Even raised together it’s amazing how the cat’s predatory instincts weren’t triggered. It’s lovely to see these two being very close buddies. My second cat never bothered my rabbit and Guinea pig. He tried to kill his dog sister when I brought her home as a puppy. But they became very close and he got depressed when my dog passed. It took a while before he got over her loss then my cat helped me with the grief. He passed on my lap a year later at 19 years old. They’re both buried side by side in my backyard.

My two cats have their personalities. My girl has the personality of my dog and Manny2 acts just like Manny. Only he like his sister are my first non Siamese. And the cats are very dog like in many ways. In an eerie way they came back to me. Just in different bodies. Every night I begged Manny to send me a cat to love. Two months later I got my two cats. Nothing like help from the other side. My boy plays fetch like a dog. His record is 5 hours straight.
Cats normally avoid Rats as they are too big for them to hunt while Rats can also cause serious wounds with their bite. But yeah they totally shouldn't be left unsupervized
@@holyforce7065 In Germany we have a saying "Ich hab dich zum fressen gern." It means that you really like somebody. So much you would like to eat them. :) And "fressen" is a word that is used to describe animals eating and isn't normally used for humans wich makes it even more fitting here. :)

@@dragulia_venaro not really, both have about the same lifespan if well taken care of. Had a pet rat as a kid that made it to almost 5 and my sister had a mouse that lives a little over 4. And both were considered very old by that time.

A capybara, another type of rodent on the other hand can live 10 -12 years in captivity and so can certain types of rabbits.

Rats are some the most unique pets ive ever owned ! So much personality and they are extremely loving. Only downside is how close you can get to them in a short time with their relatively short lifespan....it was heartbreaking to lose my rat Fin after only 4 years ...i got more time than most bud damn...i miss ya bud
Same here. My little rat only made it 3 years and I loved that critter more than anything. He was so sweet. I will always miss that rodent and will never forget him. It's so hard losing pets. I still cry sometimes when I think about him.
I’m so sorry for both of your losses! Since you have experience with rats, perhaps you can tell me: what was Filya doing every time he went into the cat’s mouth? Was he trying to groom her mouth too or is that kind of how cats will sniff our faces and mouths to see how we are doing?

The only sad thing about this lovely friendship is that the rat's lifespan is of about 4-5 years while the cat's is of 15-20 years. Unfortunately, death is bound to do those two part.
Rats and cats have very similar qualities and behaviors. People who don't think rats or cats are friendly are usually violating the animal's social contract. For instance they both like to smell your hand before you pet them and if they turn away after they do they probably don't want to be pet. They're extremely clean animals and you may have the smell of something however faint on your hands after they've just washed.
Literally proof, it doesn't matter what race you are, it doesn't matter what gender you are, it doesn't even matter what species you are. Friends are friends.
I love this relationship! How wholesome to have two different animals living & loving each other in complete harmony ❤! Humans can learn so much from these two. Thank you for this lesson/story. 😉 🌬💜✌
I saw another odd couple once: it was a black bird and a cat. They were raised around the same time too. But, as it is in this video, they were monitored as well. The bird had a cage too and the cat would come up to the cage in the morning. They would cuddle and play. But the cat was always gentle when playing with the bird. It was a sweet video to see as well.😊

So sweet! ❤. When I was a teen I had a pet white rat named Ben… he lived to the ripe old age of 2 1/2! Which is old for a rat 🐀. He was besties with my small dog… but def arch enemies with our cat! However he loved watching TV! Would lay on my chest or stomach facing the TV. Cartoons and Westerns were his favs! When the horses would run his little whiskers would start twitching like crazy! 😂
Yeah, I had a dog raised with a chick, the chicken grew very fat and they slept, play, ate together, the chicken even ate chicken soup 😅, and look up like a dog not sideways 🥰

We had 2 rats that got along fabulously with our cat, Pumpkin. They loved to snuggle with her. Unfortunately, Oreo and Salty have passed on. Pumpkin now has another cat friend and a puppy buddy to play and cuddle with. ❤

I had a pair like this in college 1994…cat was called Patches, the rat, Thread… they loved each other also
