Wow I remember ever single thing ! I drove the same route 1000’s of times . In 1988 I graduated from PMSS . I worked at the Chevron in 1987 . It was owned by Bob Pernoski . Such great memories
So crazy to see how places like Dino's, the Port Moody Inn, and the plant shop and bowling alley are gone, but the St. Johns and Moody street strip mall remain basically the same aha! Love this video! Hope I can find some more.
wow... this is absolutely incredible. I remember when they developed New Port I was so excited because I didn't know what it would bring... this is really a little piece of history, and it's beautiful. I'd forgotten how beautiful Pomo used to be...
I just want to say I am impressed that someone had the prescience to preserve 1988 Port Moody in video form, especially before the motel burned down. I was around five years old at this time and remember much of it, the Casey Jones sign at 5:57. I guess the only question I have is what business was there were the Subway is now at 6:40 because I just can't remember.
My first drive on the IOCO road was in 1977 on a school bus field trip to tour the new BC Hydro Power Generation plant. It seemed more remote looking then! This presentation is 'priceless'. 6:58 Gas at 45.9/liter with industry trades rate about $25/hr then; say $40 now means gas should be about 74.9/liter today...comparatively!
Awesome. Looks so beautiful with the trees and how easy it is to see Heritage mountain from St.Johns . Hard to imagine trees where buildings are. Wish it went a little further onto Barnet highway.
I'm 20 (born in 2004), I've lived in Pomo my whole life and its so interesting to see how much less stuff there was in the 80s. 80s were still cooler anyway!
Not only do I get to see what Port Moody looked like when I was 4 or 5 years old, but this video is responsible for me hearing Dirty Water by Rock & Hyde.
Hello Roger, I'm amazed by the beauty of Ioco Rd. Your video captures it perfectly! Would you mind if I shared it on my Instagram? Of course, I'll credit you. I want to showcase the charm of Port Moody and highlight its evolution with the new city plan. Looking forward to your response!
i love everything about this but especially the ads on the radio. wish we still had a bowling alley, theres nothing for youth to do around here anymore but get drunk
I graduated from Centennial sr in 88 then moved away. I finally got back there in 2019 and this once beautiful place is nothing but beige condos and third world invaders, it doesn't matter where you go now it's all just Canadastan! I will NEVER call myself Canadian ever again after this heartbreaking experience!
@@stuartkemp4747 Really. That would have been late '80s? That must have been shitty. The last time I was there was in 1987 when I watched Rick Hansen wheel by during his Man in Motion tour. He was on the home stretch and coming in from PoCo, Pitt Meadows, etc. I watched him from a room on the second floor. Then he turned left and went up Thermal Drive. Man, the times I had there. Was the bar, lounge or nightclub operating at that time?
@@Mo_Taser it was April 1990. Chunky Jeff Shyluk Cabaret mgr Sean Erdman Hotel Security and myself were last ones at hotel. It happened about 330am thankfully no one was in Cabaret or could have been worse.
@@stuartkemp4747 Who was the owner then? When I was there it was Gord Sloane. His sons, Mitch (RIP) and Rick also worked there. Dave LeRoux was the manager. But this was back in the late 70s early 80s.
The last few summers have had less than 10 days of rain (each year), and beautiful sunshine most all of the time, as well as other times throughout MY life!!!!!!!!!!! Where do these IGNORANT and False rumors start and come from......please elaborate??!!! We have one of the nicest weather in non tropical areas as any, and no hurricanes or monsoons by the way!!!!!!!!!!
changed a bit since then - I went to that Bob Dylan concert mentioned on CFMI, Tracey Chapman was great Dylan was awful. One of my first dates with my g/f and eventual mother of my children.
reminds me of my dad's F250 interior. No arrogant drivers in big shot cars today ( our society today makes me sick!) 45.9 @chevron those prices will never come back!😞
I just finished my last year of of high school at Port Moody High School, last year. Dang, I miss this place, all the memories...

My eyes didn't focus clearly for a second, and I thought you said- {I'd forgotten how beautiful "Porno" used to be...}....and then I saw the "m" lol
Hey Look, My house (or garage at least) - and it looked like Mr. Ward was getting into his car.
Thanks for the post.
I used to go Left up April Road from there. Good old McNair Bay!!!

Had some good times in Ioco back then.
Fascinating. So recognizable yet so much has changed. LOL water beds and .45/l for gas!
Wow this so cool to see what it look like
So much trees
Sorry about the camera control and zooming, this was one of my early attempts with a camcorder.

Was a way better town back then. That is the way I remember it. Sucks to see what they have done to it.
Port Moody sucks now

That's me at the bus stop
WOW!!!! I wasn't even a year old then and was just off of thermal.
I was not born at that time and I’m so surprised what my house and Port Moody looked like back then no tall buildings and idk I’m overall shocked
I just wish a similar video had been done of Pinetree Way in Coquitlam way back in 1988.
😎 🆒
The Port Moody Inn. Damn. I used to work there, drink there, met my first serious girlfriend there.
I worked at the desk the night of the fire.

Was that dude or a chick driving?
Port Moody looks similar today
Disagree.. looks very different especially with all the new buildings in new port that dont exist here.
@@riotctrl yes all that is different, but ST Johns looked similar apart from a few new buildings.
