It should be illegal for a band to be this good!! My god they are incredible! Never seen them live but my sister has seen a lot of huge bands live (her husband is a music producer) and said Toms voice pretty much brought her too tears because of how amazing it was
For the very gifted, there comes a time in a band's progression when they come to a fork in the road; one way is signposted BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD and the other GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD. I think U2 and Coldplay went one way while Radiohead went the other.
I remember being at this show. They were playing a lot of new In Rainbows material a year before the album came out. After they played this, I turned to my friend Steve and was like, "Holy shit, what was that one?" Too bad the album version doesn't quite measure up. Jonny's guitar part is just spot on.
i love this song more than anything. especially this recording. i was there for it. and i just want to listen to it over and over :::does anyone have a recording of this show?
Esta es una de las canciones más bestiales y arrechisimas que Radiohead a creado, 100% seguro que estará junto con Videotape, 15 steps, House of Cards y Down is the new up en el nuevo album, ya quiero que salga ese disco!!!!
Pure sonic beauty. The lyrics both devastate and redeem. The sound soothes and dazzles. Radiohead = five absolute musical geniuses. Thank you, Colin, Jonny, Ed, Phil and Thom!
...but after initially having some of my own issues with both albums I have come to utterly appreciate the entire Radiohead oeuvre as a wonderful and diverse collection of outstanding music. What really gets me about their stuff is the depth of emotion both instrumentally and vocally, and Thom's ability to succinctly and repeatedly capture the zeitgeist of the moment in his lyrics, often with a single line.
Can't really agree with that, both are exceptional brilliant.. for me they complete eachother to 1 amazing album worth waiting 4-5 years for. You really can't get sick of radiohead :)
this version is brilliant. i like the studio version, it echoes atmosphere by joy division but it doesn't compare to this whatsoever, the subtle notes that thom and jonny both play in this make it superb
this song is so beautiful. something about it reminds me of when i was a kid or something. it gives me this weird feeling... like when i would climb the ropes in gym class.j/k
@eyebal Thom doesn't like some of his best songs... He apparently almost disowned "High and Dry". Too much sweetness in the melancholy for his taste? If only he knew how large the song could have been...
Just when we all know it's coming......'The End' - religious or not. We're still going for it anyway, we just don't care, don't want to know, don't even want to think about it. And it WILL come eventually you know, because we're merely a part of nature, too. This whole arrogance of human beings would never be enough to reverse it, only to hasten it maybe.
This is just a nightmare,Soon I'm gonna wake up,Someone's gonna bring me around,Running from the bombers,Hiding in the forest,Running through the field Laying flat on the ground,Just like everybody,Standing overhead,Running from the underground,This is a warning,Four minute warning
This song proves the greatness of radiohead. This song didn't make the album? Is there any other band who would determine that this song isn't strong enough for the cut?
i trust radiohead. After all they are the people who wrote the song. So there must be a reason why they play it live this way, and why they recorded it that way. I'd love to hear and see this one live.
btw that wasnt just a random comparison. someone in the later pages was saying 'the new sail to the moon' which it clearly isnt. sail to the moon is actually INTERESTING.
Since there are many fans who see the In Rainbows CD2 version of this song as one of the best things they've ever done, I think we're discussing personal likings here which are not to be discussed... Anyways...absolutely great song in both versions at least imho.
not exactly sure, i think that maybe the piano is either a piano that can be switched to a piano/strings one, or like you said it is hooked up to an amp w/ a synth.
I think I'll go the opposite. The album version takes the rather standard arrangement of the whole thing and obscures it; leaving only the most important components: like the piano after the chorus, etc.
Well said, and I fully agree. Radiohead played the game well. By refusing to be pigeonholed by constantly changing their sound they ensured that they will have support no matter what style they choose. U2 was bogged down by their political posturing and Edge's 'trademark' (i.e. repeated) reverb guitar. Coldplay became limited in their approach altogether by being consistent (i.e. barely altering their song structures). Long live Radiohead!
I dont want to hear it I dont want to know I just want to run and hide This is just a nightmare Soon I'm gonna wake up Somone is gonna bring me around This is your warning Four minute warning. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_minute_warnin
According to Rolling Stone magazine, apparently people 'lovingly' referred to it as Radiohead's Coldplay song. I always will disagree with that. Coldplay's music is often, solipsistic, where this is a song with tragic lyrics about hypothetically the end of the world with redemption in the music. Lovely song, and since Coldplay in many ways tried to copy Radiohead's sound, to me it's Radiohead's 'Radiohead' song.
thats not the way things work. if you find something boring it means you're harder to stimulate intellectually and therefore more intelligent. and come on, wake up. you have to admit that this song (compared to what we know radiohead are capable of) is half arsed. anyone could have written it. whereas something like down is the new up or sail to the moon is something only radiohead could have done.
Long live Radiohead indeed. I liked Parachutes, and The Joshua Tree is a classic album that still sounds good today, but as both bands tried to capitalise on these launching pads to world domination I became increasingly irked by what I can only describe as 'product' being churned out and heavily promoted by these groups. Contrast this with how Radiohead followed up their landmark album OK Computer with Kid A (and Amnesiac). There's more to this story of course, as Radiohead fans well know...
It should be illegal for a band to be this good!! My god they are incredible! Never seen them live but my sister has seen a lot of huge bands live (her husband is a music producer) and said Toms voice pretty much brought her too tears because of how amazing it was
They are incredible, seen them a few times, cant get enough. Check out Atoms for Peace if you haven't already!
I'd be happy to spend the final 4 minutes of my life listening to this
I love this version so much ♥

