 per hour you need to take some responsibility and improve your value (get education, learn new skills, switch jobs, start a company, just some examples). Why would we pay bums that are objectively value less to us unemployment for absolutely nothing.

One thing that I think should be mentioned is that it it part of how the human mind works that the more a person hears something, the more they are likely to believe it. With or without any evidence for it. That is why "the narrative" is a thing. Corporations and politicians want you to hear the same thing over and over and over again until you believe it without thinking.
Knowing how easy it is to be manipulated like that, I explored many different view points when I was younger, but now that I know what different factions say vs what they do, I don't bother with the right-wing corporate bubble any more. They will say anything, but when it's their time to do something they will always cut taxes on the rich, then use the lack of funding to justify cutting public programs, which they use to cut taxes on the rich. Same game plan every time

I remember being shouted down for being "unpatriotic" for speaking out against the war in Iraq. Regarding Neoliberalist capitalism, I remember Andrew Yang mentioned that there was a theory that people who worked old jobs could be trained for new jobs and all would be well. Yang checked the numbers and stated that instead of adapting, people overdosed on drugs and committed suicide. This neoliberalist capitalism has put many people in society in a very bad position.
I remember most people I know weren't happy about the war in Iraq it was definitely unnecessary
One thing I always say is that one of the best ways to take care of veterans is to make fewer of them.
And by that I mean have fewer soldiers and less trauma for the ones we do have, not, like, blowing them up.
I see this a lot even with my fellow scientists and med school folk, there’s a lot of ways to get across misinformation that’s attractive because it’s logic adjacent and feeds off our desire to believe things.
The problem that I have come across is understanding that I don’t know it all and sometimes it’s tricky to see on how they word things but the bottom line is most people is conditioned and will literally shut you up because they don’t like to be taken out of their bubble …. It’s frustrating
I am so surprised and glad that the TH-cam algorithm has allowed you to succeed. Watching your channel has really opened my eyes to my subconscious thinking patterns, and the forms of everyday exploitation we defend. I enjoy working in a research lab, the university takes advantage of the researchers and the postdocs, stealing most of the donation & grant money for ‘overhead’, which means that my only option as an undergraduate is to work as an unpaid intern. It sucks, and it’s not the fault of the researchers and postdocs, but also I really enjoy researching & contributing to something important. I get criticized by the people around me for being “too picky” because I “need money” and I should just get a job even if Is “below me”. Getting a paid job means leaving my research, even though money is tight, I get by through financial aid as much I can. I am happy, and I would rather keep researching with people I like being around than leave them to do something I don’t enjoy in order to earn money, which will just be taken back away from me in the form of reduced financial aid. There is nothing wrong with being unemployed in my opinion, not just because it can happen to anyone, but also because it is ok to be unemployed by choice. Desiring to sell your labor for the profit of those above you is not a prerequesite to your worth or validity as a human being or your deserving of social support

Excellent video. Propaganda is a difficult topic to tackle. On one hand, it is used to commit some of the worst offenses to humanity (fascism, capitalism, etc) and yet one must use it effectively to even promote a more hopeful future. As someone who grew up in the 80s, I can attest to the complete fleecing most of the world has endured thanks to neoliberal training. It starts early with the constant question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" - as if that is the only reason you exist. When I went to college, there were still many elements of education that were purely for the sake of learning and it was inspiring. By the 2000s, college was almost completely focused on "career training". Most insidious, has been the systemic control over all of our basic needs, making them so expensive as to put us all into slavery. It is long past time we start uniting as a people and create a better future, lest we all become servants to the worst of us (Bezos, Trump, Musk, Murdock, etc)

