SPEARFISHING THE WORLD'S SMALLEST MAHI MAHI

  • If you’re interested in learning more about freediving, I recommend taking a freediving course. But in the meantime, you can read this book about humans’ natural ability to dive deep, how freediving was used in the past and how it is used today:
    amzn.to/2Yrzzrg
If you want to learn more about spearfishing, I recommend learning about freediving first. After that, you should read this book by Terry Maas, an OG spearfisherman. It will inspire you to explore to world and search for big fish:
    amzn.to/3hrtnbi
This next book is about how being in and around water is scientifically proven to improve your mental and physical health, creativity, and even improve your hearing and eyesight:
    amzn.to/3hqJOoz
Another great freediving book is Oxygen, by William Trubridge. Trubridge is the deepest “no fins” diver in the world, able to travel to 334 feet (102 meters) and back on one breath (without fins). Oxygen tells about his journey from a beginner freediver, blacking out on a 30-something meter dive (relatively shallow for a freediver) to becoming the deepest in the world:
    amzn.to/2UDC6NU
The last book I’d recommend is One Breath. It tells the tragic story of an American freediving champion who pushed past his comfort zone one too many times. It is a great resource for learning about the dangers of diving unsafely, but this book actually made me feel a lot safer about freediving - because the things that went wrong in this unfortunate story are very easily avoidable:
    amzn.to/37pgE4q
I use this awesome giant plastic case to protect my spearfishing/freediving gear while traveling (it's also good for skis and that sort of thing) :
    amzn.to/2BZK8tX
Gopros are only rated to take to -30 feet (-10 meters) so you need to put it in a plastic case to protect it when going deeper. A plastic case also stops the water from messing with the touch screen. This is the one I use and I’m very happy with it:
    amzn.to/2C5mcpe
These are the carbon fiber fins I use:
    amzn.to/3e3uFHI
This is my freediving watch (great value, IMO):
    amzn.to/3fo0GKQ
I use this rashguard when I’m in warm water and don’t need extra warmth but still want a chest loading pad for my gun:
    amzn.to/2YBS2kU
Filmed in Amed, Bali, Indonesia. In this movie I retell the story of when I spearfished my first Mahi Mahi a few weeks ago. Enjoy.

I fish in the amazon river (im brazilian) and we fish big cat fish with arpoons or spears, my friends only goes to the bigger ones (1,3m~1,5m) but i always catch the 1m or 90cm fish 😅
I actually get more fish than most of them bcs i get tired after spearing 3 or 5 medium ones and they almost everytime get tired in the first or second one 😂
To me the most fun to catch is the pirarara (red fin catfish Aka man eater) they can grow up to 2m but i aways catch between 1,3m~1,7m, its the only big fish that i have pleasure to catch, but i fear one day being eaten alive (they are big enouth to eat a medium size man like me (1,7m)

Ceviche is sooo good good my grandma makes it sometimes
Basically she slices up some fish (tilapia) and adds lemon juice. Then, she dices up some tomatoe, onion, carrots, and jalapeños. Then, you let it sit in the fridge for a few hours so the lemon juice can cook the fish.

Loving the video and your ethics. I’ve spearfished for 15 years now in England. Spear fishing is the most sustainable method of fishing but yet in England we are criticized. We shoot what we eat and if everyone shot their own fish there wouldn’t be an obesity problem lol. Also you can’t put a tape measure next to a fish before you shoot it. It looked like a good mahi mahi to me mate.

All the other predators of the animal kingdom, catches, the youngers, the smallers and the weakers, but our regulations of non comercial hunting are made to kill the most adapted ones, suposily to protect the ecosystem. What is the best option, hunt 3 young fishes which no one knows if are capable to reach reprodutive age, our one grown up, well adapted to escape the predation of the other predators not humans (we are op tier predators). Like the uncivilized people, who prefer to save an old person instead of a child, because all the wisdom and knowlegement that can be lost, if a child survives one day they never know if is strong enought to survive the next day.