super chills the entire song, every time
also, its good to see ed on acoustic. kinda rare
i love this song, wish it was on the album along with bangers and mash, but you cant have everything...
i love this song more than anything. especially this recording. i was there for it. and i just want to listen to it over and over

well it is on the bonus cd :)

i love this song. its so beautiful. i think it will sound much better as a studio recording.
Really great, This and Videotape are my two favorite songs that could possibly be on the next album
Beeeaaauuutifuuul! One of my new faves.
Put that album out boys.
Well, I had a really bad moment in my life, and this song helped me out a lot... now I know that you will wake up no matter what the nightmare is....
just here to show appreciation for the talent, radiohead will forever amaze me
A piano melody that puts an instant smile on your face.
Can't really agree with that, both are exceptional brilliant.. for me they complete eachother to 1 amazing album worth waiting 4-5 years for. You really can't get sick of radiohead :)
simply beautiful
both the live and studio versions of all of their songs are epic you just have to listen to the studio versions on kick ass stereos.
This song is fucking up my world. It's wrecking me and I love every minute of it.
I'm totally agree!!!!!!!!!It's more passionate!!
this version is brilliant. i like the studio version, it echoes atmosphere by joy division but it doesn't compare to this whatsoever, the subtle notes that thom and jonny both play in this make it superb
sounds so much better live than the album version-live version of videotape is much superior
You are my rockstars guys! You don't need to be cooler than you are.
thanks for the advice genius!!
jonny does awesome work on this
My god! I wish to got the chance to see them live n with Florencia beside me always!!! love u Flo!

thanks, I love you too and your mom
oh shit- i always though it was "i dont wanna know"
i wish they had made the studio version this awesome
MASTERPIECE.
This always brings up childhood memories of me being on my bike..
this song is so beautiful. something about it reminds me of when i was a kid or something. it gives me this weird feeling... like when i would climb the ropes in gym class.j/k
@spongey222 Agree. They're not even in the same street. They're not even in the same timezone.
Maybe the best song in "in rainbows".For one moment i thought that it was spacemen 3, the sounds at the bigining. It´s so precious...
"Radioactive fall-out can kill. You cannot see it or feel it, but it is there."
Wow, you are such an existential genius. You should really write a book.
Absolutely stunning song, Thom Yorke is a God!
@eyebal Thom doesn't like some of his best songs... He apparently almost disowned "High and Dry". Too much sweetness in the melancholy for his taste? If only he knew how large the song could have been...
I think this is the one song where I'll have to play the "old version is better" card.
Fabulous!
Just when we all know it's coming......'The End' - religious or not.
We're still going for it anyway, we just don't care, don't want to know, don't even want to think about it.