I was once in Berlin talking to a guy who grew up in the DDR, his girlfriend who grew up in the FDR, and a guy who grew up in the USA but was an EU citizen (mother Italian).
The DDR guy got very agitated by his memory of not being able to join the pioneers, and why it was so important for him too, because it was used as a punishment in school “you won’t be able to join the pioneers if you act like that.” Etc.
I then said, “we had propaganda too.”
My friend from the USA said, “I never noticed any propaganda while growing up.”
And to the last point I picked up an old DDR newspaper from 1972, and it was fascinating that they reported on labor strikes in West Germany and the USA. While in the USA it is less and less reported, and we have no idea of labor history.
In the USSR during "perestroika", the state propaganda machine literally switched from "we're building communism here" to "okay, now we're tired and deserve a rest: happy capitalism to all, with social guarantees of socialism!" I grew up in the '90s and remember the spirit and imagery of a lot of movies, TV shows and other content at that time: "only the Owner can lead effectively", "If it's not yours, it's nobody's", "If you haven't learned to think differently in new economic circumstances -- it's your own fault for not adapting". And a lot of other stuff like that.
At the same time, religious and generally "metaphysical" beliefs, disseminated through state institutions of education, information, and propaganda, have also become monstrously popular. In the USSR, all television was either informational (propaganda) or educational. Even entertainment products. On extremely popular TV shows devoted to science, they began to talk about "telepathy," "magic" and all that sort of thing, as if it were an actual scientific facts.
And it was all as if under the general motto: "cut the bullshit, NOW we're telling you the truth!"

This is one of the reasons I think some level of rhetoric should be required learning for young students. You can't become immune to propaganda but you can learn to recognize persuasive language and discern intent where it may not be immediately obvious.
One can only find truth in argue.
I find that being opinionated helps if you shift the narrative response propaganda gives you its not hard to resist in the forms it's normally used today, and it's essentially based on the same principals of aversion therapy

I recently found a post in the conservative subreddit, a leftist posted there asking what conservatism can offer the working class, it was very enlightening, much of what the conservative respondents proclaimed are near indistinguishable from what you described in this video as neoliberal propaganda. For as much as conservatives irk me I can't help but pity them after watching this, I get the impression that they fell for this propaganda the hardest and so are convinced that what's not in their best interest is actually good for everyone, I mean it's hard not to feel some sort of pity when you know they're brainwashed.

I have NO idea why the laborer or manufacturer are even taxed when it's the workers that BUILD the biggest chuck of that National GDP. I'm probably quite a bit older than your regular audience, but people who were born in the 50's and who are reasonable and see things as they are, rather than how we're told they are do exist. Your content is impressive, honest, straightforward, accurate and, I strongly believe, vital. However there is little I can contribute because you are so thorough, so I'll stick with things that I know well.

It really is insane how Neoliberal thinking has become the new baseline of reasoning for most people when it comes do anything to do with politics and society. Literally EVERY proposal or idea someone does is immediately followed by the idea/question: "but what will that cost financially?" (often followed by the question if it's economically effective) ....those questions aren't unimportant, but they shouldn't ALWAYS be the first questions that people ask. It really shows how deep the indoctrination goes.

Here's a comment for the algorithm. Let's get this thing up higher on trending! Great discussion on propaganda. As my grandpa used to say, "The only difference between propaganda and advertising is 1 letter and a political opinion." We have so much in our daily life it's no wonder many people have trouble distinguishing it from reality. And kudos to admitting you're biased too. I hate it when people try to claim unbiasedness in politics. There are literally 0 people in the universe who are completely unbiased but the sooner we acknowledge that, the better we can work around it.

Propaganda = public relations
You only really have a problem when you think that you are immune to propaganda. Admitting you have a problem is the first step. When you know you're not immune, you're in a better position to engage in critical thinking about information. People who think they have no biases are so riddled with bias that they're biased about being biased. Same for people who think they're immune to ads. They're so sucked in they don't even realize they're being influenced. The perfect consumer.
I couldn't say it better myself best we can do is try to be as critical as we can and try to fact check to avoid biases

Here in the UK the government is encouraging people to be part of the "gig economy" and become "entrepreneurs".
Yet at the same time they are annihilating all of the benefits of being a small limited company (LLC) and screwing down on any benefits of being Self Employed.
The words say one thing, but the hands do another.
Its most over fixed charges and fixed rate costs.... if you are rich they are nothing.... but for your average person, being a limited liability company now opens you up to a HUGE liability of cost....

BBC is big big propaganda. They manipulate footage and actually change thing drastically. They don't cover some MAJOR world news and they cover up and always have the same commenters. There are some video essays that show examples. BBC seriously sucks.