Yes.
This is just a nightmare,Soon I'm gonna wake up,Someone's gonna bring me around,Running from the bombers,Hiding in the forest,Running through the field
Laying flat on the ground,Just like everybody,Standing overhead,Running from the underground,This is a warning,Four minute warning
Can somebody post the mp3?
This song proves the greatness of radiohead.

good music ..
great song. so simple.
love jonny's guitar part in this
btw that wasnt just a random comparison. someone in the later pages was saying 'the new sail to the moon' which it clearly isnt. sail to the moon is actually INTERESTING.
yes it is
Same also goes for Nude if you compare it to the version on the Meeting People is easy documentary.
No one in the world could get away with the different-lengthed sleeves except for Jonny.
class.i think this song n videotape sound much better live than studio version
Is this song going to be a part of Radiohead's upcoming album? I really hope so! It's such a great tune!!
Jon's guitar perfectly fits..
yes it is X infinite & beyond
Since there are many fans who see the In Rainbows CD2 version of this song as one of the best things they've ever done, I think we're discussing personal likings here which are not to be discussed...
Anyways...absolutely great song in both versions at least imho.
not exactly sure, i think that maybe the piano is either a piano that can be switched to a piano/strings one, or like you said it is hooked up to an amp w/ a synth.
it's thom... his piano is playing both synth and piano
Exactly what I was thinking: "...This is for the price you paid..."
I think I'll go the opposite. The album version takes the rather standard arrangement of the whole thing and obscures it; leaving only the most important components: like the piano after the chorus, etc.
This song made me think about the kids who lives in the shadow of the adults's stupid wars...
Krankzinnig goed!!!!!!!
i wish i was there so bad

i think the sleeve's cut so it doesnt get in the way while hes playin
correction. why don't WE cover it?
this song needs heavier drums.
Sometimes it is just best to "run and hide."
im surprised they performed this however it sounds great.
lucky guy !
I have to say I like both versions of Nude, but have a soft spot for the MPIE version. Jonny on glock and organ is just so corny and wonderful.
the song is called "4 minute warning" but are @2:58 minutes of happiness for me......
no kidding. just one dude trying to have his input, another guy completely shutting him down, then the sad surrender...
I dont want to hear it
I dont want to know
I just want to run and hide
This is just a nightmare
Soon I'm gonna wake up
Somone is gonna bring me around
This is your warning
Four minute warning.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_minute_warnin
Personally, I liked the live version(s) of Bodysnatchers better. Don't get me wrong,
it on the new cd isnt it? the 2nd disc
oh shit - I always thought it was "This is just not me"
@plist219 How is it called?
Jonny's part sounds way more britpopish in this version. Album version wins
Soon im gonna wake up..
the new sail to the moon?
I had to pay 120 dollars and nearly get into a fist fight with a scalper to be here in the tenth row. Quite a bit more to the right side of the stage.
I am on the verge of getting divorced with my wife.
And this song means so much...
too bad the album is delayed till 08, fuzz!
According to Rolling Stone magazine, apparently people 'lovingly' referred to it as Radiohead's Coldplay song. I always will disagree with that. Damn i love this song! it gets me off!

I can remember where I read it, but the band sees this as B-side material. Alittle to likeable.

In Rainbow!!!
@kiwidavid72 U2 and Coldplay have nothing on these guys
unfortunately the bonus CD was about a million times better than the actual album
like videotape i much prefare the live verison than in rainbows version
Well I waited 4 min. and nothing happened OMG
You're welcome. Though you need not thank me at all. I simply state my opinion. Nevertheless, cheers!
